Slip-Stream

Getting Duke's message, I have the ground crew prep the X-30 for takeoff tomorrow. I go to bed early, knowing I am going to have a long, exciting day ahead of me.

I toss and turn all night, to nervous to sleep. I get up and dress in my flight suit and head to the Jet. Calling for clearance, I take off and head home. I am the first one there, being it is only 0600. I turn where I can see people when they arrive, and doze off once in a while. Every time my head bobs, I look up and see if anyone has arrived yet.

Jinx...

glances down at her stomach. She could see the flesh starting to pucker as the liquid burned away the skin. It sickened her to watch. She almost wavered. She forced herself to stay calm.

All the while the jerk Zartan was gloating over her she had finally managed to loosen the ropes around one hand. She had to make a move before the freak burned a hole into her stomach. She glanced over at his bag. Would she even know which vial held the antidote.

She closed her eyes. Feeling suddenly at a loss. She opened her eyes again to see his evil smiling face. She gasped as if in pain... her voice a mere whisper... inaudible. As she had hoped... he leaned closer... wanting to hear her beg.

"P... p..." she gasped finally he was close enough. Her hand slipped free and she jabbed him deftly in his side. Temporarily immobilizing him. With a gasp... she pulled at the ropes desperately trying to get free.

Zartan:

Stumbling backward, Zartan grunted in pain from the jab. He quickly shrugged off the pain though. He had a pistol with a silencer attactched to it leveled at her forehead now. "I warn you, if you cause me too much trouble I will just simply put you out of my misery... NOW! Ask me to counteract the acid..." He hissed commandingly.

Jinx...

looked down the barrel of the pistol he held to her head. She looked past it into his eyes... her words were clear and filled with venom.

"Never! You scum sucking creep!" She growled.

Her hand flew up sharply making contact. The pistol flew across the room. She lunged at him punching him hard in the crotch with her free hand. Then she doubled over in pain. It hit her hard. It burned so hot it felt almost cold. She groaned loudly falling backwards. The liquid was continually eating away at her flesh. She could smell the acrid scent of burning flesh. She managed to hold back the bile that threatened to choke her.

She crawled over to his backpack. She had to find the antidote.

Lady Jaye

I went up three flights before I saw the flash of red hair at the entrance to a door off of the stairwell. Grinning, I pulled in beside her and said,"So far so good. But we have an awful lot of snakes out there. And if there are this many Cobra there has to be a Cobra big wig in there with Jinx. This is gonna get tricky."

I pushed up to the door where a small rectangle of glass let me see out briefly. Without turning around I said to Scarlett,"Snake Eyes is helping Storm Shadow. Its up to us to get Jinx out of there. Are you ready to make a go for it?"

Scarlett

Hearing someone running up the stairs made me jump. I was so releived to see Lady Jaye coming up the stairs.
She came next to me, peeking out the triangle of glass.

"So far so good. But we have an awful lot of snakes out there. And if there are this many Cobra there has to be a Cobra big wig in there with Jinx. This is gonna get tricky" she said.

"No shit!!" was my reply.

Just as we were ready to go through the door...we heard gunfire.

I took a breath...Snake Eyes...damnit I need to keep my mind on my job. Sighs. It wasnt this hard before. Those weeks with him to get us back on track is definately not helping here. I also knew he was hurt.

Growling at myself I hurled myself through the door, rolled to a doorway. Clear. I motioned for Lady Jaye to come through.

Lady Jaye

I nodded and followed Scarlett's lead. I was soon by the same doorway. Signalling to Scarlett to go and I would cover her, I watched her move out. We arrived at Jinx's door in this fashion-each covering the other and taking down the occasional viper when we had to.

Breathing heavy from the strain of getting here under so much gunfire I said,"You go first and I will cover you. The instant you get in I am right behind so dont worry."

Seeing the worry in Scarlett's eyes and knowing it was for Snake Eyes, I touched her arm. "He'll be okay. He's one of the best."

