oh, and the offer is a serious one (both for the gathering and the tractor sex).

i volunteer my house! here's why:

1. fairly centrally located and close to a major airport
2. pretty decent kitchen with indoor grill, wood-fired pizza oven, and open to great room with large-screen tv
3. mucho privacy in a lovely pastoral setting
4. fresh local produce, eggs, dairy, and meat
5. horsebackriding, hiking, farm equipment, haylofts, bon fires, fireflies

Much better than my house, my kitchen is way too tiny. But I'll bring my own cupcake tins. :D

Checked out my farmer's market. No ramps.

Fuck all you people with access to this elusive vegetable. Fuck those that can get fiddleheads, too.

There, there.

The season is stupidly short. May not even be available hereabouts, anymore.

But, but, but....

They're supposed to grow on the side of the highway here! And, if I'm not mistaken, it should still be in season, though towards the tail end.

I mean, it's not like I'm bitching about not getting any morels down here, which are in season for a day and a half.

I am here to declare my love for instant grits and berate myself for not buying this wonderful little box of joy earlier.

All the things we'll do...honey and butter...

Cream, cheese, salt and pepper...

Ya can pick fiddleheads in the woods, right now, here......

It's homemade ice cream weather. Yay! Whilst Ben & Jerry's finally made it to my country (after 8 years!), there's still nothing like homemade Cinnamon and Clove ice cream. I make mine using a custard base (heavy cream and egg yolks), as I like the texture much better.

Thick Greek yoghurt in the ice cream maker is also really and truly wonderful.

I'm thinking about trying Nigella's sweet chili syrup on some plain vanilla, soon.

I just had some madagascan vanilla ice cream with warm raspberries and chocolate sauce.

Interesting. I've never tried chocolate and wine together, but it sort of makes sense to my tastebuds.

I think I can do the spicy in the sweet.

I keep watching people make different ice creams on Iron Chef and failing miserably though. Gives me pause.

Iron Chef hasn't made it over here yet. How do they fail? What sorts of ice creams have they tried to make? :)

I don't like grainy ice cream so I pop cinnamon stick and whole cloves in the heavy cream while it's custarding. I don't want the powdered stuff getting in the way of smoothness. I recently came across a recipe for Avacado Icecream and would really like to try that.
