Don't distract her, she has fleeing to do.

Remember all those people evaculated from the Superdome to Houston?

This thing is heading right for them.

You don't suppose just one person there has really, really bad karma?

Seriously, prayers and concerns for everyone.

There was a guy who lost his house in San Francisco's Marina District in 1989's earthquake. Took his insurance money and bought a house in the Oakland Hills. Lost his house there in the firestorm there the next year, and gave up on the Bay Area.

He bought a house in Northridge, California.

And lost that house in an earthquake in 1994.

Like that big guy on LOST. With the numbers.

I'll let SJ do what she has to. I just miss her.

Don't watch Lost, but do have last night's premiere on tape.

Please explain.

Long unfinished story. But the skinny is: this guy won the lottery with a series of numbers. (can't remember them now, starts with 4,....) Ever since when ever the numbers appear (and they do often in his life) something bad happens to him and those around him.

Just one of the myriad puzzle pieces on the show. Last night's premiere had lots of them.

okay, that explains why he yelled stop when he saw the serial # on the hatch.

I watched a few minutes of the beginning.

Only just got in, people.
Anyone know if SJ has got out yet??
My brother lives in Alvin, around 30 miles from Galveston and after initially saying he'd sit it out, called this morning to say he was leaving first light, after boarding and sanbagging the house, taking everything valuable in his truck, and moving 100 NE.

Just watching the evacuation of Houston on the BBC News. Terrifying.

My thoughts and prayers go with every single poor soul affected by this.

She was packed up and heading out a few hours ago. Hasn't been posting so we're assuming she got out. Said she'd call Logo or somebody else to report.

You're in my heart, Sophie.
You and the kids and your ex, all placed firmly there.
Tomorrow's fresh start will get you out of town.

Love,
-L.

For those who have seen the gridlock on tv, here's what happened:
Everyone is super cautious because of Katrina. People who didn't really need to leave Houston decided to leave which caused huge problems in Houston. Hundreds were literally stranded along the roadways and ran out of gas, which of course intensified the problems there.
Alot of Houstonians and folks from Galveston decided to head east (my way) but at 6 this morning we were issued a mandatory evac order. I left at exactly the time issued for my city, and in four hours we had gone 7 miles, most of that in the first ten minutes.
At noon we decided to try alternate routes out of town. We managed to get about ten or twenty miles north of town (the direction we needed), but eventually policeman turned us back. We had the option of going back to where we had started or going to Houston (which as I just mentioned was worse than where I was). We went back and spent the next four hours trying again. Eventually, we gave up and came home. By the time we got home they had FINALLY decided to turn the south bound lanes to contra band (north bound) lanes, but by then there were literally at least twenty miles of two and three lines of cars not going anywhere.
I hope two things happen tomorrow. They leave the lanes all open to go north and they let people use other roads besides the one. Today was a nightmare, and it was compounded by us knowing we needed to leave but feeling so helpless to do it. We left when we were told, we followed instructions, and then they restricted us from getting anywhere.

We're leaving about five in the morning. I hope we get out of town this morning. For those who don't know, I live near Port Arthur/Beaumont. Local predictions appear that Rita will be a fairly close hit to us. I hate to say it, but I hope she turns. Because if she stays on track for PA/Beaumont, I won't have a home in a few days. :(

I'll be online a bit tonight, and I'll keep in touch tomorrow or Saturday as I can. Based on today, we may or may not make it to our destination tomorrow. Right now the goal is just to get as far north as possible.
Thanks to everyone for the concern and well-wishes.

I'm so sorry, sweets! You must be exhausted on top of all the stress and worry. Please stay safe and check in with us when you can.

Exhausted doesn't begin to describe it. There was a point in the car where I just started sobbing because it all was so overwhelming. When you have three young children and are trying to protect them, but can't, it's very frustrating. As many people as left today, we have some hope that we'll be able to get out tomorrow.

I wish I could give you a big snuggly hug and tell you to cry it all out.

Get as much rest as you can tonight so you can start fresh tomorrow. Stay strong for the little ones.

You're on our minds babe. Chin up. :rose:

SJ -You are firmly seated in my prayers, I cannot imagine what you're going through right now, but you'll get through it love, I know you will *hugs and kisses*

*hugs* I've been worrying about you all day, Spanky Jane. :(

That's it, I'm pm'ing Manu, we need our own AH helicopter for emergencies.

Thanks for the concern everyone. Please keep prayers and well wishes coming. I couldn't sleep so I've been repacking the car. We'll be leaving here shortly to go north toward Oklahoma where my family is. I'll check in as soon as I can because I know some of you are worried. And I really appreciate that.

Kisses to everyone.
