My idiot daughters are going to Austin for the City Limits Festival. I told them each separately (after the Mom speech about how foolish that is) to do me a favor and write their social securities numbers somewhere on their bodies (i.e. on their skin) in permanent marker.

I'm sure your girls will be safe there in Austin. I'll keep them in my thoughts and prayers too.
Let us know if you need anything....
someplace said:Thank you! We're hunkered in now. I made one trip out to my ex-husband's shop. He gave me four packages of dry ice, a couple pounds of British sausages, a pound of British butter (I didn't know I was out, and there's a high chance it'll go bad at his place), a bottle of lucozade and Orange barley water plus about a dozen Cadbury candy bars. (Hey! Chocolate is an emergency supply you know!) In return, I helped him move stock from the lower shelves up higher in case of flooding.
I've now got one block of dry ice in the freezer, the refrigerator, and each of my two igloo coolers. I've positioned the cars as best I could: one on the street and one angled in very close to the house. I covered the picture window in the dining room and drew the blinds. I'm thinking about dragging an old box springs from the garage to lean against the sliding glass doors in the kitchen -- that's the only thing big enough to cover that window.
I chopped up tomatoes, green peppers and onions this morning -- putting each one in a zip loc bag and then in the fridge to minimize clean up when the power goes out. I'm going to do some baking in a bit -- cookies and muffins -- get as much cooked beforehand. And I've got to dig out the cards and games to a convenient place, because lord knows when this power goes out there isn't going to be much to do.
I'll keep cleaning as long as there's power. I've got another load to run in the dishwasher. I've been cooking all morning and putting stuff in tupperware in the fridge, so of course, my sink's full of pots and pans.
Sounds like you've got everything you'll need.someplace said:Thank you! We're hunkered in now. I made one trip out to my ex-husband's shop. keiffers said:one add'l thing you should do is fill up any container (even the bathtub) you can with water (you'll thank yourself later on). There was a guy that did this in NO with Katrina and the people that stayed in the house were so appreciative of it, as it allowed them not only drinking water, but something to bathe with and such if water doesn't come on for several days - good luck - it's gotten windy around here in the last few hours, but no where near what will be blowing down your way
someplace said:We're good on the water. It's all under control. Getting windy here, but no rain ...yet.

We've got wind and a little rain now.....Hope y'all are holding up alright.someplace said:We're good on the water. It's all under control. Getting windy here, but no rain ...yet.
We had the same bout of cheering in on our street too. LOL Nothing like cool air.....someplace said:Just got power back. The whole neighborhood cheered at once ...everyone was either outside or had all windows open for air, so you could hear it all over. Pretty funny.
LOTS of wind -- branches and stuff in my yard, including a bunch of roofing tiles (not mine) and I lost part of my gutter in the back, all in all, not anywhere near as bad as we'd expected.
I just want to say that I really love my air conditioning!
Now where's everyone else?
