Hurricane craziness

Current best guess has Rita hitting west of us. If that projection is accurate, we'll stay. But really, it could go any which way at this point. Have to watch it over the next 24 hours.

Hang in there babe.

So the local news says they still don't know. Best guess is still pretty far west of me, which leaves me on the eastern edge (not a great place to be). We'll tomorrow afternoon if we need to evacuate. I have the great misfortune of needing groceries tomorrow morning, which means that whether we stay or go I have to brave the craziness of stockpilers tomorrow. (don't worry, tho, I'll be doing my own stockpile of batteries and canned goods, just in case).

Fuck. Such a pain. I'm under voluntary evacuation. Schools are closed the next two days. It still doesn't look like it'll hit here. Or that close to worry us, but everyone is freaking out.

And just try and find a hotel room somewhere. Ain't happening.
The plan at this point is to stick it out unless it turns toward us, in which case we'll leave tomorrow, headed somewhere.

Head East. :rose: I have a big front porch and a carpet.

SJ -just be safe love, people have offered their help, I'm sure you could find somewhere to goif needs be.

Praying for those who'll be affected!

Sophia,

Okay toots, I just turned on the TV for the first time today and was smacked in the face with Hurricane Rita being a Cat. 5 with sustained winds of 165 with the strong possibility of growth in the next 24 hours. Galveston is under an evacuation order. Now my last piece of advice, if you are along her track leave now. Grab the kids, some food and water as well as any pets and load the car. (Don't forget the important paperwork and certainly don't forget the things for the kids.) Once the car is loaded get the hell out of there. Do not pass go, do not collect $200.00 just get.

I worry about you as I worry about all of my friends on the path of storms, I don't want to hear about you in the news because of this storm. (Unless of course it's for something fun and interesting.)

Thanks, Cat. I've got the weather on. I'm going to try to talk ex into leaving late tonight and driving through the night (when hopefully there's less traffic). I'm not in as much risk as Galveston, but still Cat 5 is scary shit.

Evening Abs. I'd heard you had a big front.

Look after yourself and yours Sophia.

I'm tired.
They're telling us now not to go west and not to go to Dallas. So basically, leave the state if you're leaving.
Who lives close to Texas to the east? Anyone? lol

I'm beginning to understand why so many people stayed behind with Katrina.

I'm in Alabama, and we have an extra room.....it's a long drive, though.

We have family in Alabama, and then we just realized we might not be able to get through to them because of Katrina damage to the roads.
If you're not supposed to go west or north and you can't get to the east, wtf do they expect you to do?

Forgive me, everyone, for my endless ranting here. I'm just frustrated.

Why are you being told not to go west? That doesn't make any sense. I would think San Antonio and Austin would look really good right now, for starters.

It's okay. Why we are here - support group and all.

Looking at weather maps, you can't go west or you run into the storm. You can't go East and be assured of hitting cleared roads (as you pointed out). How about due North until you find shelter and higher ground to wait it out, then home if there is no damage?

I don't know. Earthquakes I've done - but not hurricanes.

If you stay to the middle/north parts of the states, you should be fine, but not sure which interstates you would take from where you are.

I'm not much help - I'm sorry. :(

Hmm, it's my understanding once it hits land, the hurricane loses steam, so San Antonio would probably be spared. There's also Laredo, and Dallas is pretty damn far from the coast.

They're expecting Cat 1-2 type Hurricane weather to hit San Antonio and Austin. Earlier today I heard the same thing about DFW. They're advising everyone now to go due north. A normal two hour trip is taking four hours if you leave right now, and that's just with voluntary evacs. Who knows how bad it will be if they switch to mandatory.

The closest interstate to us is I-10, which I think is closed in LA, isn't it? We'll make a decision tomorrow early morning at the latest, because we won't really be able to leave after that (at least not if we want to actually get somewhere).

yeah, 10 is closed through Louisiana, but if you could make your way to 59 in MS, then it would carry you northwards, through B'ham, and straight to us. :)
