Freeport Adventurers

After Fern and Perrin split up in the town, Perrin decides to investigate the armory. He is always looking to add more weapons to his arsenal that will make him a more effective fighter. He ducks to enter the weapons dealer, looking at the display cases. He sees some jeweled swords along one wall, and halbards along another. He looks in one display case of some ornate daggers. He sees a dagger in a strange holder in the case. Perrin brings over the proprietor and asks him about the dagger. "Well, my large friend, this sheath is strapped onto your forearm. It has a spring that when you flex your arms just so... the dagger loosens and falls into your hand. It is a great suprise weapon in a fight."
Perrin is fascinated by this setup and asks the man how much it costs. They banter for a few minutes till they come to a common price. Perrin pays the man and has him help strap the carrier onto his arm. Perrin likes the way that it works and he tests it out a few times before he leaves the shop.
Back on the street, Perrin laughs out loud to himself. "You can never have to many suprised in a fight." , he says to no one in particular. He makes his way back to the tavern. He arranges for a room on the second floor and waits for Fern to come back to the tavern.

Enter: Toshiro

ooc: This thread looks interesting. If no one objects I would like to join in on the inpending fun. BTW: Is it 9 AM the next day or is it still nighttime? I'll come in with the time being in the morning. If need be, I can just sit until everyone gets to be in the same time reference.

ic: My horse is tired. My black Trenchcoat and Fedora hat are covered in dirt and grime. My black clothing is covered as well as my Sunglasses. I never take off my Sunglasses unless to fight or impress a lovely woman. We've been riding all night to evade the Militia but thankfully my little trickery worked on them and made them too confused to track me. There's some irony in the fact that they go all out to get what was stolen from them that they stole themselves not too long ago. The sun breaks over the horizon, heralding the new day as I ride on the road leading up to the town of Freeport. Cute little place. My mission is almost complete then I'm out of work for a while it looks like. I ride on through the north gate and enter the town. I find a sign in the town square leading me to the road "Deity Prayers." I head down it and find the temple I need. I see one of the 4 here is for the God Dionysus, or as my master Kaemon liked to call him "The God of Hooch and Smooch." I chuckle a bit then feel a bit sad that he's not around anymore to enjoy his own jokes.

I enter the Buddhist Temple and take off my Fedora to expose my bald head so as to show my respect to the Great Buddha even though I'm not Buddhist myself. I go up to the monk at the end of the Temple and ask for the Head Monk. He goes off and returned with the Head Monk. We didn't even have to say a word. I mearly reached into my Trenchcoat's pocket and pull out the amulet that I was hired to get back from the Militia. Handing it to the Head Monk, a smirk crept across his face at seeing this artifact of Buddhist culture returned to it's rightful place. He tries to offer me money for my troubles but I tell him to keep the money. I stole enough money from the Militia troops to sustain me for a while. He bowed and then walked away saying "Thank you" The other monk stares at me dumbfounded as I turn and walk out of the Buddhist Temple, trenchcoat flapping in the breeze. One thing I learned from Kaemon was to respect other people's deities. If they do anything wrong, it's usually the people that pervert the words and actions of the Almighty One... or Two if you're like me.

I get to my horse and remount him to head back into the town square. I remembered seeing a tavern up the way I came in called the "Firewater" tavern.

"Guess I can go in there for something this morning." I say as I finally make my way there. Tying my horse to the trough outside, I enter the establishment, but not before trying the best I could to get the dirt and grime off my clothing and shoes. As I walk in I can see the barkeep at his usual place and a real looker of a woman sitting at a table eating breakfast.

*This could be most... interesting.* I thought as I went up to the bar and ordered some hard liquor. I look around and something else seems to catch my eye. A Help Wanted sign.

It reads: "Seeking 8-10 travelers of random races and skills to quest with. All supplies, room and board will be paid, along with good pay." Underneath that was another note: For all seeking to join the for-mentioned travelling group, please meet here at the 'Firewater' at 6 o'clock pm tomorrow evening.

