My FIL insists that there's a difference between a pistol and a revolver. He gives me shit about calling the .38 a pistol. He was Navy, though.

A long time ago, (when I bought my first .357 Blackhawk,) Ruger made a single-six revolver in .30 carbine.

That's a peculiar choice. So cowboys only had to carry one kind of ammo?

Revolver, on the other hand, defines a pistol that has a revolving chamber, generally holding between 5 and 8 rounds of ammunition. Semi-automatics fire a round each time the trigger is pulled, and the recoil force strips the spent round and ejects it from a side port. These are fed from a magazine, and are pretty variable, depending on caliber of the weapon and choices of the user and manufacturer.

...in the picture, the 2" snubby is a seven shot .357 Magnum Taurus M617, the 4" revolver is a six shot Ruger GP100. The semi auto is the Beretta Storm Px4 9MM

That's a belief many folk have, but revolvers were termed pistols back in the 1800's. Wiki says "When distinguished as a subset of handguns, a pistol is a handgun with a chamber that is integral with the barrel, as opposed to a revolver, wherein the chamber is separate from the barrel as a revolving cylinder."

.30 carbine was never a cowboy cartridge.

That top gun is .357? It's tiny. Must be great for self defense.
My Glock, in .40 S&W, is not a large gun but it has very good penetrating power.

Also a revolver does not eject the spent cartridge whereas an automatic does. This point is considered important by law enforcement.

I've heard good things about the Storm.

Field strip is as fast as they come, two pins in the frame in front of the trigger and the whole thing breaks down in 2 seconds, goes together again just as quick. Rotating barrel design works flawlessly. Very light recoil, very accurate for first and following rounds. Yea, I'm a revolver guy that really likes this one, it's light and well balanced, very good grips and trigger pull...mine is double action, very nice in either SA/DA. Safety is excellent design, ambidextrous firing pin interruptor ....

If you watch that gif for ten minutes or more (yes, I did) you get the impression that she has more ammo than an Imperial Storm Trooper.

I absolutely love my Ruger, and Ruger products in general. Very well made, and well worth the extra price you pay to get one. I carry mine for outdoor and backpacking, and can trust it in any kind of mud or yuck to fire dependably, every time.

Just FYI, the 2" .357 is loud as hell, and kicks like a fuckin' mule, which I love... more than the Ruger Redhawk .44 Magnum ... was shooting at a very large range in Plano, TX, and people were actually stopping to ask what the hell I was shooting!

...and yea, I wouldn't mind fingering her trigger, but my breath control is certain to be shot to hell!

Guess the 2" is low in weight. Short barrel doesn't dampen the sound.

Good to know on the Ruger. People at the range always want to know what caliber my .284 Winchester is, too. It's one loud mofo as well.

Believe it or not, it's my best shooting revolver at distance, not just close in. The sights on this gun are amazing, I routinely shoot with it at 20 yards each weekend, and put most of my rounds in a 3" circle. Not the most rugged of guns though, needs a lot of TLC to be a reliable defensive carry. Looking at adding a S&W nightguard for that very reason, plus they are 8 shot...