Zartan:

It took Zartan a moment longer to recover from Jinx's second blow but he did and he began to laugh at her. "Hahaha! Stupid bitch. The counter active agent isn't in there..." He chortled as he lifted a container of viniger. "NOW ask!" He snapped at her. A second later his ears caught sounds in the hall way. "Damn... I knew those viper's couldn't hold your friends for long..." He tossed the container of viniger onto her bed and ran to the outer balcony of her apartment. "I do so hate leaving a job half done..." He grumbled as he left. In seconds he was gone.

Storm Shadow

I looked down at the Alley Viper that was laying on the roof in front of me, Snake Eyes' knife in the back of his neck. I walked over to him and asked if he was alright. When he said that he was and dropped his shield of bullet proof glass the two of walked to the door into the building and opened it. As soon as we got into the building the two of us checked down the stairs and seeing that they were empty ran down them until they got to Jinx's door where they were surprised to see Scarlett and Lady Jaye about to enter.

Lady Jaye

Hearing the gunfire cease, I stood up cautiously looking for signs that maybe Cobra had overcome our companions. My fears were soon laid to rest as Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow were soon standing beside us. "What took you so long?," I said with a grin-happy simply with the fact that they were okay. Turning to the door, I did not waste any time in knocking but brought my foot up and kicked the door open.

As we all rushed inside, I looked around the apartment and at all the stuff all over. Either Cobra had had a field day or else Jinx was not a very good house keeper. That reminded me of why we were here.

Hearing noises from the bedroom, I looked at the others. Someone was in there and I didnt know if it was Cobra, Jinx or both.

Smiling softly at Lady Jaye. "I know he is, but he is injured."
Taking a deep breath, I was about to say ready, when we saw Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow walk up the hallway.
I smiled but noted that Snake Eyes arm had started bleeding again. I looked at him, smiled faintly.
Before I could do or say anything Lady Jaye had busted the door down and rushed in. I was last in.
We were busy looking around when we heard noises from the bedroom. I readied my gun and listened.
I looked at Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes for a lead.

Snake Eyes

Gesturing for Storm Shadow and Scarlett to follow our lead, I made my way into the apartment after Lady Jaye. Cobra had been here alright. The entire place had been totaly trashed already. This did not look good at all for Jinx, and they knew it also.

Moving slowly to the bedroom door, I look at Lady Jaye with concern as I press my ear to the door. Listening carefully, I'm able to make out a female sound. It was Jinx, and it sounded like she was in pain. Nodding over to the others, my hand grips the doorknob tightly to try and open it.

With a low creaking sound, the door opens to reveal Jinx with the burning scar on her stomach. The smell of her burning flesh could be picked up easily in the room. What had they done to her? Storm Shadow rushes to her side while I quickly checked around the room for anyone else.

After securing the room, I walk back over to the others. Putting my arm around Scarletts waist as we watched Storm Shadow tend to his sister. Whoever did this was going to pay.

Lady Jaye

I shook my head at the sight of Jinx lying there. She needed medical help and she needed it now. To hell with being afraid that the hospitals had Cobra in it. We would protect her no matter what. I went back into the living room. I had seen a phone on the couch. Picking it up, I punch in 911 but my nervousness and concern for Jinx causes me to hit a wrong button and I hear a recorded voice come from it instead.

I was about to hang up when I realized whos voice it was. Duke. I searched and found a rewind button on the built in answering machine and I gestured for Scarlett and Snake Eyes to come and listen too.

"We are reinstated, be at the base tomorrow at 0800." Duke's voice said. Short but sweet and a welcome statement as we had two injured Joes who needed help.

I looked at my watch. We had less than two hours and maybe even less than that if Jinx was bad.

Looking at Scarlett and Snake Eyes, I said,"Lets get everyone to the copter. We're going home."

Scarlett

My God, Jinx's appartment was trashed. My heart sank. Snake Eyes went to the bedroom door. He looked us..he opened the door and we covered him.

Jinx was inside, moaning. The smell - burnt flesh. I nearly puked. I turned and looked out the window. Snake Eyes came and put his arm around my waist. I leant against him. Looked at his arm. Looked up at him, I wasnt impressed, he knew. He was good at reading my eyes and body language.
Then I heard a familiar voice. "tomorrow at 0800" the voice said.

