I am Music

I have all of her CD and DVD's. I am waiting to see her in concert. We could start another thread just on her work.
Have you heard anything else by her?

thing I would add is Delovely...she was connected with the Cole Porter flick...:)

I own that movie, but have yet to watch it. I thought it looked interesting when it was in the theater. I will watch it soon. Thank you.
I know she is on some other soundtracks including "True Crime' with Why Should I Care?"

Oh this one made me shed a few tears. Levi Stubbs died today at the age of 72. The Four Tops were a big part of my formative years. I can remember going to my first dances and dancing to their music. Levi had a voice that was like a force of nature.

RIP Levi :rose:

Thanks for this post, Ange. I hadn't heard. I know he hadn't been performing with the group for a while now. I'm guessing due to health, as the last time I saw him with the group, he seemed visibly weak.

I love these guys (and the Temps). I always get huffy when people insist they can't tell the two apart. :D AS IF! Call it neurotic groupie-esque devotion.

I have this photo, bordered and framed on my wall, along with a bevy of other Motown acts

I hadn't heard either until I saw a post about it on the GB. I read that he had cancer and was pretty ill for over a year so that explains the last time you saw him. I saw the Four Tops about a million years ago at a place in NJ called the Lambertville Music Circus (saw a lot of great bands there). Stubbs seemed like a genuinely sweet man and lord knows he had a brilliant talent in that voice. I liked the Temps, too, how could you not, but Levi's voice always made me prefer the tops. And he rocked the house as Audrey II in Little Shop of Horrors. He's singin with the choir now. :)

I had no idea that was him in Little Shop...
It's been many moons since I saw that movie, and even then, I don't think I was paying very close attention.

Yep, and once you know it's him and you listen it's so obvious. :D

I'm pretty sure he was just in the film though. I don't think he did the plant's voice when it ran on Broadway. That would have been cool, to see him do it on B'way.

Excellent set, but you've left out my favorites, Angie:The thing people might forget is that this is at the height of Beatlemania.

It warn't just the Beatles and the Stones, people. There was some simply excellent American pop music, too.

My favorite 4T song of all time. :)

Ain't No Woman... is a close second for me.

that bitch...

Shame on you. You're feeding my Laura Linney fantasy.

I've already voted, by the way.
You are, um, showin' your bias, Ms. A. So let me do as well. Here's my favorite. I've never seen anything quite like that before.

But whatever. Some of you likely feel differently. Go vote, in any case.

I know I'm biased. I also know I have the correct bias, of course, but if anyone wishes to disagree with me, there's a whole forum here where they can. Poetically or otherwise.

And yes I saw that clip which is nothing short of stunning, eh? But there are so many now that leave me speechless. There's something about that quote on Putin's head entering US airspace that fascinates me with it's surreal connotation. Makes me think of Zardoz. Putoz.

You know, I thought she was wrong about that "you can see Russia from Alaska stuff," but apparently you can, if you stand in the right place, in the right weather, which is rare but might happen.

You probably won't see anyone on the other side, though.

I originally said a lot of other things, but have excised them. There are, I'm sure, people here with very different opinions about politics than mine. Let me merely say that I continue to be kind of dazed that Governor Palin could very possibly be our next Vice-President. Dazed and confused, actually.

Like a music thing. Like.
