Health Question

I thought WW was expensive to start too, which is why I didn't do the meetings.
But, I've always been able to find WW cookbooks at the library and if you have friends or family who have done the program, they will have the info that you really need. The meetings are basically just for support from what I understand. Really, any plan that encourages you to eat healthy and not just diet temporarily is good.

If you don't have a recipe, go simple. Get some low or sodium-free seasoning (like Mrs. Dash) take a fish fillet and rub it with the seasoning, pan fry it just in sprayed oil (like Pam, use sparingly), steam some broccoli and there's dinner. :) It doesn't have to be complicated to get started. Do the same with a small chicken breast or very very lean beef. You can always stir-fry it all together and have it over minute rice with low-sodium soy sauce.

Depending on your current shape and how your ankle would hold out, an elliptical might be a good idea to check into. Low impact and burns soooo many more calories soooo much faster than a bike. If you've never used one before, balance can be tricky and it might be hard at first. I started out going 5 minutes at a time and eventually worked up to an hour.

playwithlezli, I'm totally impressed - growing your own chickens and turkey! I'm far too lazy to deal with that kind of stuff!! :)

I am a bit of a throwback I am afraid, my gf friends call me Granola Girl, one said I was so granola I was crunchy! I love my country life. :)

Personally I found the meetings to be very helpful, loads of tips and incentive to work to meet my goals (then again I am a bit competitive!) And yes there is a cost, but this is your life and your health, also, maybe it will be less than you spend on coffees on the way to work or junk food lunches? (just a guess not like I know you or anything!)

It's rare I eat out. Mostly I make enough to take to work for lunch the next day. I did speak to my mother about this, who has dropped some weight of her own, and also the cause of part of my problem. She's stepped up as a big motivator to help me with this.

Elliptical? I'm going to have to look that up. I've never heard of it.

I'm proud of myself though. I'm starting to cut back on the amounts I eat and drinking more water and hot tea. I'm not as hungry between meals as I thought I would be.

Where a female that's 30 years old, medium boned, and 5'5" tall should be as far as weight.
I know right off the top of my head that a woman 5.4 should be 130 pounds & that's for a medium boned woman.

I wanted to let you know that I studied Dietetics years ago in college, so if you have any questions feel free to PM me & I'll share the knowledge I've acquired with you :) By the way, don't rely on BMI as your only way of judging what your weight should be because I am also 5' 5" tall & if I were to weigh 125lbs. I'd look good, but would not feel the healthiest. I felt healthiest at 155 & felt great. I could talk for hours about health & nutrition, it's a passion of mine, so PM me & I'll talk your ear off ;)

Sasha :)

I can always use a guiding hand on that. :)

Stop fretting.
Stress is dangerous.

Exercise at least 20 minutes a day.
Eat small portions 3 to 5 times a day of balanced nutrients.
More fruits and vegetables then meats.
DRINK 8 GLASSES OF WATER EVERYDAY!
Try to increase your fiber intake.
Suger is bad.
Sex is good.

Hope this helps.

You don't have to drink literally 8 glasses of water a day, just take in the equivalent, a lot of which is in the food we eat.

I think i read somewhere that they work BMI off 30 kg per meter or height or something.
but it is bullshit anyway. BMI doesnt work for short stocky people like myself. 3 things going against me. 4 even. i'm short, Have big bones, i'm muscley and i have J'lo's bum, only bigger and not as hot :p

but, i felt alot better after going to a dietitian. who has decided on a goal weight for me taking into account my height and body type. and i might just mention that i am close. soo close :p

if you can be bothered making an appointment a dietitian can tell you where you want to be.. but yeah

AA, that does sound good. Only problem is finances at the moment. But..hopefully that'll resolve soon. New job is going well! Just sooooooo tired, lol.

LOL, the BMI, etc.

Good for you, going to a dietitian, they are the only real experts!

You made me laugh about your comment on having JLo's butt, (lots of giggles).

Like AussieAngel says, I think that consulting your doctor or a dietician is the best thing. Also, personally we should see it as having a healthy body weight. Ideal is different for everyone and not everyone's metabolism works the same.

WW is expensive to get started, at least to me. I had thought of using part of my income tax refund on the stationary bike idea. My mom, bless her heart, is coming up with recipes that might help and won't be costly. I can cook, but if I don't have a recipe - it's a disaster in the making nine times out of ten.

Have you checked to see if your health insurance would give you some free classes or reimburse you there? I know mine will give me so many free days in a yr for WW.
