Favorite video game quotes

Anyone here played Spec Ops: The Line? It's a third person shooter with heavy psychological themes inspired partly by Heart of Darkness / Apocalypse Now, where player is in charge of a Delta Force team looking for a US Army Colonel and his troops in a post-disaster Dubai, where you start out thinking the mission is a morally correct and a simple rescue. At the very beginning the player's character says to his squad, "Gentlemen, welcome to Dubai."

The game play is fun and you're taking out bad guys who are actively shooting at you, and the loading screens between missions display quotes such as "To kill for yourself is murder. To Kill for your government is heroic. To kill for entertainment is harmless." and "Do you feel like a hero yet?"

But soon you're having to make ethically questionable decisions and you fight the soldiers you were sent to rescue, and civilians are increasingly caught in the cross fire. As the game proceeds the loading screens increasingly contain statements like, "Cognitive dissonance is an uncomfortable feeling caused by holding two conflicting ideas simultaneously." "If you were a better person, you wouldn't be here." "There is no escape."

If you make certain decisions, at the end your own army comes to arrest your crazy delusional murderous character. And if you choose to resist them and succeed in taking out their unit, your character taunts the troops over the radio with the words he spoke to his now dead squad at the beginning: "Gentlemen, welcome to Dubai."

On another note, the Red Dead Redemption series has many memorable moments and quotes, but one of the most entertaining parts of Red Dead Redemption 2 is hanging out and interacting with your Van der Linde gang-mates, like sitting around the camp fire singing dirty songs. Like this one...
When I was just a lad, you know
I met a gal from ole' Bordeaux
She had blonde hair, and blue eyes too
She let me ride on the ring dang doo
The ring dang doo, now what is that?
It's soft and round, like a pussycat
Got a hole in the middle, and it's split in two
And that's what ya call the ring dang doo

My favorite line from a video game isn’t even scripted dialogue, it’s just a throwaway ad lib taunt. Here’s Nolan North, the voice of Nathan Drake, explaining how his 8-year-old son inspired him to put “kitty got wet” into Uncharted 3:

“No shirt can contain the awesomeness that is Cthulhu!”

“I killed them… I’m a murderer…”
“Uh, no, you’re not, they’re still alive. They’re hurt bad and crawling away bleeding.”
“Oh? In that case… take that, you punks!”

- Cthulhu Saves the World.

Technically it's just an Al Capone quote, but having it read in the voice of Leonard Nimoy really sells it...

"You get more of what you want with a kind word and a gun than you do with just a kind word."

“I’m Frankie ‘The Bat’ Niagara.”

“‘Niagara’? As in you cry a lot?”

He had a baseball bat and I was tied to a chair. Pissing him off was the smart thing to do.

- Max Payne.

Beautiful Queen- “Whom do you serve?”

Conan- “Conan serves no man.”

Queen- “Would you serve a woman?”

Conan- [eyes Queen up and down] “I would service her gladly, yes.”

- Conan PS2

I don’t have any quotes from the game, but I highly recommend Dave the Diver. It’s mostly funny, but to a of its humor is presented through visuals rather than text. There are bits I’ve laughed harder at than any other game I can remember: the weeaboo gunsmith, the fish looking on in horror as the sushi chef sharpens his knives, and so many more bits. Fun gameplay loop, too, with one and done mini games tossed in throughout. Absolute steal for its price.

Harlequin: It's a series of conspiracies, conflicting agendas and petty jealousies, all building upon, feeding upon, and excreting into an unending web of drek that people wade through every day and call it Life. If there was one Dark Lord controlling everything and we could drive a magic sword through his heart to free the world, that would be grand. Such clarity! Such focus! Alas. - Shadowrun Returns

Did you hear Sora? I tried my best! 🥰

A recent one, so spoilers for Alan Wake II.

"It's not a loop, it's a spiral." Also, "In a horror story, there are only victims and monsters. The trick is not to end up as either." And randomly, "Okay, witch. I brought you the heart. Now show me the terror."

Nenio- “I am gathering data on the most promiscuous people in the multiverse. Queen of Succubi, how many sexual partners have you had?”

Nocticula- “It’s about quality, not quantity.”

- Pathfinder WotR

"Show me someone for whom friendship means lack of love, and I'll show you someone who wonders why their lovers never end up being worth their time."

- Mimir, God of War: Ragnarok Valhalla DLC.

On Mass Effect 3, Javik is the whole survivor of a race that once covered the entire galaxy, but was wiped out by the same threat you face now. He survived by being put into stasis and hidden away for 50k years.

He is a brutal companion willing to dirty his hands and reach every low if it gives him an advantage over your enemies. When you call him out on his morals, he says the following:

“Stand in the ashes of a trillion dead souls and ask the ghosts if honor matters. The silence is your answer.”

Qum: Cumdump's real name is Qum D'umpe!
Simon: [frustrated/disappointed] ...I really hope you're just fucking with me.
Qum: Nope! That's what Cumdump wants to do, but you keep refusing!

- The Last Sovereign.

“I wish only to hear your words, know your thoughts, share your feelings. May we please be friends?”

— Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker
