Firefly

come to dinner

She brightens at his acceptance. Then she stands. "Give me just a second"
She goes to Zoe, who turns during their conversation to look at Odin. Giving Inara a tight smile and a pointed look followed by a slow nod, Zoe turns back to the captain and the moving of him.

Inara turns with an happily excited look upon her face and walks back to Odin.

When she comes back into the room she takes his arm and leads him toward Serenity. "Dinner won't be for an hour or so, so why don't you and I go to my apartment and have tea and get to know each other a bit more while we wait. I might have a vid to watch wile we wait?" she suggests as she looks coyly up at him.

Odin nodded, then grabbed a minicomputer and pocketed it while waiting for her. When she came back in, she almost dragged him towards the ship. He did his best to keep up with her, and when they were inside Serenity, he marvelled at the interior. He had never actually been on a Firefly-class ship before, and it was bigger inside than it seemed on the outside. He listened to her chatting away, and responded as best he could, but he was almost lost in examination of the ship's decor.

on Serenity

Inara stops talking long enough to notice Odins facination with the ship.
He is interested in the ship, Kaylee, would be a better host to him. She disengages her arm from his, but continues to stand near him.

She turns toward him as they walk, her hands now clasped behind her back, her manner easy. "MM, Odin? Perhaps our engineer could give you a better tour?. I am sure she wouldn't mind right now, and I wouldn't mind getting her for you. She knows much more about Serenity than I will ever understand. It would be a treat for her to talk about the ship."

Odin blinked, then smiled, and shrugged. "Men of any age are fascinated by machines. I've never actually been onboard a Firefly before. How much of it is standard, and how much is just decor that you and your friends have put on it?"

talking again

Looking around and smiling Inara answers, "I guess most of it is the ship, around a fourth of it is us making her ours. Serenity is our home and it is human nature to desire creature comforts." she laughs, "I hadn't really ever thought about it!"

Odin nodded, then grinned. He did that himself. His ship was covered on the inside with stuff from Old Earth. He was a little odd that way. He stretched slightly, and then looked at her again. "So, what kinds of jobs have they been taking lately?"

"Crazy jobs! You've seen the vids! It seems that kind of thing follows us around." Inara laughs, "What about you? You aren't lookin' for work are you?"
she watches his face for a moment. This man was intriguing and mysterious... what a refreshing combination.

OOC: Not trying to join the thread...just what to say how nice it is to see some Browncoats. Can't stop the signal.

OOC: Sorry about taking so long to write here. I have just been a little busy lately and RL has been taking a lot of my time.

IC: Jayne took one look at Mal laying on the bed in the infirmary with a smile then turned and looked back up the stares, the smile even larger on his face. Now that Mal was out of the way he had a chance to take over the ship but there was only one thing that was stopping him.... he didn't know how to fly it and there was still the matter of River. He turned on his heels as if she was right behind him and wondered just where she was because she did give him the creeps, if it wasn't for the doctor then she would make her take a spacewalk without the suit but she had gotten useful and as much as he hated to admit it she did help more times than he could count.

He check his weapon in its holster then took one look back at Mal before turning around and walking up the steps without even looking back then walked to the dining room, sat down at the table and pulled out a bottle and a glass, this was one of those times where he needed a drink.

"What the hell am I still doing here?" he asked himself before he swallowed the liquid.

Shiny...

OOC:

Name: Jade Green
Age: 25
Height: 5"5
Weight: 180lbs
Eyes: Green
Hair: Dyed a violent shade of deep red, almost blood red
Physical Descript: Jade's small, almost dainty. Always seen with deep red lipstick and a wicked looking dagger hanging off her belt.
Clothing: T-shirt (white) and long lite blue pants covered by a long sleeved coat split up the sides and back, closed in the front. (green with bamboo patterns)
Origin: Caucasion
History: Jade is a child of misfortune. Then she turned it into a great big fortune. Now she's on the run... Niska isn't exactly happy with her, if you catch my drift.

IC:
Jade crept along the alleyways of Persephone. There were plenty of them. She turned a corner and almost ran into a darkly clad henchman. Damn! How did Niska find her here? She heard the distant sound of feet thumping on the hard packed ground and inwardly groaned. Shaking her head, she slipped the dagger from its sheath quietly and crept up the henchman. Taking his chin in her hand suddenly, she slid the blade cleanly across his throat.