Lady Jaye rewound the tape and played it fully. Nothing like 2 hours notice after run in with Cobra. We were going home. At least then Snake Eyes and Jinx would be able to get proper medical treatment...and for a little while, we could relax until we recieved orders.

Watching Storm Shadow with his sister, caring for her, a familiar feeling welled up inside. I wanted revenge for what has happened.

We needed to get back to the copter.

Struggling to get Jinx to the copter, she was in pain, and I had nothing to give her.

Lady Jaye and Snake Eyes checked the copter, just to be sure. Last thing we needed was to have malfunctions.

Slowly opening the door of the copter we loaded Jinx in carefully. I smiled at her, "you will be ok hon, we're going home" I said. I held her hand for a bit, then looked at Snake Eyes arm.

I reached for the first aid pack and got a bandage and some clean packs out. I gave one to Storm Shadow. It was a burn, and it was needed to be kept clean. She really needed running water, or anything cold. It wouldnt stop it completely, but it would help.

Looking back at Snake Eyes arm, smiling at him as I uncut what little bandage was left. The blood had started to congeal, a good sign. I cleaned it up, put a new bandage on, and wrapped it up. Kissed him on the nose and told him he was a good patient but needed a shave!
Rested against him, and waited to get back to base.

Jinx...

She felt... not quite herself. She had managed to splash the simple vinegar across her stomach... finally stopping the liquid from eating away at her. Why had he even given it to her? She wondered. The pain was excruiating. She was surrounded... Storm Shadow, Snake Eyes, Lady Jaye... Scarlett... she felt... relief. They had found her.

She couldn't speak. She just let them take her. She heard mention of reinstatement but the pain was all consuming. Someone was tending the wound. She wanted to say something... anything...

"I... I'm okay..." she finally gasped out, gripping the hand she was offerred. Her eyes hardened as she recalled Zartan's face laughing over her. The image burned into her mind. She'd cancel him if it was the last thing she ever did she promised herself.

She didn't look at anyone after that... her mind focused on one thing. Revenge.

Lady Jaye

I unhooked my security device and climbed in the copter. We were going home. The reality still hadnt sunk in. After everyone was in I started the motor and lifted off. I could see the people coming from the buildings we had just left. Their faces were scared and puzzled but I didnt have time to reassure them that their threat was gone.

As we flew to the base, I took a look at the five of us. We were a sight. Battered, bruised, bleeding and injured. I did not think Duke was going to be happy with our reporting status. Then again, we were together again and that almost made it worthwhile. At least we would have the proper equiptment to fight the snakes the next time.

I pushed the copter for all she was worth and then, finally, I could see it-the Joe base. At that moment I couldnt think of anything as beautiful as that sight. I called to everyone to hang on as I flew over the compound and got a better look. Sighting the infirmary, I made a landing just outside of it and our arrival was enough to trigger some sleeping aides to come rushing out.

Closing down the copter, I turned to Scarlett and said,"You and Storm Shadow get the injured into the medical facilities. I will go report to Duke." Getting a quick nod from her before she turned back to Snake Eyes, I jumped out of the copter and made my way to where I knew Duke's office would be. I glanced at my watch...less than half an hour to go. Well, at least he couldnt say we were late.

Baroness

(Uh huh....much)


Most of the men knew that this was a suicide mission. But the ones who knew how to survive would get out safely. I picked up my radio, I flung off the high heeled shoes and slipped into the alley and into the shadows. Pulling on my boots and changing back into my combat pants. I pulled my other guns from the garbage can I hid them in. I snapped the clips together and shifted the weight of the ammo.

"Mission Complete. Any and all Cobras please tell me of your location, use this secured line. Baroness. Out." I darted away from the restaurant. I awaited my men to come out of the building.

Cover Girl

"For you Duke," She smiled at him "Consider all other appointments null and void."

I looked over at the paramedics picking up the body of the late President from the spot where he had landed and then zipping up the bodybag. I shook my head. He was a pretty good President, it was a shame that he was murdered by a damn Cobra.

So much was happening around me. I wanted to go after Baroness, but with all of the commotion, I didn't get to see which direction she went. The main thing was that we were reinstated...and there would be a chance for revenge.

