Fall of an Empire

Gurgon squawked as Folknar barreled towards him. He leapt through the wall and yanked out his sword, waving it desperately in the fighter's direction as he looked up and down the street for help. But the only one visible was a lone thug who had managed to escape out the door and was high-tailing it down the street. Gurgon looked back at Folknar and said, "Hey hey now! Okay, you made your point! I made a mistake, why don't we just let this slide and I won' bother you again, okay? Jus' lemme go and, and, um I..I sure learned my lesson, okay?" He edged away from Folknar, preparing to make a break and run.

The hooded figure watched the fight not really interested in joining however she did slam one guys head into the wall who had tried to bother her. She sipped her drink quietly taking in every face particularily the man who called himself Emperor of Taros. He looked somewhat familiar but she couldn't place where she had seen him before. Frowning she continued to watch him.

Folknar

Stepping forward Folknar knocked the sword from Gurgon's hand and flung him against the wall in the alley. Placing his hand blade against his throat Folknar waited for the others to come out of the bar. When the hooded figure stepped out of the house Folknar said "I'm sorry your rest was disturbed citizen. This little problem will be solved soon enough." Turning back to Gurgon he said "And you, well I can think of several things to do with you, but I think I'll let the Lady you were distrubing come up with half of your punishment and Bolbar gets to choose the other half of it. Hows that for justice?" he grinned evily...

Bolbar

Bolbar spun around, looking for more prey. He registered movement near him, and advanced with his mace ready. The figure backed away non-threateningly, and he slowed and then stopped. He stood panting, his awareness slowly flowing back into control of his body. He realized that a voice had been speaking for some time. "Easy, big guy. It's over, we're your friends."

Gurgon's eyes showed desperation. "Aw no, don' let that big guy loose on me. We was only kiddin', we do it all the time, just a buncha kidders. Hey fella," he said to the blue-robed man, "you've seen us around, you know we was just kiddin', right?" He gasped as Folknar's sword pressed harder against his neck. "Okay, yeah, things got outta hand. You whipped us, whipped us real good. You want me to leave town? No problem man, I'm gone...urk...hey come on, it's just a bar fight, you won, you guys are okay. Okay?"

Lokken heard that last word. Okay. He kicked away another section of wall, and advanced toward this Gurgon. His sword leaked blood. He stopped in front of Gurgon. "Do you know who I am? I am Lokken, Emperor of Taros. I travel dimensions, scumball. And I kill things so terrifying they would make you pee in your breeches if they so much as breathed. I'm having a bad day, because my sorceror dropped me 20 feet when I came here. On top of that, I get to fight you shits when I do get here. You want to run those last words by me again? Okay? You think we're okay? I will, if the winners don't kill you first, send you to the Horror realm. Yes, their king owes me a few hundred favors", he stated angrily. This was his worst mood, and all of the people of Taros knew that you did not anger him even more when he was like this.

Krista

Krista came to stand beside the Dark lord.
"My Lord, I am sure this man ment me no disrespect, and if he had offended me, i could have handeled it myself, though i do appreciate your galentry. I am Krista, youngest daughter of the king of the minor realm of Glemere. If you were to punish this man my lord over an offence commit against me, and i press no charge, then surely the punishment would be unjust. If you were to release him into my custody, i will be sure to see that he makes amends for any insult he may have issued later in the evening."

She kept her face calm, nad her smile warm. She knew nothing of the man she was trying to save, but she didn't think he should die for being a little to amourios and fiesty toward a woman in a tavern.

"come.Let's leave these incompetant fools to the fate they choose. For they will fight with someone who won't be as merciful as you" Said silverwolf as he stared into the mans eyes. "Come lets go have a drink" He said to falkner.

The figure watched the Emperor of Taros quietly wondering why he seemed so familiar. Shrugged she pushed that aside and stood up, it was time to leave. She walked towards the tavern door when she heard him call himself Lokken. Looking once more at him she felt that same sense of recognition. Angry with herself she just shook her head murmured something then headed once more towards the door.

Bolbar

Bolbar looked around at the wreckage of the tavern. Roscoe was still cowering behind the bar, and the rest of the people were filtering outside. He was suddenly hungry, but stepped outside anyway. He looked oddly at the fighter who was angrily examining his cape. An emperor?

The hooded figure from the corner was passing him, looking with a strange expression at the same man. Bolbar saw it was a woman. Curiosity overcame shyness, and he asked her, "Uh, is that a real emperor?"

Folknar

Stepping away from Gurgon and putting his sword at his side Folknar looked at those around him. Turning to the Lady Krista he bowed and said "My Lady, for you I shall do such a thing, this man is free to go and do as he pleases since you have called for his release. Never let it be said that I am an unjust man to refuse a Lady anything." Straightening up he looked at those around and said "I think all of us could use a drink right now to calm down a little bit. Would you all care too join me for a small drink at another place? Perhaps we all have something in common."