Letting the body fall to the ground, she picked up a hand gun from his dead person and resumed her scurrying through Persephone's underground. One less henchman was the price Niska had to pay. "One day I'll see the real you, Niska," she hissed to herself as she appeared blinking into the market place. She soon lost herself amongst other people winding their way amongst shops and stalls selling a wide variety of interesting things.

"Mal!"
She heard a woman's voice and became aware of a shuttle hovering close to the ground, its door open. Without thinking, she jumped into the shuttle, taking care to make it so that she wasn't seen. Once inside, she found to her amazement that it was swathed in rich deep colours. Silks and other lush materials littered the interior. It was clear that the person that owned this shuttle was doing very very... very good business.

She soon found somewhere to hide, it was relatively easy in all the luxurious clutter of the shuttle. Covered in silk... she was escaping, covered in silk! She almost cackled with the madness of it, but stopped herself as she heard the owners of the shuttle return. They seemed to be in a hurry....

*********************

Inara had docked some time ago. She had heard Jayne say her name... rather loudly and she didn't think he'd be shouting his own name while on the trip back to Serenity.

Jade emerged stealthily from under the pile of silks she had been hiding in and poked her head out of the shuttle door to see if the coast was clear. Her eyes came in direct contact with another set of eyes. She had no idea that she was staring into the eyes of a psychic... into River Tam's eyes. River cocked her head and smiled enigmatically. Then she took Jade's hand and began to pull her along the walkways.

For some reason Jade didn't resist. The next thing she knew she was being pushed down the stairs into a small room and River was gone. She had not met anyone else on the ship and she wasn't sure what was going to happen now. At least it wasn't an Alliance ship... she could tell by just the general feel of Serenity.

Then she turned around.

On the narrow cot bed she saw the most beautiful piece of weaponry she had ever seen in her life. A gun. Oh... shiny....
She walked over and sat on the bed, picking up the gun and closely inpected it. It had a few modifications... but other than that, it was an original. And the name "Vera" was scratched into the side of it. She smiled... "So, you're Vera?" she talked softly to the gun...

Ooooh... very shiny.....

Odin shrugged, then pondered the question. He honestly made his money through contacts in both the Alliance and the Browncoats. What few jobs he did were bodyguard missions. Still, their kind of work might make for a refreshing change, he thought. It might be worthwhile to keep an eye one them as well, and it would give him something interesting and possible amusing to do. He smiled, then nodded. "I could use something interesting, yes."

Kaylee emerged from the pile of engine parts she had been thrown into when the ship took off so suddenly.

"What the.." as she looked at the mess.

"And I just got it all cleaned up back here" she mumbled to herself

She made her way back to the mess hall and found Jayne tossing back a drink.

"Jayne, what is going on here? I was just tuning up the oxygen generator when I was thrown back. Now there is a mess back there."

Kaylee made her way tot the sink and looked in the mirror.. she grabbed the nearest rag and attempted to removed the grease from her forhead.

Jayne took one look at Kaylee as she walked into the room with a smile then remembered that she had taken up with the doctor and tossed back another drink.

"All that I know is that Mal is laying in the infirmary wounded and Inara is in her shuttle talking to a new client or passenger or something like that... It was another interesting trip to Persephone. I swear that place is bad luck."

He got to his feet and moved towards Kaylee, the bottle in his hand.

"Is there anything I can do to help. I know that I am not good with engines but I can still do some heavy lifting."

He then grabbed the rag and tried to wipe some of the grease off her forehead.

Kaylee stepped back as Jayne towards her. She grabbed the rag out of his hand and turned back to the mirror.

"I think everything is fine back there Jayne. Serenity is having a bit of an ol' tempertantrum with that roungh take off. You know how she gets. There is just a bit of cleaning up to do and I think I can handle that."

Satisfied with the amount of grease, well..lack there of now, on her forehead she turned back to Jayne.

"So what the hell happened down there, and why is Mal in the infirmary?"

Jayne looked at Kaylee and wanted to let out a laugh but he knew that would be the stupid thing to do but then again it would break the mood in the room and laughed anyway.

"You know Mal. He got himself in trouble and tried to help someone again, got him Gorram self shot and he is now down in the infirmary where the doc is working on him. I would go down and see what is up with him but I just left him there and because of all the excitement I'm going to get some sleep."

He walked away before Kaylee could say anything and gripped the bottle in his hand as he hummed something under his breath. He knew that Kaylee would be angry with him when he got back to her but he didn't really care, all that he wanted was to sleep.

