Getting back to the clique thing. From my personal experience, cliques form in any online forum where people visit regularly and are usually long standing members. I don't know if you can call this a gang mentality or what...shrugs... I suppose there is strength in numbers...chuckles.."Lit swarming" if you will.
If you have been a Lit member for any length of time you can see who is part of this "clique" or wants to be and those "others" who couldn't give a rat's ass.
I also believe it is primarily a female thing (just like in highschool) there is usually a ring leader of sorts and the other lesser/weaker "groupies" who fall in line behind them.
If someone says something negative to a post made by "one who is in with the "in crowd", you can be sure one or two of the others will join in to berate the antagonist and stick up for their buddies. They will never say anything negative about a bud's post. Sadly it happens all the time here. A similar clique stunt is "thread high-jacking"
I think the majority of these females are immature and childish if not completely bored with their lives. Literotica is like a second home to these people and a part of their "weak" identities are wrapped up in these forums. They don't really have alot to offer in terms of experience or knowledge, but they so badly want to belong to something greater than themselves and that is what is most important, not what they say in the post itself.
No-one wants to admit that they are part of a "clique". It's one thing to be accepted as a member of a forum whose opinions are valued and respected (we all want that) rather, it's all the other petty nonsense that goes on around here. Gossipping in PM.s thats rich!...lmao...how friggin' typical.

There was one female (master in tow... note the small "m") who is no longer posting on Lit. (yes people there is a God). Oh yeah... that was one woman I thoroughly disliked (putting it lightly). The atmosphere here changed instantly the moment she was gone. There weren't many people who would disagree with anything that she said...why? only you can guess..fear of retaliation maybe?

Men don't often notice these petty going's on and I'm guessing that if they do they just ignore it.

Incidentally..nice boobs Rose ;)

If someone says something against my friend, I will side with my friend. Especially if I know what was said hurts them. If I don't like what they said/did/wrote, I tell them privately. I won't let them stand alone being 'attacked' publicly. Is this cliquish? I don't know. Seeing how I don't have that many friends in real life, and possibly none online, I don't have the numbers to be a clique.

I don't understand 'clique' as something negative, I'm with Rose on this one. I always thought it meant it's a group of friends, but not the very best friends, just people who like to do whatever together, spend time with each other.
If someone new comes along, sure, it ain't easy to be accepted. But that's life.

I have to ask what would being a newbie have to do with it? I have been posting in Lit. for a couple of years now, so you can't possibly mean me...smirks...oh you mean the 37 posts that "this nick" has..uhuh..37 posts=newbie.

Webster's definition of ringleader: one who leads others esp. in unlawful acts.
(Let's call them negative acts shall we...for posterity's sake).

Rose I used the term "ringleader" loosely. No Catalina isn't a ringleader ...she's "the moderator".

"Personal" attacks are uncalled for and one should be supported by one's friend's in those circumstances (or not) as most people can stand on their own two feet....I think.

chris9.. in the majority of cases "clique" is most often used in derogatory sense. Usually people in the clique also share similar opinions on things.
By looking at the poll results many "other" people feel that this forum is or appears to be cliquish, so I'm not the only one who feels this way.
Don't get me wrong it is only a handful of people here who could be regarded as members of an "alleged" clique. For the most part people who post here are wonderful, intelligent and independantly open minded.
I agree, it takes time for people to get to know you (if you are a newbie here, there or anywhere) Whether or not they accept your ideas shouldn't matter one iota.
I think my point was that there is strength in numbers and there are people here, whether you like to admit it or not, who seem to "gang up" (again, I use the term loosely) on newcomers or people who offer a different point of view on certain subjects different from their own (the staus quo).

This is only my opinion and my opinion has been formed by reading and posting here in BDSM and Cafe over many months. I don't know if the other forums here in Lit. are/appear cliquish as I don't frequent them. I'm guessing there had to be a real reason for Rose's taking a poll on this matter.

FYI and just to support my previous post: according to Wikipaedia.

A clique is an informal and restricted social group formed by a number of people who share common interests - formal social groups are referred to as societies or organizations. Cliques are most notably found amongst groups of teenagers, primarily in high schools and colleges, but also in other similar environments, such as the workplace.

Cliques at times have complex structures, and characteristics tend to differ between one another. However, one characteristic which is common to nearly all cliques is the existence of a defined power structure, generally comprised of a leader (or a few leaders), followers and pariahs.

Hi Miss Rebecca!

 for your boo boo!

We had cliques to a certain extent, back in the day - sadly, we needed them. Let's just say there was a big shitstorm and some of us had to go turtle up under our umbrellas. It didn't help, and there are some folks who are never coming back.

I haven't seen anything even coming close to pretending to even sort-of, kind-of, not-really, even look like something approaching something like that kind of nastiness here lately, which is part of why I've started posting here again.

One poster - who will not be named - said we here in the BDSM fora have some sort of bias against GB folks who come in and post. Not accurate, though I can understand how they came up with that assessment. We have a bias against ignorance posing as knowledge, and in general, we have enough knowledge here to call bullshit when we see it. What supports the "bias against GB people" stereotype, is the stereotype of GB'ers who occasionally post ignorant BS here, and get called on it. It's not an ant GB bias, it's an anti-bullshit bias.

leeroy brings up something too - posts occasionally go ignored. I can honestly say if I ignore a post, there are reasons for it, but personal insult is never one of them. The most common reason for me to ignore a post is because I have nothing to add, or no experience or knowledge needed to address the post, and posting "That's interesting. Can anyone help so-and-so?" is just ridiculous, needless padding of my own post count. If I can't do something constructive, or at least, relatively inoffensively funny, I choose to do nothing.

LMBO You're one of a kind Shank! Thank goodness! Thank you! double checks what red means and  !

I wasn’t going to mention this but the post below has forced me to action. The attachment comes hot off of the Associated Press wire. The article it came from dealt with the FBI’s efforts to root out a particularly nasty gang.

Being forewarned is forearmed.
