Hey, gun nuts!

My buddy has a Jap 7.7 Arisaka. I found it sturdy, but not up to the accuracy of the 03 Springfield or the M1. A good friend of mine, a Korean War Marine veteran who died a few months ago, had a very fine collection of 03 Springfields, three of those were National Match Rifles. I gave an 03 away in my youth, and have forever kicked myself in the ass ever since.

How many guns do you currently own, and if you had to reduce the total number to five, which ones would you keep and why?

ETA: I'd like everyone's answer to this, not just Vette's.

My FIL gave one to a dumbass quasi-relative.......I'd have paid him for it...

My dad's M98 Mauser was stolen by a "caregiver" when he was in his last months. I killed a lot of game with that rifle when I was young. It never failed to deliver one-shot performance.

I would like a Thompson machine gun in my unregistered collection.
Shouldn't be too hard to find. They made a million and a half of them.
I don't know, I'd have to count them up. Probably close to thirty.

Hard to say, but one of my National Match M1As with ART scope, a 1911 .45 Colt National Match pistol, a Benelli 12 ga shotgun, a scoped .22 rifle, a scoped varmint rifle probably my .223 Savage.

That's very close to my wish list...I don't have brand names decided yet, but replace the .22 (the .223 can do double duty) with a compact 9mm and it's a near exact match. I like the Ruger Gunsite Scout, though I have yet to shoot one, and I'm still intrigued by the .45/.410 pistols.

Those plus something like a Derringer in .22 short and you have everything you need.

Indeed, the Saturday Night Special.......

Little old ladies need a .25 auto, they need protection, but don't want to hurt anyone.

What about a nice .22 rifle?

and a decent long range highpower rifle

Right...those plus one shotgun, and the list makes sense to me. Well, screw the .25.

I remember a presidential candidate about a dozen years ago saying, "I have more guns than i need but fewer guns than I want."

Nope, gotta have a .410 for grouse about the cabin. A .20 ga for ptarmigan. And a 12 gauge for ducks, etc. Plus, a short barreled 12 ga for big hairy and ugly.

I chose the .22 rimfire in case one needed a firearm in a built up area where noise might be a problem, and ammunition for other rifles might be scarce. In my state a .45/.410 is considered a sawed off shotgun. I had to sell the .45/.410 barrel for my Thomson Contender in AZ. to keep from being caught with it.

Perhaps you live in the wrong state?

I don't remember that. Who was it?

I never knew game birds were so gauge-specific. "Ma! Get the .410! No, wait! It's a ptarmigan! Get the 20-gauge!"

I think I could have killed every ptarmigan I've ever seen with a nightstick.

I still don't understand why you live there. You seem to hate the place. Why not move just across the border or to someplace like NM or NV?

The .410 is just quieter around the cabin, plus, the grouse are treed and easy shots. A .22 would be okay, but the range is too far.

I'm too lazy to carry the 12 gauge up the mountain for ptarmigan now that I'm older.

Ma is not the gun caddy.

Hey, I'm not the expert.

I was picturing the scene on the porch when the critter walked through the yard.

normally, I just let the critter walk through.......

Although, I do need to murder the grouse before they start to eat the spruce needles