Storm Shadow

As I looked around I knew that the first thing I had to do was get out of this uniform. I walked quickly to the locker rooms and went straight to my locker, thinking myself lucky for not taking my clothing with me as I never thought that I would need it again. After I had a shower I got into my white and grey clothing but left the hood down. After I had done so I looked into the large mirror that was in the room and smiled, I definitely looked better in this.

After I had changed and was comfortable with what I was wearing I walked back to the infirmary to check on Jinx as she was in a bad way. As soon as I walked into the room the first thing that I saw was her laying on the bed in the center of the room with Snake Eyes and Scarlett on one side and Lady Jaye on the other. I walked over to Jinx and took her hand in mine, looked down at her and said, "I will make whoever did this pay."

 

[Ravenloft]

Cobra Commander:

Watching the monitor locked in on Zartan's position, Cobra Commander was just about to go into another violent rage when gun fire came through on the monitor focused in on the Baroness. His gaze snapped onto that monitor and he quickly leaned forward. Under his mask he smiled. "Yesss..." He hissed. "All cobra operatives return to base! And report!"

Zartan:

He knew full well that going back would not be pleasant. He would be lucky to see any pay for months. Still, he went, in the long run he saw it as being the best deal.

Lady Jaye

I walked into the building that held Duke's office. Walking down the hall I was trying to figure a way to explain a stolen embassy helicopter and two injured comrades even before we were back together as a team. Wasnt that going to be a reality check?

With less than an hour to go though, I was pretty sure Duke would be in his office. Nearing Duke's door, I knocked and waited for him to tell me to come in.

Snake Eyes

IC: Watching over Jinx while Storm Shadow made his promise, my hand tightens it's grip to hold Scarletts tighter. The thought of what they could have done to her... It wasn't something I wanted to think about realy. But if they had been able to kill me like planed. Then they could have done just as bad, if not worse, to Scarlett at that cabin.

This was far from the end. And I knew that I would do everything I could to put an end to Cobra for good. Even if it meant me life or death for me, it would end soon for the evil organization.

Scarlett

Looking down at Jinx on the bed, noting that she looks a little better, I thought how easilly that could have been me. When I felt Snake Eyes pull me closer to him, I knew he was thinking it too.
I turned to him, touched his cheek and rested my cheek on his shoulder. Whispering "it will be ok" I kissed his cheek, and smiled at him. I saw the concern in his eyes, but I also saw revenge.

I sniffed. Oh..man I needed a shower. I had just realised I had been in the same clothes for what...24 hours. Yuck.
I check my watch...oh great...15 mins till we have to meet with Duke, and Im smelling like this.

I lean closer to Snake Eyes and sniff. He looks at me. I smile. He doesnt seem convinced. You know after all the time we have been together, he should know me by now. So what I have a slighty cheeky sence of humour.
I grin and sniff again.
"Hon," I said "you need a shower!" He smiled, "you dont smell of roses yourself" came his reply.
I roll my eyes at him. "Charming man you are" I tease.
I peek out the corner of my eyes. I turn and give the others a large cheeky smile and head off towards the shower.

Duke

The ride to headquarters was pretty quite, there was a tension between Cover Girl and myself. I thought she had feelings for me in the past, but now wasn't the time to think of such things. As the taxi pulls into the base, we get out "It feels so good to be home." I tell her, before looking at my watch. "0730, 30 minutes to clean up and get ready for the meeting." I tell her. Scanning the grounds, I see a helicopter by the infirmary, "See if everything is okay over there (pointing to infirmary), and wake Slip-stream. Tell everyone to be in the ready room, I have to do a little research before the meeting." With that said, I head to my office to prepare my welcome back speech, and try to get some information on Cobra's activities.

Lady Jaye

I turned towards the sound of footsteps and see Duke coming down the hallway. I couldnt believe we had gotten here before him.

Stepping up to him, I said,"Congratulations on getting the team back together. I came in with Scarlett, Snake Eyes, Jinx and Storm Shadow. Thats the good news. Bad news is we ran into some snakes on the way and we have two injured. Snake Eyes and Jinx-Jinx is bad. We also have to make arrangements to get a stolen embassy helicopter back to them."

"Other than that we're in great shape!"
