How do you feel good about yourself when you hate your own body?

I know this seems like such a little thing to a lot of people but this really was a big step for me. I haven't been out of this trailer except to go to the dentist or to take my father to the store since i lost my job on the 13th of Feb. It's raeally hard for me to go out into a place or situation that I don't know well. But I am beginning to make myself do it. Hopefully one day this will be an easy thing for me.

Do consider moving to a larger community. Unemployment in a small town is a sure-fire recipe for depression.

I live in a small town and I'm unemployed too.....apart from 3 hours a week teaching 2 boys at the school I used to work at. I'm also shy and hate going places alone where I don't know anyone.....I feel panicky and very nervous in those type of situations.

So I started going to free computer classes in the next town (20 mins drive away) three mornings a week. I'm also studying part time by correspondence, trying to keep busy so I don't miss my lover so much (LDR). I go out to a local club one night a week with a friend, which I never did when I was married (left him a year ago). It's taken that long to get any sort of confidence socially. If I go anywhere around here most of the people are married, so I kind of feel like a third wheel...... :(

Good on you Kiki for getting out there.....I know how hard it is. The first time I walked into the club (six months ago) was quite nerve-racking, even though I did know some of the people I'd lost contact with them during my marriage......my ex didn't see the point in going out if he couldn't drink (he had stomach trouble and can't drink much alcohol) so we stayed home, and he had me so much under his thumb that it wasn't worth the hassle of trying to go out by myself. It's taken about three months to feel at ease walking in there alone......

First I want to say, awesome on your great day! It seems like a huge step to me actually. I'm so happy for you. maybe you could do something like that once a week?

and Slicktony, I live in a small town in FL... I do love it here, my parents are close by and it's very very affordable... I am working to get out of debt and then I will more than likely move to a larger city. We have an IGA, a post office, and a convenience store, also 2 churches... We had 2 hairdressers but both encountered problems and moved on.

Congatulations !!!!!

Another step for me. I've been working on this one for two weeks now and it will take a few more before it's finished. I just returned from the dentist. The last of my teeth have been pulled and after a few weeks of healing, I will be going to another place to start work on dentures. It's hard for me to believe but I'm really going to have a smile again.

Southern accent does not equal stupid...

Oh, I hope not! I happen to have one myself. I've seldom been out of the south except:

  • to NYC on my way out of the country in 1971
  • to Philly in 1998 for four weekends on business
  • to Pbgh to visit my daughter a few months ago.

Just outta curiosity, lilpriss, what part of FL is your small town located in?
