Favorite movie quotes

“A group of terrorists decided to send a little care package, box of goodies, which had to be defused before blowing up the office… [twangs guitar] so I took the rest of the day off. I tell you, this world is being fed-exed to hell in a handcart. I honestly believe anyone thinking about having a child right now is coldly considering an act of cruelty. Enough about my day. What’s your news?”

“I’m pregnant.”

- The Rock.

Not a movie, but the Deadwood TV series.

Wild Bill Hickok: Some goddamn time, a man's due to stop arguing with hisself, feeling twice the goddamn fool he knows he is because he can't be something he tries to be every goddamn day without once getting to dinnertime and not fuckin' it up. I don't want to fight it no more. Understand me, Charlie? And I don't want you pissing in my ear about it. Can you let me go to hell the way I want to?

One of the best military scenes I've ever watched was from "Saving Private Ryan", an exchange between Captain Miller and one of his Rangers. It's all about griping. Anyone who has served in the military knows that griping is a time-honored tradition. It never cures anything griped about, but it damn sure makes the gripees feel better about getting it out of their craw and it serves to draw a team closer together. The Captain's response to Reiben is a perfect example of a great leader, make a point but keep it light.

“I don’t gripe to you, Reiben,” Miller explains. “I’m a captain. There’s a chain of command. Gripes go up, not down. Always up. You gripe to me. I gripe to my superior officer, so on, so on, and so on. I don’t gripe to you. I don’t gripe in front of you. You should know that, as a Ranger.”

Reiben asks: “Say you aren’t a captain, or I’m a major. What would you say then?”

Captain Miller replies: "Well, in that case, I’d say this is an excellent mission, sir, with an extremely valuable objective, sir, worthy of my best efforts, sir. Moreover, I feel heartfelt sorrow for the mother of Pvt. James Ryan. And I’m willing to lay down my life and the lives of my men — especially you, Reiben — to ease her suffering.”

“I need to lie down. You need to lie on top of me and do more furious jumping.”

“Let us rub each other’s genital areas.”

“Why do people not do this all the time?”

- Poor Things.

“Maybe she was right, and maybe Christmas comes in July. But I didn’t believe it.” Dead Reckoning

Hard to beat the script for Outlaw Josie Wales. Especially Chief Dan George as Lone Watie. This is my all time favorite.

Lone Watie : We thought about it for a long time, "Endeavor to persevere." And when we had thought about it long enough, we declared war on the Union.

“… this is an act of lunacy… personally, I think you’re a fucking idiot.”
“Oscar Wilde said “patriotism” is the virtue of the vicious…”
Gets hit in the back of head and falls to his knees.
Getting back on his feet.
“Thank you for making my point.”

And one of the greats.

Looks disdainfully down at Mr White.
“The name’s Bond… James Bond.”

Not from a movie, but an interesting fact about who Ian Flemming modeled the physical appearance of Bond, James Bond on.

Physically, Bond resembles the composer, singer, and actor Hoagy Carmichael.

In Casino Royale, Vesper Lynd remarks, "Bond reminds me rather of Hoagy Carmichael, but there is something cold and ruthless."

Of course, this line wasn't used in either film as Hoagy Carmichael wasn't relevant to modern moviegoers.

In the books, Bond is described as being approximately 6ft, 167 lbs, with a slim build, tanned skin, cold blue-grey eyes, and a slightly cruel twist to his mouth.

"Why can't you just be a good boy and die?" This is from Goldeneye, and I believe it was said by Alec Trevelyan.

And to close the loop, Hoagy Carmichael appeared in To Have and Have Not, referenced on the previous page.

Forgive me for not trudging through this entire thread to see if this has already been mentioned. Even if it has, I think it bears repeating.

In Bob Fosse's self-biopic, All That Jazz, Joe Gideon (played by Roy Scheider) says this to his girlfriend (played by Ann Reinking):

"How dare you sit there and use my phone to call someone who isn't gay."

One thing's sure: Inspector Clay is dead — murdered — and somebody's responsible!

In a way, all of us has an El Guapo to face. For some, shyness might be their El Guapo. For others, a lack of education might be their El Guapo. For us, El Guapo is a big, dangerous man who wants to kill us. But as sure as my name is Lucky Day, the people of Santa Poco can conquer their own personal El Guapo, who also happens to be *the actual* El Guapo!
