Psychologist 'beat, forced patient to wear dog leash'

A Perth court has been told a psychologist made a patient wear a dog leash, beat her with wire and sexually assaulted her in what he claimed was legitimate treatment for an eating disorder.

Sixty-four-year-old Bruce Alistair Beaton is on trial over his treatment of a 22-year-old woman who had bulimia and anxiety.

Prosecutors allege that during treatment sessions Beaton told the woman she had to be his slave and then made her wear a dog leash and beat her with wire and a cat o'nine tails.

It is also alleged he performed sex acts on her, but Beaton has denied any wrongdoing.

His lawyer told the court the woman had a multiplicity of problems and the defence challenges her version of events.

The trial is set down for seven days.

Patient 'made to wear collar'

A LEADING Perth psychologist forced his bulimic client to wear a dog collar, sexually assaulted her and whipped her with a wire coathanger and cat o'nine tails, saying it was part of a new treatment, a Perth court was told yesterday.
Bruce Beaton, 64, was arrested after police set up secret recordings of him with his 22-year-old alleged victim on the phone and placed a hidden camera in the woman's bag during one of their appointments.

The District Court was told yesterday that police, waiting outside Mr Beaton's office in 2005, intervened after hearing whipping noises coming from inside. Mr Beaton, an expert in treating patients with eating disorders, has pleaded not guilty to allegations he sexually assaulted and humiliated the patient in 2005 during a number of therapy sessions.

Giving evidence yesterday, the woman, now 24, said Mr Beaton told her bulimia was about control and she needed to learn discipline.

"I'd have to obey every order that he gives and present myself the way he says," the woman said.

She said she was often told to take her clothes off during her therapy sessions but when she refused to remove her underwear she was beaten with a wire coathanger. She said he had asked her about boyfriends, relationships and her sexual fantasies.

Prosecutor Amanda Forrester said police became involved after the woman made a complaint, the day after being forced to lie naked on a couch in Mr Beaton's Fremantle clinic, where he performed sex acts on her.

The trial continues today.

Court shown video of alleged whipping by psychologist

A video has been played to a Perth court, showing what is alleged to be a psychologist whipping a 22-year-old patient during a treatment session.

Bruce Beaton is accused of sexually abusing the woman, who had been referred to him for treatment for bulimia.

The woman secretly recorded one of the treatment sessions after going to police and the video was played to the jury today.

While little can be seen, Beaton is heard asking the woman to be his submissive.

She then reads an oath he gave her in which she says she will give him her body.

Beaton then says he has made a new whip for her and beating sounds can be heard, before police burst into the room and say they want to talk to him about his conduct with the woman.

Beaton has denied any wrongdoing.

The trial is continuing.

Psychologist whipped woman, court told

A Perth psychologist repeatedly whipped a woman client he called his delicious submissive, a court was told today.

Bruce Alistair Beaton, 64, of Fremantle, is on trial in the West Australian District Court charged with unlawfully indecently assaulting a 22-year-old woman at his Fremantle practice between January and March 2005.

He has pleaded not guilty to four counts of indecent assault and one of aggravated sexual penetration.

The jury at his trial today watched a police video of a March 18, 2005, appointment between Mr Beaton and his client, taken after officers put a hidden camera in her bag.

On the tape, Mr Beaton asks if the woman wants to be his submissive and she is heard swearing an oath to give him her body in order "to become a better person".

The woman, now 24, can be heard asking her psychologist if this would help her bulimia and Beaton says he does not think so.

Mr Beaton then says: "If you were my submissive then sometimes I'm going to enjoy you".

"I think you're delicious and from time to time I'm going to have a taste."

He reveals a pink cat of nine tails, saying he made it specially for her.

The woman says: "It's a bit scary looking," before the sound of a whip cracking 12 times is heard and police then enter the room.

During later questioning in court today about the incident, the woman said she did not want to be Beaton's submissive or be whipped.

"(The pain) was like being beaten with a rose stem thing, the thorns," she said.

Beaton's lawyer Jeremy Scudds accused the woman of being a habitual liar.

She acknowledged lying about travelling to Melbourne and going to an eating disorder clinic in Brisbane, but rejected claims she was putting on different personalities in court to play up to the jury.

She also admitted to lying about her drug use, telling the court she had once stabbed, with a beer bottle, a former boyfriend who got her addicted to heroin.

Asked if she was a vengeful person, she said: "If someone fails me".

Mr Scudds put it to her that during their treatment sessions Beaton had been talking to her about her violent sexual relationships.

He said she owned a whip, the dog collar and other items, such as handcuffs, school uniforms and a paddle and Beaton had asked her to bring them in to their sessions, Mr Scudds told the court.

