I’m so old I remember…

Sitting in the last seat of our new station wagon (with faux wood sides) where it faced the rear of the car and you would wave to the drivers behind us.
We had a family from New Jersey move into out neighborhood they had that kind of station wagon. If somebody was tailgating his mom would ask the youngest son the give the driver the finger.

...I remember going across state lines to purchase fireworks.. I remember my brother having me tie together numerous packs of fireworks (due to my smaller hands.) And I remember watching him destroy origi al Transformer figures with said fireworks.

Regular leaded gas costing $.65 a gallon
I remember during a 'gas war' the Hess station across the street from my sister's home stopped selling regular and was selling premium at $0.329/gallon. That in a state where the per-gallon road tax was considered relatively high. Probably was around 1971. That would be about $2.55 today.

I also remember the first time I paid ~$2.00/gallon for regular upon arriving in Los Angeles. The car rental agency had stiffed me by not pre-filling the tank, and it wasn't convenient to return to the airport. Fortunately I was on expense account. Probably was around 2003. That would be about $3.42 today.

Everyone complains about inflation, but in reality many/most prices have been reasonably stable. Housing might be an obvious exception, but guess what -- demand keeps increasing because the population keeps growing. US population in 1960 was approx. 180 million. It's upwards of 330 million today. That's a much slower growth rate than the world population though -- 3 billion in 1960 versus 8 billion today. Whatever happened to Zero Population Growth?