Very slowly he walked down the hallway to his door and pushed it open with his foot but as soon as he did he knew that something was not quite right and pulled out his weapon. As soon as he was at the bottom of the ladder he turned to look at his bed and saw the woman sitting there holding Vera in her hands.

He almost dropped his weapon when he saw just how beautiful she was but then he realized just where she was.

"What are you doing in my gorram room and what are you doing with Vera?"

He kept his weapon pointed at her.

Gorramit!

She barely squeaked when the man from the shuttle suddenly came chargin' into the room. She eyed his weapon and decided that he was definitely not at all peace like. So she raised Vera. And pointed it at him. Loaded.

"You'd best be putting that thing down, all peace like, ya understand?" she said softly, using Vera to point at the little hand gun he was waving around. "While yer at it drop that there bottle and yer pants too..." she grinned. She wasn't really serious...but then again... "Remember... Vera's bigger than yurs," she murmured at the murderous expression on his face.

Hoping that he would comply, he was a pretty big guy and while she knew how to fight, knowing a few Karate strikes here and there, she also realised that he would ultimately win. "Now yer gonna do one thing for me, and yer gonna do it otherwise I might be likin' to be putting a few more holes in that there buff body," she raised her eyebrows and shook Vera around meaningfully. "Now, yer gonna be actin' all normal like and yer not gonna be tellin no-one I'm here and everything’s gonna be all shiny? Got it?" she said casually and smiled.

"I'm Jade, now yer can tell me yer name... and the name of this here gorram ship,"... she didn't tell him to do up his pants, if indeed he had dropped them.

Jayne looked at the woman who still held Vera in her hands and was pointing it at him. She even had the gall to tell him to drop his pants which there was no chance of him doing but he would drop his weapon to the floor as he did not want to get shot right now, especially by Vera, his own weapon. He dropped his weapon down to the floor and looked at her, wondering how it was possible to get to her and knock her down onto the floor before she fired a shot but then again he knew that if she did she would soon be found.

"Why is it that I should do what you say? You hold my gun at me and tell me that I should just act normal because you are doing so. Why do you think that I am going to do that. Are you out of your gorram mind? You must be stupid."

He stood there and looked at her though, still trying to word a plan to get to her.

"By the way the name is Serenity and my name is Jayne. Now point Vera somewhere else before I get angry."

She raised an eyebrow once more once he was finished, only slightly disappointed that he hadn't dropped his pants, oh well, plenty of other chances to get him to do that. After all, she was the one with the big gun, a point of fact that she was like to remind him of.

"I am the one with the big gun, you know?"

Then in chinese, "Serenity? Funny name," then she switched back to english, well... bad english, "Ya'll should figure that I'm the one yer shouldn't be angerin'," then she out right laughed, "Jayne, huh? You must be the stupid one if you kept yer name that way... you do know that there's a girl's name, then?" she kept on laughing.

After a moment or two of snorting and chuckling, she pointed Vera at him again, "You here is gonna be my slave, gorramit. I say so cos I gots me the big gun here, and ya'll don' want some of yer parts be missing next time you exit this room, no?"

Why the bad english, you ask? Well, Jade had long ago learned that a sweet looking girl like her was supposed to be sweet sounding, so if she purposely spoke wrongly and well... cursed alot. They always got unbalanced when hearing such language from her sweet little mouth. Then again... she was used to deviousness... being Niska's Companion hadn't exactly been a piece of cake after all....

Jayne almost choked and looked at her, there was no chance that he was going to be anyone's slave and that was the truth of it. He was a free man, it was true that he was wanted by several different people but that was part of his line of work, the work that he was good at and he was paid well for it, well until he got onto this ship to be recruited by Mal.

He cursed loudly in Chinese at her then looked straight into her eyes.

"You know that there is no way I will be your slave. Just because you are holding Vera in your hands and have her pointed at me it does not mean that I will do whatever you ask. I for one know that if you shoot me then you will be thrown into the airlock most likely then thrown out into deep space. I would personally love to see that."

She blinked slowly up at him, suddenly batting her long lashes at him, giving him a full little, naughty pout. "Awww.... who said I was gonna shoot yer?" she asked, her eyes wide with innocence. Then she lowered Vera, slipping a dagger the size of her forearm from her left sleeve but keeping it for the moment hidden. A back up plan.

