Hard Edge, Sick, Tasteless, or Boring

LOL, an observation I have made over the time I have been here is how ironic it is that those who claim we are not friendly enough, open to everyone, welcoming etc., etc., are the same people who in the same breathe often suggest exclusionary policies such as not allowing posting to continue as it has, necessary changes be made to the wording of posts by those they see as inappropriate, or criticism of those who contribute a lot to the forum on a regular basis and consistently, and the best IMO, the often hinted at need for stricter moderation which again is exclusionary in censoring posts/threads based on personal opinion to present a particular mindset, set of apropriate subjects for discussion, and a box to which all must conform or move on.

No, no -
You're ALL fine, don't worry (not that you were).
You all do your thang.
I really am loving it more & more.

All I'm saying is that there are lots of POVs out there on the net (This can't be news, surely?)
If Lit. looks all hunky-dory to you - GOOD! You've found a home.
My perspective is not your's (obviously!).
So what?
I buzz around forums & MBs endlessly because the group dynamics are always fascinating.
"Group-Think" etc, etc, - all these things are really interesting.
(BTW - Lit. lacks 'Group-Think' so far. What I'm loving is the self-imposed orthodoxy that is developing amongst your 'Vigins' - Watch them yourselves, to 'fit' they all catch the Lit. tone over time. The ones who can't make the grade go all quiet,)
Lovely stuff!

Interestingly, I also visit most of the BDSM - D/s orientated forums out there and find the majority are less tolerant and friendly than this one, rarely welcoming to new people, have very set ideas as to what is acceptable and what is not, and far from open to any opinions or people who play, live, or think outside their POV of what is acceptable and 'right'. Interestingly though, when I do post to these forums, I soon begin to get PM's congratulating me on bringing a more open and informed view of reality and not being silenced by the ruling clique. Also interesting is that they all have censorship, sometimes acknowledged, sometimes secret, whereby posts are deleted or modified without notification and without having the excse of things being mentioned which are illegal, just opinions or posts that do not fit what those with power on that forum agree with or want promoted. At least here, moderation is limited to spam and personals, the latter which is not removed, just shifted to a more appropriate forum.

I feel like I have been blessed in some bizarre way.

Personally I wasn't looking for approval from anyone here at Lit or anywhere else.

But then again, you don't always get what you look for

Gotta say 'Amen X 10' to that.
Lit. is FINE, but this you know, yes?
There are certain worse, FAR worse, places.
I love how 'The Information Super-Highway' (Sounds so old-fashioned now...) just plain isn't & never has been...
All these communities are the constructs of their most dominant posters or the result of some kind of editorial policy by the Mods or owners.
Lit. fascinates because it IS so big. Almost too big. The lack of specialisation makes it sprawl just ever so slightly...
I think you are right, EVERYONE comes into Lit. What I find interesting is that not everyone stays. That is where the 'orthodoxy' appears. Who says that this is a bad thing? I merely say that it is an interesting thing.

Sex Forums & MBs are, I think, the most perfect reflections of the Internet phenomenon.
The subject is so subjective (more than any other?) and yet in playing with it (Just like every other subject under the sun) you get a pecking order emerge. GOOD!
Chances are I may not be a Lit. kinda girl. So what? That means nothing.
What I will say is that Lit. (as a phenomenon) is vital, engaging and... well... just plain fascinating.
Be happy, I like what you do.
Cheer up.

"LOL!" sounds like a piss-take so let me just say that I find your comment really sweet (And - Dear God, let's not debate as to if you intended me to think that or not! ;) ).
What you have here in your forum is a wonderful construct. I'm pseudo-fucking with the edges of it because I'm interested in who comes forward to say what. Some go quiet, some kick back. Some have loyalties to cyber-friends, some think about their own positions first.
You are all FINE!

Show me the forum/MB with different dynamics to Lit. - There are tons with different standards, but the dynamics here are sound and, yes, pretty universal.

I have yet to visit an on-line community who could see their 'difference' (And your 'difference' is what makes you important, btw) and really appreciate themselves for what they were.
... And as I say you are FINE!

I'm kinda blowing my cover here because I'm all done with reading everything & drawing strange diagrams of your relationships to one another.
I really do love what you're doing so I'm going to hang around just because you are genuinely interesting.

Mainly you'll all know this, and those of you who don't should, but Internet Sociology is HUGE. The Internet is the biggest laboratory in the world at the moment. Never think that you are alone chatting to friends. Everything is up for grabs on the web.
Having said that, consider me a friend. I do really respect you all.
And yes I do love smeg. (FWIW)
Jenny.

Edit to add: I am not suggesting any new person should be paying homage to long time posters, I am not wired that way. I do like common courtesy and manners though.

But I am!

Newbies, bow down in homage to me, your Literotica Supreme Maximum Poobah!

The beatings shall commence at once and will continue until morale improves around here. I expect everyone happy and blithe no later than tea time!

Of course not, KC! You are certainly welcome to bow down, grovel at my feet, wiggle your hiney, worship the boots, etc...

I accept worship from almost anyone. *weg*

*gives KC a {{{{HUG}}}} and strokes her hair...tugging a bit of course...* There, there, sweety, you are special! But I am an equal opportunity sadist and play slut, so I am very busy. It's not easy to find one slave who enjoys all of the evil, terrible, painful things I like doing, so I have to "spread the joy" around.

*give KC a playful <swat>* Now stop trying to top from the bottom. If you want your ass beat, just ask! *lol*

Don't you all feel good being part of someone's lab experiment? We're all just white mice for the likes of a few folks/alts here.

Umm can we have just a few choc covered mice too please, I promise not to actually eat them, just lick them a bit and play alittle....honest

You know you could have a lot of fun with this yourselves -
"Alpha-posters", "Network-posters", all the lanuage is still developing so if you get in quick you can make up a lot of your own.
Net. Soc. is nothing compared to what the Psych. boys get up to - If my BS is hard to swallow you'd love theirs, "Comfort-posting" is a favourite of mine.

Pity me, I'm already looking at my next website which has a Gardening forum. Sooner or later I'll have to say that I find the Rose to be an overrated flower. I'll be lucky if they don't shoot me.
At least you guys have an interesting subject to talk about...
 (As always) Jenny.

*WEG*

Screw the Roses, Give Me the Thorns They make great canes for bloodsport!

resorting to potshots at those who don't agree with you... Ah well, as WD pointed out once, the ignore function does seem to clean out the roaches. This being the talk side, anyone may start just about any sort of thread they wish, and judging by the participation in said "comfort postings" we're willing to support those who do it.

Oh C'mon -

Isn't this turn in the conversation I've introduced a real lead balloon?

This isn't meant to be a downer for any of you. I thought I could offer a bit of input that some of you might not be aware of yet.

"Comfort Posting" isn't at all negative. It is hugely comforting & valid as I see it.
The label is someone elses POV anyway. And ALWAYS an outsider's view.

Net. Soc. & Psych. will soon be all over the place. I'm finished with it by October & so I can't resist fucking with it a little.

No Soc. or Psych. geek is going to change the net. The most they will do is pathologise it in whatever way suits their careers (You can tell I'm leaving all this can't you?). Be interested in all this or not. But it IS the world you live in... (Or if not it is the world which surrounds your world)...
Who else is posting on this stuff at the moment?
 J.

No, it's not a downer. It is, however, patronizing and condescending. For that you get high marks.

Thank you Jen, I will wear the label with pride!

Evil_Geoff = an old, fat, balding, ugly, tattooed, pierced, evil, sadistic, hung-like-a-stud-fieldmouse, Alpha Posting, bastard!