I look at the message and say out loud, "Well, this might prove to be something worth while. It will keep me busy since my last job is over with." I go to the Barkeep and ask, "When was that note put up?" he responds with, "Yesterday. The second part means TONIGHT at 6pm."

I pull my trenchcoat aside and pull out my Chronometer. Reading 9 am, I decide to relax for the 9 hours until the meeting and order a full bottle of the liquor. I pull out my purse with the multitude of gold and silver coins almost brimming out of it and hand 2 gold pieces for the liquor, then 2 more for the timely information. The barkeep is very happy at the profit he's making and basically tries to make me feel like his best customer, but I know he's just hoping for more gold or silver. I politely ignore him and then I get an idea.

I take off my trenchcoat and let it drop to the floor, exposing what was hidden beneath it: two Japanese Katana blades from over 600 years ago but much longer than normal. These blades are almost as tall as a Samurai from that period if not taller. They were passed down my Master's family generation after generation. Since he had no sons to pass them on and I was practically a son to him, he decided to give them to me. They're immaculate with blue handles and intricate carvings of the family line on the blades as well as the pommel. The scabbards are gold inlayed on cedar with depictions of Dragons and the like.

The look on the Keep's face is amusing to say the least. I then speak up so everyone can hear me, whomever else might be in there.

"My name is Toshiro, student of Kaemon: The greatest in Swordmanship and a Ki Master. I thank you for your hospitality Barkeep, but I ask that you just leave me alone for now. Perhaps, however, you can also tell me who left that "Help Wanted" sign up there?

He looks over my shoulder and I turn as well to see the place where that woman was eating her breakfast, but has now got a candle lit on the table which flickering light dances off her face. The barkeep then opens his mouth to speak to her.

"Jeselynn, you wants that I should get rid of this troublemaker?"

She motions her hand left to right and he bows his head as if he was a minion to her presence. I told him "Thank you" and put my trenchcoat back on while taking two glasses and the bottle of liquor towards this "Jeselynn" woman. I stand at her table and politely ask, "May I have the honor of joining you this morning?"

OOC - Addenedum edit.

I think we're abit out of synch, I've been playing from midday - to evening which is where I think I am now at least, I don't see any one eating breakfast I think Jeselynn jumped a little ahead there, everyone else was settling down to sleep, camp or get rooms for the night. Just a point of order.

Trenchcoats, sunglass and chronometers (watchs whatever), don't quite do it in an AD&D setting but your appearance I guess, will raise a few eyebrows :)

IC:

.... The inn is quite busy, many merchants and traders, having finished their daily business has clearly come to recount their most successful cons and sales amongst each other whilst enjoying a hearty meal and cool beer.

'A thief's paradise!' I think to myself as the robed merchants swagger about drinking and laughing.

I finally spot the fighter sitting quietly in near the open fire place at one end of the bar, drinking from a tankard and generally just watching the other people in the room.

I walk over to the bar and order a glass of rosehip and acorn wine, whilst I am there I check to see if there are any rooms available for the night. Fortunately there are. After paying the innkeeper for the drink and room I make my way through the crowded room, conscious that there may be pickpockets working this joint I keep my hand firmly on my pouch containing my last few remaining gold and silver pieces.

As I approach the table Perrin looks up at me.

