I am Music

Not heard either of those before and liked the second one the best thanks for sharing

Glad you enjoyed the Sigur Ros. As for the Imogen Heap, that really is not one of the better examples of her music just the one that was kicking around my head today. You might want to give this one a try..it's one of the first I heard from her and remains my favorite. Still makes me pause and gives me shivers when I hear it. (wow. I talk wayyyy too much. Sorry .)

Aghhhhhhhh I get this from that link 'This video is not available in your country due to copyright restrictions'!!

~~

I get that often when I try and click links in IM's. Try pasting it into your browser instead (watch out for gaps) and if that fails...at your leisure do a search for Imogen Heap~Hide and Seek

Miles Davis's landmark album Kind of Blue turns 50 today.

I hate to say it, but that's still younger than me. Here's a live version of So What? from the album (though with a different lineup).

That's a great link. I didn't even realize it was the 50th anniversary of Kind of Blue. I'm feeling really dated too because I think that may be the most recent progression in the sound of jazz that I really like. I'm only 50 years behind the times!

I saw this today and thought of you, that you would dig it, too. These guys working at the MLB archive may have the best jobs ever (even if it is in Seacaucus lol). The archivist has a mind like a computer. :)

And it still sounds fresh

Kind of Blue is one of the albums / CDs I suggest for newbies. Still sounds fresh even today.

The alternate version of Flamenco Sketches is my favorite from this gem

As a bit of trivia for you, John Coltrane's Gaint Steps was record within two weeks of Kind of Blue

Is that the last cut on the album? That alternate version? I could check but I think it is and if so it's my favorite piece on that album, too. So what is marvelous also but I've heard it about a gazillion times so maybe I need a bit of a break from it now. I didn't get into Miles until relatively recently, maybe five or six years ago. In fact I've always loved Roderigo's Concerto and never knew it had been transcribed (if that's the right word) for trumpet and jazzified in Sketches of Spain, but fell in love with it when I did. It sounds like Spain. Miles is a genius, but we knew this, right? :)

Yes, last track on the CD that I have.

Right on with Sketches of Spain. I so dig the bass clarinet and french horns. If you enjoy this album, you should check out Mile's Progy and Bess. Prayer (Oh Doctor Jesus) makes me cry.

As another suggest, may I suggest Turtle Island String Quartet's cover of On Green dolphin Street? Towards the middle, you will find a 'Spanish' riff http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WIXiWwl3ysM

BTW, I'm digging your mingus link

That Mingus link is marvellous, isn't it? I've found so much great jazz on Youtube and there's new stuff on there all the time. Lol, new old stuff. I had a link to MJQ's True Blues there for a while that is also really great, and the best version of Blue Moon I've ever heard (of course Billie Holliday and I'm not sure but I bet that's Ben Webster on tenor). Anyway, funny thing. A few years ago in a discount rack of cds I found a Japanese import of the Miles' Porgy and Bess. And I love Miles and I really love Gershwin (and it was new and something like 6.99, woot), so it was pretty much a no brainer. His Bess You Is My Woman Now makes me tear up. So yes I do understand.

I had a long, intellectually rigorous argument as to why I fully, completely (yikes!) like understood these comments and was willing to move forward into a New Green World where happiness was the Right of All Citizens.

Then I hit the wrong key.

Oops.

Well, I refound Carlos playing Miles. Whatever one thinks about it, it speaks to how musicians love other musicians.

The audio sucks, big time. Not my fault.

I saw some interview with Horace Silver once where he talked about his love for Prez and how the old Prez influenced him. He practiced Lester a lot when he was learning. I never would have figured that out and I like Silver. People say they hear Prez in Miles, too, and I guess I sort of see it, the cool thing and all.

I am being particularly stupid lately, so I will merely post this: Birdland.

Weather Report, loving Bird, in memoriam Joe and Jaco.

Sometimes I talk too much.

Good Goddamn. That's beautiful. It made me remember how John Lennon's was the first voice that made my thighs tingle. Age 12, Come Together . . . *sigh*

Yeah, his voice just goes all through me. I love me some Lennon. And lord he would have been seventy next year. That's um astonishing to me. Cause I remember.

He doesn't have a lyrical kind of voice like Paul, but it's so strong and honest. And it's a great rock and roll voice. Lol, I'm getting myself excited. I may need to post more music. But what's with all the people at the end of the Yer Blues video? Are they Baggists? Practitioners of Bagism? Yoko's army? :)

Can someone remind me how to put a link in here? All I can do is the URL...