Then she stood quietly, gracefully, keeping in mind all of her impressive Companion training. Oh if only the Abbess could see the way she was using her art of "persuasion". The old bat would have had a heart attack.

She kept a hold of Vera but pointed the muzzle towards the floor and blinked up at him, a slightly wet shine coming to her eyes, but not a single tear fell, though not for want of her blinking furiously.

Her tone changed and suddenly she was the innocent little girl, "Mister... please... I...I.. I'm sorry," she genuinely seemed sorry, her voice soft as she pushed her chest out slightly to better accentuate the fullness of her... curves. She looked guiltily to the side, keeping half an eye on the big man standing at the door, and bit her lip nervously. "Please mister... I didn't mean to threaten you," then she looked up, her head coming up in a rush as her words spilled from her mouth, her eyes wide with fear and her voice hushed, "Please mister, I'm running away from a very bad man.... I just wanna place to stay! I swear I'll be no trouble... I stowed-ed away on that pretty shiny shuttle and saw this here shiny gun... I love guns... she's so gorram pretty..." she trailed off... and then began the rush of fearful words almost instantly again, "When you came in here, I panicked... please... I'm scared and you're so big... and..." her eyes became wide with what could be construed as awe, "So... big..." she trailed off and finished lamely, biting her lip, "Please mister... I'm so... so... s..s..s..scared,"

She drew a shaky breath, and seemed to just collapse onto the bed, her eyes closed as if she had just passed out. She opened her eyes a crack to try to see what he was doing and hoped to god that he believed her bogus story. Well... some of it was true. Why the hell had she stowed away on a ship, anyway? Oh yeah... that's right. She didn't want to get tortured. Fair incentive. Wasn't it?

She kept a hold of the dagger hidden beneath her voluminous sleeves, gripping the hilt with white knuckles. Always good to have a back up plan...

Jayne's first thought was to check on her, to see if she was alright and to get Vera back but there was something to this that just did not seem right and it seemed to be screaming to him to stay there. He stood and looked at her, trying to figure out just what was going on here then moved slowly towards the ladder. He would not give her the chance to do something to him as he knew something was not right. It was then that it dawned on him.... Mal.... Saffron!

He let out a laugh and leaned back against the ladder, folding his arms over his chest.

"You is good, I will give you that but I remember what happened with Mal. He was stupid but I am not. I believe that you stowed away on the shuttle but anything else is a good story. Now, how about you telling me the truth or I will get Zoe or even better Inara. How about giving Vera back to me as well."

He stood back with his arms crossed and waited for her to sit back up.

Kaylee was shocked al Jayne for leaving mal like that. She watched as he walked off.

"Sometimes I can't believe you Jayne" she called after him.

She threw the rag down and slowly followed after him. She heard shouting coming from the room.

"Jayne...everything shiny down there?" She shouted down the hall

Jayne looked up the ladder quickly then at the woman who still had Vera in his hands and was still pointing it at him.

"Yeah, everything is just shiny down here. Are things shiny with you? How is Mal doing?"

He looked at the woman and knew that what he had just said was risky and it might get him shot but he felt as though he was going to get shot anyway no matter what he did. He leaned back against the ladder and looked at the woman with his arms crossed, wondering what was going through the woman's head and what she was going to say first. He knew that this was just a test of wills and he did not want to lose this.

Jade's eyes widened and she gave him a considerably long and calculating look before she sighed and dropped the gun even further. Then she tossed it over to Jayne's feet, sighing again, she dropped down onto the bed and crossed her arms as well, leaning back against the head board.

"Okay, so you're not stupid. Too bad for me, I suppose," another sigh and she nodded up towards the top of the ladder, "I half expected you to turn me in," she said softly, her tones once again cultured and that soft voice of hers returning to natural.

"I can't tell you everything and you will just have to be happy with what I am going to tell you," she nodded and raised a delicate eyebrow as she slipped the dagger discreetly back up her sleeve. Sometimes, honesty was the best way to go. Well... mostly honest.

"Somebody wants me, pretty bad. I used to work for him and I well... screwed him," she smiled a pretty little smile, her green eyes softly sad, "So he's understandably mad," then she caught the slight twinkle in his eye and she calmly added, "Don't bother turning me in, there's no reward except maybe a hanging for the person who brings me back," she shrugged. "Adelai Niska is like that,"

Then she leaned back and blinked slowly at him, all calm and cool self possession and waited for his reaction.