Edge

I awake the next morning to the sun shining in my eyes. i rarely sleep past daybreak, but this morning, I was lucky. I was tired the day before from my journey, and now, waking so late, I felt refreshed.
I got up, stretched, and gathered my things. Then, I hurried back into town. Instead of goig stright to the Firewater, which seemed senseless given the fact that I needn't be there until 6 pm, I decided to gather some supplies instead.
First, I checked out the bakery, where I bought a few small rolls for breakfast. Then I found my way to the weapon's store 'Melee n' Blood.'
Inside, I find the items I wuld never have expected to find here. Two weighted short swords, like one of my soldier friends, Diefus, had carried when we'd escaped the prison. He'd trained me with them, specifically, to hold one in either hand, as he did.
And a pair were here. They were a rare item, short swords made specifically to be held in either hand, instead of just one, two swords meant to be used together.
I inquired of thir price, then hurried over to the jewellers and hocked a few items I felt I could do without, coming back with just a tad more than I needed. how's that for luck?
I tested them out, making sure they were truly weighted, then making sure I remembered things the way they had been taught me.
My memory was perfect in this case. I tucked the two blades away, promising myself that I would attach their sheathes to my belt before the day is out.
I decide to wander around the town for a while. Then, as the day grows later, I make my way to the Firewater and order an ale, then sit and wait for the woman to show up.

Fern

The following week, Fern decided that it would be a good idea to go back down to wayloon, the previous 7 days had been a whirlwind, she could hardly remember the events that took place time seemed to shift so disjointedly but now, back on the open plains of south of shadowdale she felt things returning to normal, the brief information she had managed to gather whilst meditating in the Temple added more clues to her personal quest. At last she felt she was making progress.

OOC: I apologize for not reading the pertinent information before hand. I've never done D&D before. (just my luck huh?) If necessary, I will pull my char. out of the thread and have it as if I was never here. As it is, my char. is nowhere close to anything that is in D&D. I'll await a response before pulling my character and the post(s) so as to help keep your thread from getting messed up.

Once again I do apologize.

OOC:

I'm sure you'll pick it up, it's not your fault anyway, the thread was already out of synch before you joined in. I would hang in here I am sure your character will adjust and be accepted by the others

SM

OOC: I couldn't even delete my first even if I wanted to. For some reason the forum won't let me delete my own post. As it is I seem to be completely out in left field here. I think it would be best if I just didn't input any more posts in this thread. I do apologize for doing a ridiclious newbie mistake by not knowing what the hell I was getting myself into.

Have fun everyone.

*Walks out of the thread with his head hung in shame.

OOC:

You shouldn't leave, I think your character might need some changes to fit in but nothing major, maybe an armor make over.
I'm sure Jeselynn will advise you, there are other newbies here too and they are doing very well so you shouldn't feel embarassed or anything. At least you made an effort, and as I said, it wasn't your fault that you were mislead by the timeshifts.

I think the thread is going to need more players so I wouldn't disappear just yet.

OOC

Greetings and welcome.

We do have an out of character board... http://www.literotica.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=75924&perpage=20&pagenumber=2

So if we could lets keep the out of character over there..
Secondly we are all in different time zones. so this is gonna be much more different than a regular D&D game.

When I tell you that i start in the evening and go through what i do all night and then say i notice it's morning, and go eat.

I would like you to tell me what you did in this SAME time line.

I liked Fledgrin's and i believe you all could do it well. We are all gonna be on and off and I expect this to take time to get used to ..

I also believe that the new players will be able to join in and influnce the game

In character

Jeselynn

Sitting Alone sipping my tea, noticing the barkeeps words, I motion for the tall man questioning him to come and sit.

Watching and waiting.. as the time slowly passes..

As the darkly dressed man walked towards me, I could see he was very unusual..

Seeing another man sitting in the corner, I reconizes him from the other day.. with a girl.

Awaiting their moves i order my companion a pitcher of ale and we begin to talk...

Perrin sees Fern approach his table. She tells him that she has gotten a room and is going up to see the room. After Fern leaves, he sees a stranger in the corner of the room motion him over. The stranger offers him some ale as he sits down.
"Thank you for the ale,"says Perrin,"I have worked up a thirst walking through this town. I would gather that you are the person looking for adventurers. I offer my services for this adventure. I do not have much as far as needs of supplies. I already have attended to most of them. However, I would like to hear more of what this adventure entails. I have journeyed from the Northern Glacier and I have experience in fights. I am also a loyal companion. Another adventurer that I was with earlier today also may be interested in joining, I hope you still have room for one more. "

After this long speech for Perrin, who is more adept at fighting then conversing, he settles back to listen to what this mysterious stranger has to say. He has never before seen the like of this person. The stranger looks like an elf, but also does not. Perrin does not like to be so uncertain, it makes him uncomfortable. While listening to his tablemate speak, he keeps an eye towards the stairs to see if Fern comes back down. He is sure that Fern would want to talk to this stranger also.

