Favorites Lists

sr, you'd have to be insane to bother. If that comment was aimed at me, I don't go looking for myself, I'm looking for something decent to read, so seek out those favoured by people I have found similar interests with here.

DP, Magica, the "user deleted" is mostly likely DanielleKitten from when she pulled her stories and had her membership deleted back in January, though there are a couple of ex-AHers that have done the same, so it could be one of them too.

Ah, no, the comment wasn't "aimed" at you, starrkers (although I bet you're a little taken aback by the response to your original posting). It just occurred to me in reading the banter on the threat that some seem to check on who has them on their favorite lists. I can see the curiosity that would lead someone to check that (although what you would actually do with the information is a bit beyond me)--it just never had occurred to me to do so. And I said so. Just chatting--like everyone else. :)

(although I bet you're a little taken aback by the response to your original posting).
The thread took an interesting turn at bluebell's post, urging people to make use of the feature.

Before that, it was all pretty much as expected.

Yeah, surprised me too. I don't see the harm in folks having their own stories as favorites, though--seems pretty healthy behavior for a writer trying to take her/himself seriously. I really do try to work up a story that would be a favorite of mine--at least at the time I was working it up.

I do hope nothing hateful was read into my first post. I was mostly thinking of how I view my own favorites list, and I forgot to comment on Starrkers' original question.
Truth be told, the first time I saw someone favorite themselves I was a little surprised, but mostly because I hadn't seen it before and probably wouldn't have thought of doing it. I haven't considered it a weird thing because there have always been more authors on the list of the person in question. So it didn't seem as curious as it would be if someone had favorited themselves and only themselves.

I think of my favorites list as a blissfully selfish place. I get to hoard all these lovely pieces that have truly meant something to me in some way, regardless of whether I know the author. Incidentally, a few people who mean a lot to me have also written things that touched me deeply. But there are also pieces by people I never knew existed. It doesn't have to be based on who you know and who you're "in" with. I find that the more someone allows me to see who they are, the more I want to read their writing. But I also find treasures by people I will probably never know.
I'm generally moved by images and memory, which sort of equate to similar beasts in my mind. The one becomes the other and the volume on that pairing increases when an accessible and understandable feeling is thrown in.
Perhaps it comes down to what we're each looking for and how we integrate that Find once we have it.

Gah. I could never do that. I need to love the stories I have on my fave list. And I'd appreciate if people didn't put me there just because they like me and don't care much about what I write.
I completely agree. :rose:

Yes, I will do my fawning here, instead of on my fave's list. ;)
*ahem* Yes, mistress.

Now I am nervous what my fave list says about me. *biting fingernails*
The list and I had a long talk the other night. It told me lots of things.

See, you did it again.

This is why I like cruising Favourites Lists - they can be treasure maps to all manner of wonderful discoveries.
So, why bother favouriting yourself? If I'm on your page, I've already found you.

Why? Because it seems to bother you -- a lot. :)

Were you born that abrasive, or did you have to work at it?

Ah, back to your old abusive out-of-blue attacking again, I see.

Just seems to me that Starrkers is beating the issue to death. What's it to her that people put in one "favorites" vote for themselves (just as you did)?

I don't think it's a big deal, and as Imp says, it can help with self-promotion, however, you were deliberately nasty when there was no need.

And I don't see how calling you on your bad behavior can be termed "abusive." I suppose it's just fine for you to be as nasty as you like, but if someone calls you on it, then that's "abuse."

Hypocrite, much?

Fine. Then I call you on your bad behavior. :D

What you term "bad behavior" isn't always such.

Doesn't it ever get old? I mean, being a nasty, snarky old man 24/7 has got to make you tired. I don't believe I've ever seen you post anything nice or complimentary. Ever.

You can't say the same about me.

Yesterday, on the "Are you tough as nails . . ." thread, first response:

"Good on ya. Great story, well told."

Nuff said.

Your abusiveness never stops, does it? Don't bother to talk to me about nasty and snarky. I have never used the nasty, abusive, foul language on you that you have used on me--it's all in the posting backlogs that anyone can check out on my profile. A little tough to check out yours, as you've been so ashamed of some of the things you've posted that you've erased them.

Ah, yes, the gangbanging starts. I guess Cloudy didn't like being called on her recent Internet game. :D

No.

I truly believe you enjoy acting like an asshole.

Why can't you interact with other people in a civilised manner?

I do. I think my idea of civilized might be more adult than yours is, though.
