I don't read Chinese, but supposedly this is true:

"The Chinese way to say "blessing in disguise" is 塞翁失馬, which is literally old man loses horse."

That is correct, or at least, one four character phrase for saying that.

There are a number of famous stories in Chinese that contain that exact same lesson.

Interesting. The first time I heard the story it was about a boy who found a horse. The whole village kept saying how lucky he was. The horse ran away. The boy was heartbroken. The whole village said it was bad luck he ever found the horse in the first place. The horse came back with a mare. The whole village was amazed, saying the boy was unbelievably lucky. Then the boy broke his leg trying to break the new horse. The story went on and on, back and forth, good luck that turned out to be bad, bad luck that turned out to be good. On and on. I never forgot it. So much truth in it.

Divine intervention? Indian Hindus ask gods to help Trump

http://bigstory.ap.org/article/73ce...up-india-asks-gods-help-trump-win-us-election

"NEW DELHI (AP) — Donald Trump may find it tough to get Republican leaders behind his campaign, but he's got some faraway fans trying to get the gods on his side.

Around a dozen members of a right-wing Indian Hindu group lit a ritual fire and chanted mantras Wednesday asking the Hindu gods to help Trump win the U.S. presidential election.

While Trump has dominated the Republican primary race to decide the party's candidate for the November election, his calls for temporarily banning Muslims from America and cracking down on extremist groups abroad have earned him some fans in India.

"The whole world is screaming against Islamic terrorism, and even India is not safe from it," said Vishnu Gupta, founder of the Hindu Sena nationalist group. "Only Donald Trump can save humanity.""

There's a Taoist book called Chuang Tzu. In it, he relates the story of a crippled man living in a town. They conscript people to build a wall, many of whom die, but not him. They draft people into war, but not him. In that book, they refer to it as the usefulness of uselessness.

In the same book, they relate the story of a tree too knotted to use for lumber. It provides shade over a temple in the end.

It's a very old idea in China.

A dozen people in India is news? Really?

I'm in China. You can find a dozen people doing anything but agreeing with Trump here. They think he's HILARIOUS.

Who gives a flying fuck about what a dozen people in China think about Trump?

Can you find a dozen people there to loudly criticize their government and encourage others to do so without fear of retaliation?

Citation seeing how that's not remotely how I remember it.

The cow, in Hindu, is a source of food but also a symbol of life. So they shouldnt be killed. But, they don't worship the animal, per se and they dont come back as your brother-in-law either....

Google "rats rule in indian temple"
(i can't link from my shitty phone)
National Geo says it's so.

It's a tribute to the rat goddess, Karni Mata.
Can't make shit like that up.
I can't join a religion that worships a rat goddess.
Ymmv

The Cow yes, you said animals. A cow is a specific animal. I'm aware of how the karmic circle works and it's not entirely untrue that they could come back as your brother in law.

You'd be creaming your jeans and quoting it as a relevant trend if a dozen Chinese people agreed with you.

As for criticizing government, people do so on the internet constantly, using memes and such that the censors don't get, but everyone else quickly recognizes for what it is.

People also do so publicly, and face repercussions for it. Or don't, depending on the current mood.

Privately, they know more about the topic than you do. They also recognize a stupid course of action, and bide their time.

POLL: 45% of Bernie voters say they’re #NeverHillary, 15% will vote for Trump

http://redalertpolitics.com/2016/05...s-say-theyre-neverhillary-15-will-vote-trump/

"Bernie Sanders supporters may be “feeling the Bern” for their own candidate, but nearly half are planning to give Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton the cold shoulder in November.

A YouGov poll released on Wednesday showed that 45 percent of Democrats who preferred Sanders in the primary, do not plan on voting for Clinton in the general.

Supporters of the Vermont senator are extremely divided; 18 percent said they plan on voting for a third-party candidate like Jill Stein of the Green Party, 15 percent would support the presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump, 9 percent were unsure, and 3 percent do not plan on voting at all.

The split on the left comes after months of rising tension between Sanders, the Democratic establishment, and Clinton.

Countless times, the Democratic establishment has gone out of their way to make it easier for Clinton to win, from debate scheduling to endorsements, they’re all in against the Vermont senator.

At the same time, Sanders’ rhetoric against the former First Lady has grown more negative and more aggressive.

On April 7, Sanders even said Clinton was “not qualified” to be president because of her decision to vote for the Iraq War and her close relationship with Wall Street.

Trump should welcome Sanders supporters — the Republican nominee is more closely aligned with the Vermont senator than a traditional GOP candidate. The reality star and Sanders have had concurring criticisms on money in politics, American intervention, and free trade deals.

If Trump could somehow build a coalition of conservative Democrats in states like Pennsylvania, and progressive Democrats who feel disenfranchised in places like Washington, he may be able put Clinton on the defensive in blue states."

Interesting. Probably won't turn out to be how these Bernie voters actually vote, or don't vote, but if it is, can you say President Trump? :D

There was one exit poll in w virginia that showed that 34% of people that voted for uncle bernie would vote for trump in the general.
I predict Trump will be prez.
Bernie has done too much damage to Clinton.
He's been very convincing as to how rotten she is.

No President is decided until Congress certifies the Electoral College votes. If Donald wins the Electoral College, it's going to take Congress a looooong time to certify those votes.

Trump will be the Boaty McBoatface of American politics.

On a scale of 1-to-Merrick-Garland, how long? :D

His supporters now have to vote for the myth of Trump rather than the man. Have you ever seen a candidate backtrack on his positions faster?

As the Republican elite begrudgingly wrap their arms around him, his fans get to watch the "outsider" persona die an agonizing death. The betrayal was entirely predictable, and it is now a thing of beauty to watch them suffer for their ignorance and hate.

Gonna be a fun summer, too. :)

I don't care for his ideas, but his campaigning has an earnestness. I think he ran on his ideology, not "against" the competition.

As a result, his infrequent comments about her have more gravitas.

My daughter lives in West Virginia and voted for Bernie. She's told me she will not vote for Hillary in November. It won't surprise me if she holds to that, but it will surprise me if she votes for Trump.

My son is also a big Bernie supporter, and voted for him in Indiana. He also says he will not vote for Hillary in the general. I'm very sure he will hold to that.

Both kids say they know a lot of young people like themselves who will never vote for Hillary.

I hear a lot of similar statements from the twenty something crowd on facebook. The good news is they weren't likely to vote in the first goddamn place so there is that.