Nodding to Gurgon who was sitting on the alley floor crying he headed up the street motioning the others too follow.

"Yes. Good idea", said Lokken. He took out a cloth and wiped his sword on it, then stuck the sword into it's sheath. The cloth went into a small pouch, which in turn he threw into a small portal he opened up. He began to walk towards a bar. He did indeed need a drink, as he had just payed his 14th visit to the realm of Horror. Damn, he would never and could never be happy to go to that place.

Krista watch the two lords, Lokken and Falknar with a curious eye, holding out her hand to Gurgon and helping him to his feet.

"Somehow my foolish goon, i think you pissed off the wrong people"

She looked over the vertualy destroyed tavern, and felt badly for the barkeep. In a way, she was responsible, she should have dalt with these men sooner and not let it come to this. But then, men rarely needed an excuse to fight. When she had more funds, she would return to make restitution, but for now she wanted to learn more about these two strange lords.

"Ya think?" muttered Gurgon as he shakily dusted himself off. "Hey, uh, you know... thanks. I mean for, uh, not lettin'em kill me and all." He started sidling away, swinging wide around Bolbar. "I'll just be...going...this way." He gave a quick wave goodbye and started at a fast walk down the street, glancing back over his shoulder several times until he reached the intersection. He looked around as if unsure where to go, then waved once more at Krista and briskly trotted around the corner.

Walks with falkner."Who were those goons?" he asked falkner
"and why are you here?"

Folknar

Looking at the figure striding next too him Folknar replied. "I don't really know who those goons were, other than they were harrasing my new friend here (points to Bolbar) and giving him a hard time for something he had nothing to do with." Turning the corner they come to an Inn with a tavern attached to it. "Let me invite you all to a drink and a meal on me my friends." Folknar said as he held the door for the Lady Krista.

Walking inside the group was lead to a large table near the back by the barmaid. Sitting down Folknar looked at the whole group and spoke again. "Some of you know who I am, and in reply to question as too why I am here, I shall do my best to answer them." Taking a sip from his mug of ale just placed in front of him he begins...

"My name is Folknar, as some of you know. I was a Ranger of the King's for many years, after leaving the service this past winter I decided to look for my fortune among the adventurers. The reason for this is that my father who had once held lands and titles of a Baron was killed in the Battle of the Barren Hills trying to save King Elthric. He died before I was 9 years old, and the other Barons at that time banded together and took my lands. My mother escaped with me to her brother in laws manor. I was raised there and became a Ranger because I love the woods. But beyond that I seek good companions for adventure and gold. What about you?" he asked as he looked at Randel.

Bolbar

Bolbar glared at Gugnor as he edged by him and grunted in disdain as he ran out of sight. Then his head whipped around as he heard Folknar say "...a meal on me..." He followed as they headed for the other inn. He knew nothing about these people other than Folknar had been nice and they all had fought pretty good. But sharing the line of fire has a bonding effect. Bolbar hadn't been part of any group for a long time and he began to remember what a good feeling it was.

In the bar he sat and nursed his ale (real, not the watered swill from Roscoe's) and listened as Folknar spoke. Adventure and gold! How long had it been since he last thought seriously about that?

The figure did not answer the question she perfered not to speak with anyone. She was about to walk out the door when she stopped, she thought for a moment then decided to stay a bit longer. Things were getting quite interesting in here and She wanted to know why Lokken seemed so damn familiar!

Krista

Krista took a seat beside Folknar. She had no real interest in his offered meal, or his wine, but she did what to see what could be learned here. Knowlage was power, and survival depended on it.

Randel looked at everyone at the table and decided that it was alright for him to sit with them. He took a seat at the table and looked at everyone with a smile, wondering what they were thinking.

"Where do you plan on going from here?"he asked falkner "For i will go with you if it isn't somewhere i've already been. For by going with a ranger i may learn more about the magic of the woods" Sit down across from falkner.

The Plan

Folknar eyed the group then decided to trust them with this information.

"Several hundred leagues to the north east of here is a range of moutains known as the Skulls. Deep in this area lies the ruins of a fortress once held by the great dwarven king Steelhelm who controlled the moutains and all the gold and jewels held in them. During the second Goblin War the fortress was destroyed but not before the dwarves had hidden the entire fortune of theirs somewhere in the tunnels and dungeons of the fort. I was hoping to find several brave souls to come with me and search the fort because I have the one piece of information to retrieve it. The dwarves had hidden a book somewhere in the king's great hall telling how to find the treasure, and I know where the book is...."
