Hey, gun nuts!

They taste like......spruce......
Can't make 'em eat juniper so they taste like gin?
I only hate the politics Pereg. With the exception of our military service, I've spent most of my life here. I've seen it go from "the" place to live to a freedom consuming liberal nightmare. About the time in my life when I could have pulled up stakes and moved quite easily, my folks got sick and I assumed the responsibility for their care and business activities. After they died my little brother became ill and for ten years I took care of him and his wife, assuming their affairs as well until his death a few years ago. My youngest son had a tragic accident which caused me to retire early in order to care for him and see him through a long rehabilitation.

I tell you this not to gain sympathy for my situation, but only to illustrate a series of responsibilities and duties that could tie a man down and prevent his relocation. This is not to say that I do not plan on leaving the state, it's just that those plans have been thwarted to date by circumstance.:)

I totally understand. I wouldn't have left Oregon but for family stuff, and if I did, I wouldn't have chosen Vermont. That's the way families are sometimes, and good for you for being there for yours. It's admirable.

Nothing like an open sheaf of arty impacting on the helmets of the enemy across your front. Try it sometime without GPS. You had to be pretty damn good with a map and compass.:D

Meh we didnt use GPS...we just point a laser call somone up and boom! But we still trained our ass off on the old school basics, equipment will fail you at the worst time right? But you are right, the only thing better than seeing the enemy getting their ass beat is a blackhawk or shithook showing up for exfil.

How many guns do you currently own, and if you had to reduce the total number to five, which ones would you keep and why?

ETA: I'd like everyone's answer to this, not just Vette's.

I personaly own 14 weapons. If I had to pick 5...hmmmm

1)Springfield M1A Match....classic beast imo and one of my truely loved weapons.
2)Colt M1911
3)Rem 700VTR...it's pretty new but I like it, good solid rifle.
4)FN-P90....it's just fun, lots of fun.
5)My little Marlin 22 rimfire bolt action.

For a SHTF, sky is falling situation I would prob grab just 2

1) Springfield M1A SOCOM II, I have it barbied up a bit and its a great compromise between an assault rifle and somthing that can reach out a bit.

2) Glock 21, Hi cap .45ACP with 4 13rnd mags...winning.

I would like a Thompson machine gun in my unregistered collection.

More winning ^^

Is the Rem in .223 or .308?

Also, lmao...I googled the FN and didn't even recognize it as a firearm. I clicked on the wiki and wondered why they had a picture of the action removed from the rifle.

No shotty?

It's the kind of responsibility my generation were raised to accept as a right of passage almost. The last thing my dad said to me before he died was to reach for my hand and apologize for leaving things undone, and to charge me with the care of my brother and his wife. It was like a commandment from God, if you know what I mean. Hard to explain the impact of his words on my own sense of duty.

No, I get it. No one has said it to me, but I still feel that responsibility. We're lucky that all four parents are still going strong right now, but they're all aging and the amount of care and assistance they need is going to ramp up. Lady P is an only child, so we're it for her folks. My sister lives close to mine--tow and a half hour drive for me anyway--so she's got that covered for now, but I can see a time when I'm down there pretty often in the coming decade. I meant to say I'm sorry you lost your brother early.

The Rem is in .308... It is nothing fancny and I only have about 500 rnds put through it but so far it seems to be nothing short of a durable, spot on, no frills bolt action .308. Exactly what I hoped it would be.

The FN is super cool, feels kinda flimsy at first with all the plastic but its a tough little shit, perfect weapon for clearing rooms but anything beyond that and it's just a cool toy. No pic's...I havent had a functioning camera since I broke mine when I moved at the beginning of the year. Vett's pic is one with a lil barbie action, I have an EOTECH holo sight on mine but thats it.

Thank you for the kind words on my brother. Maybe someday I'll tell you his story, he was another Marine.

I do not wish my experience with care giving on you or anyone else for that matter, but you better be ready for it when it comes, because it can be mighty hard these days Pereg. Make sure you have good legal resources available for both medical and financial guidance.
We're well set up for both, in fact, not through any effort, just good fortune. I'm not looking forward to it, but we're prepared.

Every review I've read of the Ruger I mentioned says the same thing. A friend just got one and I'm thinking I might have to offer to buy some ammo if he'll let me shoot it.

Just in case you need to wipe out a nest of terrorists in your neighborhood? I just watched some video and it looks like a cool gun.

I just took the one that Google came up with, accessories and all.:)

On the Model 700, you'd be well advised to replace the trigger with one of these as there's been quite a controversy with a tendancy for ADs.

I've had several 700s, swear by them, but I'm converting mine just the same

Thanks for the heads up on the trigger assy. I will deff look into wtf is going on, kinda spooks me now.

Ahh hell buying your own ammo! How could he not let you shoot it? I love to let others shoot my weapons but I suppose some might not. And yes the FN would deff rock the shit out of a nest of anyting in an urban environment, only downside is ammo, you blow through it at a stupid rate...think of a 249 useing mags without all the feeding problems/chewing up mag.

Here's the latest Factory response to the CNBC program reporting on the Remington trigger problems:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B_KVS1hIbQg

Make up your own mind. I've had two ADs with the same rifle, once with my dad, and once with my son. The first one I attributed to extremely cold weather and a light trigger pull, the second occurred when taking the rifle off safe. Both times the rifle was pointed down range. I took it to a gunsmith who reported a pin out of position and charged me a small fee for the repair. First time, I felt my dad may have touched the trigger in 20 below cold weather. The second time was a few years later with my son when he released the safety while sighting in on a deer. It was cold then as well. That was a 700 in .308. I've never had the problem with any other 700 I have owned. Trouble is if somebody gets hurt, it's too late to say your sorry.

I decided to err on the side of safety and install a new trigger. You should examine all the facts. Remington says the rifle is safe, the engineer who invented the trigger design, said during the interview he tried to warn the company the trigger design was faulty. Who do you believe?

Yea, new trigger asap...I have never had an AD and I don't plan on starting any time soon.

I had an AD from a Chinese-made SKS, once. I dropped the bolt, and BOOM!!!

I unloaded the piece of shit about 2 months later.

Unloaded as in got rid of.

Never liked the AK or the SKS, always considered them cheaply made. We destroyed tens of thousands of them in Vietnam. I have a friend who has and SKS, he can't hit shit with it from the 300 yard line. It's all over the place.

I have a Yugo SKS now which is pretty decent - at 100-200 yards. The 7.62x39 is nigh on in the dirt at 300 yards anyway, even lobbing it. It's just not that kind of round.

Now if only you could make a simple logical conclusion that others may be in a similar boat when they lose a job, or have an abortion, or chose to protest the war in iraq or afghanistan, you'd turn out to be a half-way decent human being.
