Back before I started running I did Zumba for cardio. Good stuff, but it's been several years. I needed, and had yet to do, cardio today, so as a quickie, I pulled up an old class.

Talk about an entirely different experience than running! Let's just say my performance lacked my usual verve. I lay on the floor after for ten minutes, and that was after the cool down.

I think maybe that needs to be added back into the rotation.

Oh, man. 🤣

I had a few things I intended to do this evening, however, as my legs are shaky and I've loose all motivation to exert myself, it looks like a movie instead.

Bram Stocker's Dracula (1999).

It's just been brought to my attention that it's an autumn movie. :p

It was! The attire felt autumnal, in large part. Much windiness, too, which I aways associate with Halloween and fall. The gothic nature of the filming, lighting, music, all imparted the visual and auditory feel of excitement I get from that time of year.

Honestly, now I'm wondering how it never came to my attention before. 😂

Received a present in the mail today.

I have a penchant for small boxes and fiddly antiques. This was a hand-tooled domino set from 1910, made of ebony and ivory and little brass pins. Lovely.

These small things from the past give me joy, but it's always dimmed a little when they've been created with something no longer used today for ethical reasons. I'm never quite sure to react. Surely it's not right to dispose of such, yet my pleasure has a guilty edge from the knowledge.

Would you rather have such items from 114 years ago simply collected en mass and destroyed ?? NO !!! If such an item was just made this year, then let the guilty edge in the door. How many great pieces of art (be it paintings, statues, or architecture) have been destroyed by changes in attitudes, politics, or religion in the past 500 years? Far too many. 😢

Lake of Darkness, by Adam Roberts.

Space. hard Science, serial killer, black hole. What's not to like? I got all excited. *excited bounce*

Then I realized it's grimdark. 😳

Uhm, no.

I need to be feeling wildly safe secure to read grimdark. Maybe next century. :p

Grimdark ? Enney, you continue to broaden my horizons . . . but after reading the following descriptions, think I'll pass.

Grimdark stories often feature: (all of which I can find too often in real life today)

- Characters who behave in morally bad ways

- A lack of moral absolutes

- A gritty semblance of reality

- Power-hungry characters

- A blurred line between heroes and villains

- Dystopian or alternate worlds

Grimdark stories can explore philosophical questions such as:
  • Do good ends justify cruel means?
  • Should we feel obligated to do the right thing even when it's suicidal?
  • Can any person be trusted with absolute power?

Grimdark ? Enney, you continue to broaden my horizons . . . but after reading the following descriptions, think I'll pass.
It is not for the faint of heart, anyone with a tendency towards depression, or those who wish to retain a glimmer of hope in the goodness of humanity. 🤣

One of the weight class instructors uses a term that cracks me up.

Muscular Intensity.

With hard hits on all the syllables. 🤣

It just never gets old. 💁‍♀️

Delivery expected. In my scramble to pack and get out of the house for Thanksgiving, I forgot to leave the gate open. By the time I realized, it was dark. Cloudy, so no moon kind of dark. Peachy.

It's been unseasonably warm, so snakes are not out of the question. Naturally I have less than zero idea where a flashlight might be hiding. Naturally this means I must sprint to the gate.

This logic is two-fold.
1) Running creates more vibration. Any snakes might hear and get out of the way.
2) . . . . I no longer remember this point. 😂

The downside is that it's daaaaaaaaaark. Like, I can't see the ground dark. Not being the most graceful gazelle in the herd, lack of visual is a hazard.

*zoom*

Gate in record time. As I struggle with lock and key I hear this . . . noise. Like something is breathing. 😳

*freezes in place*

Heavier, breathy breathing, and . . . could that be snuffling? Could it be? No, surely not. Not a feral pig. Those things are dangerous! I still can't see anything, but whatever it is it's close.

At this point my adrenaline is in overdrive. I am about to break the land speed record sprinting back to the farmhouse. Before I can pivot, a gusty breath lightly caresses my right ear. I am in the midst of my third heart attack when it occurs - feral pigs aren't that tall.

IT WAS A COW

A rogue cow, mind. One of those wily creatures who slip their confines and wander the countryside terrorizing the innocent.

I called the police. (Because as far as I know there is no Lost Cow Department. 🤷‍♀️)

Moral to this story.

KNOW WHERE YOUR FLASHLIGHTS ARE

*thunk*

Today's random observation:

I don't think about feet. Look at feet. Even consider feet, really, as I go about my daily business. But. It seems that when a situation arises where I have to read articles that might feature pictures of feet, like, idk, reviews on no-show socks for flats . . . .

Turns out I have opinions about feet.

There is such a thing as foot models.

All I'm saying.

Also sayin, while I adore that I can do most of my Holiday shopping whilst parked on my fanny at home, it is ah-mazing how much money I can spend parked on said fanny. 🤣

Given those propensities, be sure to include in your workouts an exercise to preserve, protect, and promote their use . . . (y)