'I see I am making you unconfortable...'

'I'm a Drow/Grey elf. A sorcerer by nature and skilled fighter by train...'

*smile* 'I am looking for adventures to accompany me on my journey's both to learn about the lands, and search for different things needed to complete my life's journey...'

'I must also return an item to the Dragonspyre mountains...'

Waving to the barmaid again, 'what would you like to eat?'

"That sounds like just the sort of thing that I was looking for. I have been away from my fellow humans too long. I could use such time in the company of others. I accept . Do they have any venison and spiced potatoes here?"

Perrin is now a little surer about himself, now that he knows what the stranger is. He is looking forward to the adventure that this will prove to be.

Perrin reaches out his large paw of a hand "My name is Perrin. I am pleased to meet you. What might thy name be?"

'My name is Jeselynn' I stated.

removing my hood and lifting my head to see the giant man, I held out my hand and shook his.

"what would you like to eat?' *smile*

'I'm sure you must be starved'

Pulling a pouch from my tunic and grabing a few coins from it I droped them on the table and asking the barmaid to bring my friend anything he wanted.

Halia walks into the inn, she had been in town for most of the day stocking up on supplies and asking around to see if there was anything interesting and preferably profitable she could get involved with.

She had taken a long slow amble through woods and fields to get here and although she felt rested and fit for it her money was runnign low and truly now she felt in need of a little adventure to wake her up again.

The Firewater Inn had been recomended to her as a good place to go and pick up information and the last person she had got into conversation with had mentioned that someone was recruiting over there; it was just past 6pm and getting near dusk so Halia walked over to the inn to fidn out more.
The barman is always a good persont o ask she muttered to herself as she ordered a mug of ale; leanign over to attract his attention she asked the barman if he knew who it was who had been recruiting;
"that'd be jese sitting over there" he said

I walk over to the table he pointed out; I see a tall man a fighter for sure and a slim elf who looks like at least part woodelf a mixture which I am begining to realise unlike my homeland is uncommon over here. It also seems to be uncommon for elves and humans to mix so it is a relief to see the two of them together already.

" would one of you be Jese" I ask flashing my best smile

Perrin is busy ripping apart the tender venison with his bare hands to initially notice the stranger approach the table. He wipes his hands on the tablecloth as he hears the stanger ask a question. He puts his hand to the handle of his sword, but Jeselyn motions him to stop. He takes his duties seriously and after signing on, will not allow the leader to be hurt.

Jeselynn turns to Perrin "Stay your sword, Obviously this is another adventurer. Don't worry, I can protect myself. "
Perrin looks at the slim elf and is in agreement with that but then remembers that she is a sorcerous too. Ah, he thinks, she has no worries with skills such as those.

9:30 pm before meeting

Looking up at the woman talking I stand and motion for her to sit.

'How can I help you?' My hood over my face, I study her reaction to me.

'I am Jese.' I said .. My companion, Perrin, looking as if he's ready to speak. 'This is Perrin, he is from the north.'

'Would you like something to eat?'

I smile again as I sit down,
'something to eat would be most welcome, but I think it only fair that as I am the one seeking work at present I be the one who pays for my meals until such a time as I find myself employment'
I grimace slightly internally my purse is light and it would be good to take someone up on the offer of free food but I am not home and be truth told even in my homeland in certian ports I could not be certian that a 'free' meal was truly free of all types of payment.
Well I had paid for a few meals and beds that way but in this case that wasn't what I was wanting.
'my name is Halia, and I have heard word that you may be looking to hire adventurers - I have only recently arrived in town so please forgive me if I am too late or I have misunderstood the rumours'

I hope I am not too late, it would be very good to work with elves or even an elf again I hadn't realised it but I am slightly homesick. I only hope that this elf does not share the attitude of so many I have met so far - thinking that humans, especially adventurers and fighters, are somehow lesser beings. There were of course a few like that back home but I tended to avoid them.