The woman initially denied it but later admitted getting a whip for her 18th birthday.

The trial continues.

Police 'caught psychologist whipping patient'

A LEADING psychologist, accused of using a bulimic client for his own sexual gratification, was found whipping her with a cat o' nine tails when police stormed his clinic following a covert operation.
In extraordinary visual and audio footage played to Perth District Court yesterday, police officers are seen bursting into Bruce Beaton's office after the crack of a whip is repeatedly heard.

Mr Beaton, 64, has pleaded not guilty to sexually assaulting and humiliating the 22-year-old woman at his Fremantle office in 2005.

The police sting involved the woman wearing a bug and placing a secret camera in her handbag. Telephone conversations between the pair were also secretly recorded.

The woman, now 24, was seen on the footage having a dog collar placed around her neck. Later, Mr Beaton tells her "I made a special whip for you".

At one stage, Mr Beaton tells her they have work to do before moving on to other activities. "Work first, play after," Mr Beaton said. He later tells her that he loves her and asks if she wants to be his submissive.

"I think you're delicious and sometimes I'm going to have a taste of you because you're my submissive," Mr Beaton says to her.

After asking if it will help her bulimia, Mr Beaton can be heard saying no, but that it would be him enjoying her.

After the "special whip" is retrieved, police officers, waiting outside the clinic, are seen storming the room after hearing the whipping noises.

The court has previously been told that Mr Beaton told her wearing a dog collar and being hit with a metal coathanger were part of a new treatment for bulimia.

She said police had given her a code word to use if she felt uncomfortable during the sting. But she said she froze after stepping into the room and had forgotten to use the word. Under cross-examination, she said she had used a wide variety of drugs and had been involved in violent relationships.

She admitted sending Mr Beaton text messages, which she deleted from her phone before giving it to police.

In one she said: "I wish we could have a whole day and night, master, I'll do anything, I promise."

She denied she was fixated on her psychologist. But she explained the message by saying she was on dexamphetamines. "I wouldn't do this straight," she said.

She also denied suggestions by defence counsel Jeremy Scudds that she attended a therapy session dressed as a Croatian peasant girl or that she had walked around as a geisha for three days. The trial continues today.

You are The Devil

Materiality. Material Force. Material temptation; sometimes obsession

The Devil is often a great card for business success; hard work and ambition.

Perhaps the most misunderstood of all the major arcana, the Devil is not really "Satan"; at all, but Pan the half-goat nature god and/or Dionysius. These are gods of pleasure and abandon, of wild behavior and unbridled desires. This is a card about ambitions; it is also synonymous with temptation and addiction. On the flip side, however, the card can be a warning to someone who is too restrained, someone who never allows themselves to get passionate or messy or wild - or ambitious. This, too, is a form of enslavement. As a person, the Devil can stand for a man of money or erotic power, aggressive, controlling, or just persuasive. This is not to say a bad man, but certainly a powerful man who is hard to resist. The important thing is to remember that any chain is freely worn. In most cases, you are enslaved only because you allow it.

What Tarot Card are You?
Take the Test to Find Out.

You are The Moon
Hope, expectation, Bright promises.

The Moon is a card of magic and mystery - when prominent you know that nothing is as it seems, particularly when it concerns relationships. All logic is thrown out the window.

The Moon is all about visions and illusions, madness, genius and poetry. This is a card that has to do with sleep, and so with both dreams and nightmares. It is a scary card in that it warns that there might be hidden enemies, tricks and falsehoods. But it should also be remembered that this is a card of great creativity, of powerful magic, primal feelings and intuition. You may be going through a time of emotional and mental trial; if you have any past mental problems, you must be vigilant in taking your medication but avoid drugs or alcohol, as abuse of either will cause them irreparable damage. This time however, can also result in great creativity, psychic powers, visions and insight. You can and should trust your intuition.

the Hanged Man (Hanging Ghost)

Self-sacrifice, Sacrifice, Devotion, Bound.

With the Hanged man there is often a sense of fatalism, waiting for something to happen. Or a fear of loss from a situation, rather than gain.

The Hanged Man is perhaps the most fascinating card in the deck. It reflects the story of Odin who offered himself as a sacrifice in order to gain knowledge. Hanging from the world tree, wounded by a spear, given no bread or mead, he hung for nine days. On the last day, he saw on the ground runes that had fallen from the tree, understood their meaning, and, coming down, scooped them up for his own. All knowledge is to be found in these runes.

The Hanged Man, in similar fashion, is a card about suspension, not life or death. It signifies selflessness, sacrifice and prophecy. You make yourself vulnerable and in doing so, gain illumination. You see the world differently, with almost mystical insights.
