Firefly/Serenity Revisited. OOC Thread/Casting Call.

My writing for Book is so very wrong on so many levels. Still, I will give it a shot. To say that it will be a challenge, is a large understatement. I always thought that Joss wasn't sure what to do with him in the series. He was always looking for ways to be useful, and could not, due to his morals, participate in the crime. If I write for him, I will try very hard to do him justice, religion and all. I am nothing like that character, but I always respected him for knowing who he was and sticking with it. It is like what he always said. To believe in something so much that you allow it to transform you life (unless your a Southern Baptist Republican) is a good thing. There is the potential that he will not "hook up" and if not, that is fine. If he turns out to be alone, I can just watch until something presents itself. He did that on the show anyway. Also, I am sure he would not just sleep around (Unlike Jayne, who would screw a light socket, if he could find a way to make it work) but that makes it even more of a challenge. Crap... were did I put that Bible I stole from that motel twenty years ago, when I was struggling with who the fuck I was?

(Wanders off to search the basement boxes.... OH! She finds some old Uncle Scrooge comics, some racy romance novels with steroid using vikings and highlanders on the covers and an old bottle of pine scented massage oil.... What a combination! Well screw gaming.... Wanders off to her bedroom for a fantasy about Daisy Duck rubbing her down with massage oil... so very, very, very wrong. Donald never did appreciate her.)

o.o so wrong on so many levels..... << >> anything with Rogue in it in there?

lol. totally missing the double meaning behind Finesse....think about it. What's the one thing Jayne is NOT capable of on a mission (other than behaving)

hahahaha...I got it...I laughed when I read that word...I couldn't think of anything further from a good description of this crew.

You know you've watched way too many cartoons when you know what a show is from the theme song, even though the show predates your birth by at least ten years o.o

I'd say she was invited, that way its legit so they can't throw her overboard LOL!

There's no way they'd invite her. The only reason Mal invited her in Trash was simply so they could con her out of her job. So she's likely in jail right now as last we saw her she was stuck in a garbage bin where the authorities were alerted to.

So getting her back is definitely going to need to be well thought out. Neither the crew nor Saffron have any reason whatsoever to trust one another now.

Agreed. What I meant by invited was she is invited by the benefactor looking to pit those he's lured into his game against each other.

Yes, the second one is quite cute. :) OK.... Now to try to think like an old black preacher who is ex-something military intelligence...

I was tempted to play Mal, but I wouldn't be the type of Mal you're looking for Velvet.

However I would be very happy to play the Operative.

Nope, he never told Mal, and if he would have told anyone it would have been him. I am not going to speculate. I will just try to get the voice right.

"A very special hell..."

I have this theory that he himself was an Operative at some point. But there's no real telling.

It's pre-Serenity. They wouldn't have met him. Unless we're going ahead and saying Serenity does not happen. Which is probably the best choice, otherwise we only have a limited amount of time and flexibility.

Now what we could do is still give nod to Serenity by guiding the story toward it, albeit more slowly. Joss himself said he planned on having them discover Miranda be the Season 2 finale. We could still end up discovering Miranda, fighting the Operative and such, but things could be done differently.

That was my assumption as well. There's also this:

"On the 2007 Browncoat Cruise, Ron Glass revealed with Whedon's permission several facts about Book, including that Derrial was not the shepherd's real name, but the name of a man he had killed."

Since Operatives have no names, this could also suggest he was one as obviously after he "quits" he'd need a name.

Yes, these were my thoughts too. I was thinking that perhaps the crew could run across her in Alliance custody, maybe going to or from an appeal. She would then offer them a juicy take in return for being busted loose.

That would probably nix the space pirate competition idea the others were discussing though... unless she became privy to some info while inside?

Again, you're on the same page as me. I think the issue about Miranda and the creation of Reavers should be included... at a later stage. We'll need an Alliance presence of some kind throughout the SRP and I see no reason why that writer can't switch from playing an Alliance ship's captain to an Operative at some stage in the game. The same character could even be selected to become an operative, because of the knowledge he already has about Serenity and the Tams.
