There was NO political cost to Biden. When this started, support for Ukraine was bipartisan. Biden singlehandedly destroyed that, duplicitous, timid and cowardly little ratfink that is is.

This type of action is indicative of a transitioning. Even if some sort of settlement is forced on this region the Russians have engendered so much hatred that they can anticipate a more or less permanent insurrection for the next 30-50 years. Ukraine and the neighboring parts of Russia will be turned into a permanent hit and run battleground, much as Ireland was for so many years. If some sort of 'peace' is declared in the next few months or years, it will eventually dawn on the Russians that they have already lost. This will be a solid result for both the West and China, because Russia has been economically ruined, booted out of the Middle East, effectively emasculated in Eastern Europe, cut off from Africa and lost domination of Central/Eastern Asia to China.
Even Donald Trump couldn't mess this up.

Well, I don't think even Trump will be able to impose a ceasefire here without solid guarantees for Ukraine that Russia (Putin) will not agree too. He's still sticking to his original demands, which virtually guarantee that the Russian Army can rebuild and try again. Ukraine won't go for that one. At all. And there own military industry is scaling up fast. Russia won't HAVE an oil industry by the end of this year, and a lot of their military manufacturing will have been wiped out. Logistics too. Their rail system is takimg a pounding and its edging towards collapse.
The Russian Army is running down - I think by middle of this year they reach a point where they are all out of artillery. Their navy is, for all intents and pur[oses as far as the Black Sea is concerned, gone. Their air force is running down and Ukraine's is scaling up. We should soon see the first F16 and Mirage raids into Russia as Ukraine completes their virtual elimination of Russia air defences and start raiding and penetrating at will. And add drones and Ukrainian cruise missiles into that....
The only thing keeping Russia in the game is the ongoing infantry attacks, and Ukraine drones are getting better and better at taking Russian out one man at a time.
Now what Ukraine needs to do is organize their Units rather more coherently, get rid of the crap commanders and officers and organize their training way and the fuck better. THAT is a huge weakness right now. There are some good units and good commanders, but there are a lot that aren't and Syrski seems unable to do the needed reforms. They're sufferings needless losses and withdrawals thru poor command at senior levels, and inadequate training.
Russia has effectively lost this war already, and even if Trump cut all military aid (which he won't), the EU is slowly ramping up and Ukraine can hold on, regardless.
The only real path now for Trump is to let the EU and Ukraine BUY the weapons Ukraine needs, and THAT is a win-win. NO giving billions away, selling the stuff, and Trump can sell THAT based on outage at Russian intransigence. Even for MAGA diehards on this war, that's an easy sell. Simple business transaction. We sell them our old junk, saves us the cost of disposing of it, and the EU can look after the humanitarian aid.

Some reports also indicate that Ukrainian soldiers were nearly surrounded during the retreat.

• Israel is still standing; Iran, Hamas, and Hezbollah, are weakened, and Assad is out of Syria. (President Musk (and DonOld) could undo much of the progress that has been made.)