Fern 9.00pm - 9.30pm ish

After having left Perrin to assuage his esurience with more venison, I make my way upstairs to look over my room, drop off a few items and freshen up.

I light the, making use of my tinderbox I light the two oil lamps that sit at about head level in two wall sconces on the far wall, and adjust the wicks.

Having unpacked my gear and checked over my inventory I freshen up at the small wooden wash bowl, tying my hair back I wander back to my possessions. I pick out a long tanned skirt and dark green bodice. Pinching my cheeks up for coloration I quickly plait my hair before making my way back down to the bar for supper.

As I enter the room I notice that he is now accompanied by two other women 'hmmm' I think to myself, 'one of them for sure must be the owner of the wanted poster, but which one?'

I wasn't sure the light was dim and cast shadows in the room, but one of the two looked like she might be an elf.

I wave at Perrin as I walk across the room. Not sure if he noticed or not I approach the table..

also 9:30 ish

Perrin listens to the conversation between Jeselynn and Halia halfheartedly after realizing that Halia is just another adventurer. Perrin goes back to gnawing on the mostly bare deer bones. Out of the corner of his eye, Perrin sees Fern come down into the tavern. He sees her wave to him. Perrin stands up and looks for an extra chair. The tavern is very full so there is none available.

Perrin looks at the next table over and sees a couple of young nobles sitting down together. Perrin taps one on the shoulder.
"I need this chair." He reaches down and picks up the chair by the legs with the man still on it. He lifts the chair up to chest level, tilting it to spill the man onto the floor. Perrin turns to his table and places the chair next to him and then sits back down to complete his meal.

He motions Fern over to the table, indicating the chair for her.

9.30ish pm - Halia

I see another woman approaching the table we are sat at she is tall and has long fair hair plaited down her back. I wonder if she is another adventurer already signed up - she looks to be staying in the inn.

I lean forward to see what the elf will answer me with

I groan as I see Perrin tip the noble man of the seat. Not that I hadn't had that impulse myself in the past but I really didn't want to start anything here.
Jese had agreed that I was to be part of the group and that meant that is Perrin started anything I should back him up - oh well, to be honest the noblemen looked little more than boys and I doubted they would really try and bluster past all three of us - no four I amended hastily as I realised why Perrin had stolen the extra chair. The woman I had noticed a few moments ago was joining us and she obviously knew Perrin.

Fern 9.31 pm ish

As I approach Perrin rises from his seat, 'How gallant', I think to myself not fully appreciating the scene that is about to unfurl.

Before I can interject he approaches another table and 'Oh Dear.' I think, as the occupant sitting with his back towards Perrin finds himself falling earthwards as his seat is removed swiftly froom under him.

'Sensing there might be some trouble I halt and wait for the reaction. Perrin has a very pleased smile on his face and eagerly motions me towards the still warm seat.

Cautiously I approach keeping my eyes on the group of fopps who occupy the neighboring table, one of which begins to help the dislodged man to his feet. 'This might get agitated', I think to myself aware that I only have a dagger strapped to the side of my skirt for real emerencies.

'Umm, Perrin... was that a wise thing do', I ask not quite sure of how the others were reacting. The initial shock of the audacious act now passing and a real sense anger was beginning to build.

I paused waiting for some reaction from the other two women sat near him.

I smile gently as I hear the young woman echo my own thoughts.
'ah but surely no gentleman would refuse a seat to a lovely young woman like yourself' I say loudly - raising my voice so that the nobles can hear and emphasising the word 'gentleman'
'and I am sure that Perrin had no intention of distrubing you sir to such an extent' this comment is directed at the somewhat dazed youngling being helped up from the floor
