Gardening: Plants, Flowers, Veggies, Trees and All Things Green

Hate that. I saw a bunch of shelled walnuts in the raised bed as I was turning over the soil.

Sure signs of squirrels.

I'll try to get pics tomorrow. Work so busy I haven't seen how garden doing since last week.

Yes, I’ve seen all over the news very bad storms all throughout the Midwest.

Number one, stay safe. Number two I hope your gardens are all OK.

I also planted about 100 sunflower in peat pots.

Tomrrow it’s more pumpkins and gourds.

I've not forgotten to task pics, busy day off and we keep getting these passing showers. Garden going to flood if doesn't stop some.

Look forward to some pics.

I have a bunch of seedlings that I have to thin out. I hate killing them, so I’m gonna transplant as many as I can possibly do.

Haha. Seedlings not siblings. (I love my sisters)

We do have a farmstand where we sell seedlings.

Nerd alert.

This is an American chestnut tree. They’ve been blighted for abt 100 years. So my wife and I joined the the American chestnut foundation.

Our species-saving strategy is a powerful combination of traditional breeding and biotechnology. The primary goal of our scientific research is to develop American chestnut trees with sufficient resistance to two deadly diseases: chestnut blight and Phytophthora root rot.
They gave us chestnuts to plant and our tree hatched! This guy was planted last fall.

My wife is a crazy tree lady. She rescues baby trees from jobs she’s on and brings them to our house or farm to be planted.

Here’s is a red oak. Also abt 6 mos old.

This is a Douglas fir. My wife found it in a customers yard as a tiny sapling in a flower bed abt four years ago. Brought it home and this has tons of new growth. If you’re super nerdy you can see see the Fibonacci pattern in the new growth facing you.

☝️ that is really cool!

What kind of vegetables do you grow in it? It almost looks too small for any large vegetables like tomatoes or anything.

You can definitely grow tomatoes! They are in the top tier. This is a picture from last year. This year I am doing tomatoes, brussel sprouts, bell peppers, peas, and zucchini.. I think I'm missing one but can't remember at the moment 🤔
Awesome Sally!!
Thank you!
