How do you make Iced Tea?

 The whole point of making "Sun Tea" is to avoid the heat, humidity and energy costs of heating water to make tea. Depending on where you live, three to four hours is usually sufficient to brew a gallon of Sun Tea, less if you use Lipton's "Cold Brew" tea bags(which brew a gallon in about thirty minutes on pure solar energy.)

I only use 1/2 cup of sugar for one gallon of Iced Tea. I heat one cup of water in the microwave and dissolve the sugar in that and pour the resulting "syrup" into the tea to sweeten it.

of course, if you're out and about a lot, Lipton Iced-Tea-To-Go is very handy. The Tea Snobs and sweetner paraoids will say it's just poison in single serving packets but it sure beats plain water or expensive sports drinks for staying hydrated.

I make up a quart of simple syrup at the starting of summer, I usually add this to the sun tea if company comes because I do not sweeten the whole jug.

I have tried the Sun Tea without heating the water, and find it becomes bitter if I dont. Hmm maybe it was the tea I was using.

I love the Ice-Tea-to-go packets, I buy the apple, and the berry one every week. I think I like them because they arent too sweet.
Even if they will kill me, it will be a slow, slow death!
