Yes, this is a silly thread. But it does have a purpose.

Okay, so all of you "regulars" have noticed there are quite a few newbies...and we're not talking trolls. Newbies who are actually serious about giving out their advice and support, who really do have something to say. This little how-to board has suddenly exploded with them, and this is a GOOD thing.

So, in borrowing a ploy from the wicked General Board, let's try this: A spotlight on those "newbies" who are quickly becoming a "regulars".

Y'all introduce yourselves! And answer some questions so we can get to know you a bit better. "Oldies" can answer to, as long as somebody posts new questions every so often. Fair enough? Okay. So...

OMG !! I love threads like this ones where you answer questions and read all the cool responses...so here goes..
1. what brought me here wasn't the stories I didnt even know about them until after I started posting and people forwarded them to me and I loved them.But why I came was that a friend recommended it said it was like a slow chat and it is fun here but I still love chat its quicker and I enjoy the immediate interaction.
2.My fav hobby is riding...I compete when I can in dressage events..however lately I don't have the time I would like but I will soon....

Of the places I have been so far, it is a 3 way tie between, Sanibel Island, Fla., New Orleans, La., and Monterey, Ca. They all three have key elements, interesting architecture and planning, a waterfront, and a unique sense of place, that is all their own.
8. What is your most wonderful accomplishment?
Having the guts to give up the good paying job, sell the house, and follow my dream by going back to school to become an architect.

At the moment, I suppose it's exchanging email and packages with the friends I've made around the globe. And the occasional, HIDEOUSLY expensive, international cell phone call.

Don't know if this is my favorite, but it's hanging above my desk: "[P]erfection is out of reach, and is, in any case, a dangerous goal."

A conversation I once had with a VERY wealthy person's attorney...I often think it led to the creation of Corbis...but that could easily be pure ego on my part. Corbis - did I help create the monster? (shudder)

5. What is your favorite charitable cause? Why?
The Treatment Advocacy Center. (www.psychlaws.org - there, I plugged it!) Because when you're REALLY insane, you don't realize that you need treatment; and the law regarding mental illness generally makes getting that treatment more difficult, if not impossible. But really, really, why? Because my mom's absolutely, positively, fuckin'-all-out certificable. And I should never have had to deal with it alone.

6. What do you drive?
At the moment, it's public transport all the way.

7. Describe your favorite place in the whole world.
Can't settle on one:
Backstage, or out in the house (or on the set, or in the studio) when it's empty before the show (or the shoot). (Hmmm....and I shouldn't forget the show, or shoot, itself!)
The beach in the middle of the night, the window seat on takeoff and landing, speeding down the highway with the car stereo at 11, Yellowstone National Park.
In the great state of Maine - Monhegan Island, all the way down at the end of the Cathedral Woods trail, past the fairy houses, that bluff overlooking the ocean ... and over near Jackman, the Attean Lake Lodge.

hmmm - I could think of somehting from the show Fat Pizza but that would mean nothing to 3/4 of you here (I'm an Aussie). How about the SImpsons ep where Bart joins the army and the soilder training him in small arms says that since he goes to a public elementary school they will suppose that he fully understands hand guns and pistols and can move on to automatic weapons straight away. I am a big fan of cynical comedy.

another hmmmmm - unfortunately I am fairly straight laced..... Probably that I used to write a bit of erotica and liked to participate in live story building on IRC. How about the weirdest thing I have done - DJ'ing the local gay and lesbian ball and being the only straight one there. Got propositioned all night - but only by the blokes

Salvation army - they do good work locally.

A 2000 Pajero 4WD (Montero to all you yanks) - and we actually use it to go offroading regularly, an ED XR8 Sprint (4 door aussie family car with 200kw 302 windsor power) and a 95 Hallett (Chev 350 powered) inboard ski boat.

I came for the stories. Started looking at the "How To" board (still the only board I read) to try to find some hot tips for a romantic weekend I had planned. I've stayed because I quickly began to feel like I knew many of the regulars.

Backpacking--the further away from civilization, the better. Spending a lazy autumn Saturday watching college football is a close second (GO SOONERS!)

I have two. The second? The day I realized I was in love with him, feeling the urge to run as far as fast as I could, but deciding to stay and take a chance. Not an easy thing for me. I collect guitars, and I can spend hours searching for one. I crochet and quilt while watching television, which isn't very often. I also like racquetball.

Weirdest? Ummm...I'm the oldest of nine kids. And out of those nine kids, there are three sets of twins. Yeah, I know. Scary.

A couple...mostly, St. Jude. And the Angel Clinic, which gives free medical care to children whose parents cannot afford insurance yet do not qualify for a government plan.

Ah...I love cars. 1975 Mustang convertible. And a seriously non-descript sedan. If I'm not in one of those, I'm riding the Harley.

It's a toss-up...Old Silo Overlook in western Kentucky; Ground Zero Blues Club in Clarksdale, Mississippi; this little bar down in Key West that holds the greatest memories; or watching him play guitar when he thinks nobody is watching him at all.

#1 A fellow litster and friend of mine showed me the boards. We both have the same interests.

#2 My favorite hobby is bowling. Working out at the gym is a close second followed by traveling.

1. Somebody mentioned it on another board. Looked only at the stories first, but then I found you guys. I very rarely read the stories any more, unless I am interested in a particular author. Yes, that would be YOU, little miss Sheath!

2. Oh gosh, about anything having to do with the needle arts, but particularly, quilting. And I've had to learn to like sports since I have a husband and a daughter who are terminally interested in them.

3. My favorite quote is from "A League of Their Own". Tom Hanks' character says about baseball, "Of course it's hard. If it were easy, everybody would do it. The hard is what makes it great!" I love that movie.

4. The sign would say, "Home of the Mother of the Athlete of the Year 2002. (She was a softball shortstop, my little shining star. )

Personality-wise, I guess I'd have to say my wiseass sense of humor. There's very little in life that I can't find something to laugh about, especially myself.

That's easy. I already don't drink much. It generally tastes funny and it gives me killer heartburn.

S...who loves Mustangs, Harleys and big ole trucks.

So does my husband, well the mustangs anyways. i think he would love the 69 Mach-1. He used to have a 99' 35th anniversary, limited edition, til i wrecked it last march, ironically enough that's the reason i don't drive a whole lot anymore.

There weren't that many of that particular year made from what i understand.
