We've been hearing that Freddie was repeatedly denied medical attention. That neglect is very strong evidence toward 2nd degree murder.

Not as much as you might think. With how often people in custody have feigned medical concerns for the variety of reasons, it's become standard to ignore someone claiming a medical emergency unless there's something to suggest the cry has legitimacy. For example, Eric Garner was in plain sight, the officers on the scene could see he was unresponsive after calling out he can't breathe. Freddie Gray was in the back of a van, where there were no cameras. Factor in engine sounds, wind, and more, and there's very little suggestion. The only way this amounts to second degree murder is if they can prove this was a rough ride tactic; if so, it would mean they knowingly placed Gray in harms way (which is immense reason to believe he's having an emergency) and still ignored him. If they claim Gray not being strapped in was an accident and nothing can refute this, then negligent homicide is the best the courts can do.

As for the statement from Batts, let's cite Ferguson. Their police department tainted the investigation and threw Wilson under the bus (the public opinion bus, not the legal bus) hoping to stave off the federal investigation into the administration. It didn't work for Ferguson, but Batts is preparing for the same thing. If he takes the public side, hopefully nothing about this case swings back on him and his department as a whole.

Again, I cite Ferguson. Following the unrest, the locals insisted most of the rioters and looters within Ferguson came from the neighboring towns and used Brown's death as an excuse to act like animals. If it was just the Antonio Zambrano-Montes approach of throwing rocks at police or the gangs' alleged intention of focusing assaults on law enforcement officers, I'd believe it was local residents. This random pandemonium against civilian property is more likely the actions of out-of-towners who only have to deal with police and government response to the riots but not the effects of the riots themselves.

I get that the question was rhetorical, but I asked it to myself, & came up with an answer: "Nothing.... Literally, not a darn thing."

So why do it? Again, no real reason.

But the fact is I have lived in the same area for decades, & much of our local downtown I see as being caught in a never-ending circle: No new businesses will fill the buildings b/c of how they look, & I got a feeling that's why nobody is spending the time or money to improve their looks, conditions, etc.

So,...

Why not destroy, loot, etc. in one's own neighborhood? They're only destroying, robbing, etc. b/c of what cops are (in their opinions) either doing incorrectly or failing to do. If they were to travel to another town to take out that aggression, they might end up doing so in a town where cops do their actual jobs & do so properly.

The problem is too many people who do get their so-called education (& perhaps also some who don't) put too much stock/worth into it.

Much the way we're wrong to trust police to do the right thing, protect people, etc., most suppose/expect teachers are teaching them the truth, & all of it. None of them are necessarily teaching the current truth if it's changed since the textbook has (Pluto's planet status, etc.), but all the students & their elders are incorrectly, improperly believing so.

Just hit me how ironic it is my original plan was to end this with pointing-out the reverse: That some teens & younger are tried as adults... After being arrested (if not already killed) by the cops for doing things they may have been nowhere near, & things the same cop may have actually done/been involved in.

several groups of white allies went to predominantly white neighborhoods, in the city, to protest after curfew. they received more than two warnings, and someone was even offered a ride home–by the police. they were given the opportunity to disperse, and a police captain was heard telling a crowd he supports their efforts.

minutes away, in a predominantly black neighborhood also in the city, folks are being pepper sprayed, and violently arrested.

Last year, four black parole officers driving on their way to arrest someone were blocked in by patrol cars at a busy intersection in the village of Airmont in Ramapo, New York (about 35 miles north of New York City). According to video obtained recently by a Rockland County newspaper, the Journal News, the police pointed their guns at the parole officers, who had aroused suspicions because they were black people wearing bulletproof vests.

Black law enforcement leaders criticized Ramapo police for the incident, saying it was a case of racial profiling.

“If these guys aren’t safe, imagine what a young black man feels about interacting with the police,” said Damon Jones, the New York representative of Blacks in Law Enforcement of America. “They have no chance.”

I honestly don't know how many years ago it was, but MANY. I turned-on an episode of MTV's show "True Life", & the intro said it was going to be all about what was "now" popularly known in many cities as "DWB: Driving While Black".

Since I have never (then or since) been black or licensed, I stopped watching. Every time I see that on a license plate now, I wonder if the person got it on there for that reason, or if police seeing it make similar assumptions. It's about 50/50 what I assume, since being stopped by an officer for race or any other related reason seems to increasingly equal the same person won't be alive, free, & able to operate the vehicle tomorrow.

Wouldn't need our own month if we were recognized for our accomplishments both in America and through out history already. Yes our own award show because for years and years (it's better now, not perfect but better) it didn't matter what we did we didn't get any recognition. And nobody really blames you when a black kills another black. You might get some slack for the socioeconomic situations that have been dominated by whites for literally centuries but that's different from blame.
