Hey, gun nuts!

You missed my point. I was responding to the contention that the right and authoritarianism go hand in hand. I was trying to point out that the left limits personal freedom as well, they just come at it from a different angle. How different is it, really, to say 'youbut can't have an abortion because it offends my sense of what isis right' than it is to say 'but you must hire X number of minorities because not doing so offends my sense of what is right.'

It's still one person imposing their will upon another.

The stock-less Mossberg and the Ranchhand ( the gun the chick is holding) are novelty guns at best. They are meant to be fired from the hip, they do look cool in the movies tough.
I was wondering about that. Something in me says that the 12-ga would be a pain in the ass, and after firing the Winchester a couple weeks ago, I don't want any less gun with that load in it, never mind some freak .500 or something.
I have two guys who work for me who have the .500 handguns. Each has been in a position where they were a millisecond from pulling the trigger to dump a Griz in a DoLP shoot. Once someone's been that close, they want every bit of power they can get to stop that bear. I don't consider myself that handy with a handgun, so I have my 12ga. loaded with a bit of Black Magic from Brenneke. I never really wish to use it other than for practice, now and then.

The big caliber lever rifles pack a huge punch up close. They cost more than the 12 gauge and I'd feel bad banging one around.

That Mossberg is a good serviceable weapon. (I'm about to give a M500 to one of my boys, but with a wood stock and vent rib.) You might want to shoot one with just the pistol grip before you buy it. Magnum loads can be hard on the wrist. I prefer the buttstock, but I'm old fashion. (Plus, it can be a cane if I need it in the woods) And if you're out for bear protection, why would you not have a magnum load?

I guess it makes sense. If it's the last resort before a griz gets there, I'd want a fucking bazooka. What's DoLP?

When I get around to buying a 12-ga, it will have a buttstock. I have no delusions about my abilities with pistols or hacked-off long guns. Maybe a collapsible one or something.

Defense of Life & Property

Mossberg sells a kit (or at least, did) with two barrels, one for hunting and one for protection.

Thanx for the input.

Found what I was looking for on the Johnson M1941-
The biggest disadvantage I found (for combat use) was firing with the bayonette attached.
The biggest strike against it was cost and manufacture time, which was significantly more in both respects to the M1 Garand

The biggest advantage was no tell-tale 'ping' when the clip emptied.

the 500 is not bad if you get a set of pistol grips for it, the pistol foregrip is the one that makes a big diff.

I can't wait to hack this thing up and make a leapord gun out of it...hand cannon from hell.

Ahhh, the urban legend of the deadly "ping".

Democrats cling to their guns

Gun ownership is on the rise in some surprising places. As much as President Obama would have us believe that only small town yokels "cling to guns or religion," a Gallup poll released Wednesday suggests many of the firearms that have been flying off the shelves in the past two years were purchased by Democrats and women. The Second Amendment has truly gone mainstream.

:D

Keep believing the hype.

84,168 pointless posts and counting.

Maybe you should post about operation fast and furious a few thousand more times?

You should be starting a thread complaining about those smelly brown people, as you call them. lil chihuahua.

What do you think of the Marine Corps decision to switch the belt fed M249 SAW for a 20 round clip fed automatic weapon? I think it's a mistake.

The Brits introduced the Minimi to replace the 30rd LSW (longer and heavier barreled version of the SA-80) which did not provide sufficient adequte firepower. The Minimi is not particularly well thought of, and most units try to get as many GPMGs (M240) as possible.

When I joined up a rifle section was seven riflemen armed with SLR (Semi auto only version of the FAL) and one GPMG. When they intro'd the SA-80, we re-orged to six riflemen and two LSWs.

Taking the M249 out to replace it with a modern BAR is a mistake. But the weapon itself does not perform to the same standard as the M240. This is a comment on the weapon not the calibre.
