I am Music

everything dwells in shadow
like
precious words
of
forever and
a
day
yet
your
time piece crushed
its gravity
flesh falling
in time lapse wormhole
pieces of wasted

How weird. I was looking at the same. "Walking the Line" has been on the tv this past week and that's what made me check out John.

I still have yet to see this movie. Odd considering how much I love the music of Johnny cash. Still, I was glad to see it come out, as it introduced more people to one of the all-time greats in American music.

And I remember an anecdote regarding that song. The way I heard it, Trent reznor was unhappy that Cash covered his song. Then he heard Johnny's version and just shut down. Cash nailed that song, and nailed the emotion behind it even better than Reznor did in the original. Or, as Trent said, 'It's Not My Song Anymore'

That's pretty close on what Reznor said, but he felt honored, not unhappy about the cover of his song. According Wikipedia on the Cash's cover of Hurt, Reznor had this reaction:

Reznor said that when Rubin was first asked if Cash could cover his song, he was "flattered" but worried that "the idea sounded a bit gimmicky." He became a fan of Cash's version, however, once he saw the music video.
“ I pop the video in, and wow… Tears welling, silence, goose-bumps… Wow. I just lost my girlfriend, because that song isn't mine anymore… It really made me think about how powerful music is as a medium and art form. I wrote some words and music in my bedroom as a way of staying sane, about a bleak and desperate place I was in, totally isolated and alone. [Somehow] that winds up reinterpreted by a music legend from a radically different era/genre and still retains sincerity and meaning — different, but every bit as pure. ”

Personally, I like both versions of Hurt. Each have merit and different meaning behind the song even though the lyrics are the same.

I too agree ...as to the end ...everyone goes away in the end.....such depth, and his
courage to let us inside that degree of personal insight...touching and
heartful...thanks for the lessons of letting ....hurt....know...:rose:

I was out driving for work today, and was far out in farm country. The air was warm but a cool breeze surrounded me. The sky was gorgeous, wide, and blue, and flecked with puffy white clouds. I drove past the farm where we got MIS her kitten, and it all just washed away. For just a little while, work went away, money, time, distance, and all that worrisome mess just floated off. I looked around and marvelled at how beautiful it all was.

Moments like this make my non-believing soul opens its' eyes and think that there might just be a god, and, if so, she is the greatest artist ever. And then this song came on over the radio.

I am Music. And, for just a few minutes, I was that song.

I wanted to share that moment with my friends here :rose:

Thanks, Hommie, I love that song, and I love the way this guy's doin' it. But (always a dark cloud in Miami), as a writer and a musician, it always kills me when a guy covers a song and gets the lyrics wrong.

I do love the rendition, but Here's the words sung right...

a lil' bit country.....(tinted with the blues)

Dixie Chicken

Somethin' To Talk About

a lil' bit rock n' roll...

Sympathy For The Devil

Fame

Oooohhhhh, Sassy, Little Feat! Yayyyyyyyyy

Eh, artist's preogative, I guess.

I was never particularly crazy about David Bowie, but I really like this song. And he, gosh darn it, looks so delectable here that I just might reconsider my sexual orientation.

At least briefly.

OK, done.

He does look good, though. And he's rich. But then, so's Renee Fleming and, oh my living God, she is like my fantasy birthday cake. Whipped cream, champagne (this is opera, you know), and a rich glucose IV drip all mushed together in some classical music centerfold milkshake.

Or something.

Yes, as a matter of fact, that is my tongue there on the floor. Sorry. Please don't step on it.

Anyone Mick Jagger would do is at least worth consideration.

I beg to disagree, monsieur. I wouldn't have done Bianca on a bet. (Yes, I know. Bad picture. Just making my case.) And even Jerry Hall (See? More friendly picture.) is not my Cup of Tea.

Now, if we're talking about the young Marianne Faithfull, or even the rather older Marianne Faithfull, well, we have something to talk about.

Oh, yeah. She sings, too.
