How about that ....

You are Strength

Courage, strength, fortitude. Power not arrested in the act of judgement, but passing on to further action, sometimes obstinacy.

This is a card of courage and energy. It represents both the Lion's hot, roaring energy, and the Maiden's steadfast will. The innocent Maiden is unafraid, undaunted, and indomitable. In some cards she opens the lion's mouth, in others she shuts it. Either way, she proves that inner strength is more powerful than raw physical strength. That forces can be controlled and used to score a victory is very close to the message of the Chariot, which might be why, in some decks, it is Justice that is card 8 instead of Strength. With strength you can control not only the situation, but yourself. It is a card about anger and impulse management, about creative answers, leadership and maintaining one's personal honor. It can also stand for a steadfast friend.

Patient denies allegation untruths

By Liza Kappelle

A PERTH woman has denied fabricating claims that a psychologist forced her to wear a dog collar, sexually assaulted her and whipped her during bulimia treatment sessions.
Bruce Alistair Beaton, 64, of Fremantle, is on trial in the District Court for indecently assaulting a 22-year-old woman at his practice between January and March 2005.

He has pleaded not guilty to four counts of indecent assault and one of aggravated sexual penetration.

Beaton was arrested after police burst into his office in March 2005, after hearing whipping sounds while they secretly video recorded one of his treatment sessions with the now 24-year-old.
His lawyer, Jeremy Scudds, today accused the woman of being a habitual liar who liked violence in sexual relationships.

She denied both claims, but has acknowledged lying about a raft of other things - including telling police her mother was a money-hungry control-freak.

``I was just saying that because I was angry,'' she said today.

Mr Scudds pointed out that she had lied to police.

``I'm sorry,'' she said, hanging her head.

She was asked if her mother wanted her to apply for compensation if Mr Beaton was found guilty.

``My mum mentioned that I was entitled to it,'' she said.

Mr Scudds accused her of fabricating evidence that a naked Beaton had sexually assaulted her during their treatment sessions, asking why she could not say if Beaton was circumcised.

``No, I saw his penis and I felt his penis,'' she said holding her fingers a few centimetres apart, as if to indicate size.

``I don't know what circumcised looks like.''

Mr Scudds accused her of being a very clever woman who was putting on an act for the jury by claiming not to understand words, giggling, rocking, rolling her eyes and fluttering her hands.

``I'm like that all the time,'' she replied, bursting into tears and wringing her hands.

The jury has watched the tape on which Mr Beaton is heard calling the woman his ``delicious'' submissive - and she calls him ``master''.

She is seen wearing a dog collar and heard swearing an oath to give him her body in order to "become a better person''.

Mr Beaton gives her a pink cat-o'-nine-tails whip and it is heard, but not seen, cracking 12 times before police intervene.

Woman denies 'nutty' act in psychologist's trial

A woman has denied pretending to be "nutty" in her evidence at the trial of a psychologist who is accused of sexually abusing her.

The 24-year-old woman is in her third day in the witness box at the District Court in Perth, giving evidence against psychologist Bruce Beaton.

The woman alleges he sexually abused her and beat her with a whip and cat o'nine tails during treatment sessions she was having for bulimia and other problems.

Under cross-examination from Beaton's lawyer, she has admitted extensive drug use, self-harm and lying to police.

But she has denied claims she has made up the allegations against Beaton and that she has been putting on an act and pretending to be nutty for the jury.

The trial is continui

Accuser did not show injuries

A woman who claimed her psychologist whipped her with a homemade cat-o’-nine-tails did not show police any injuries caused by the lashings, a jury was told yesterday.

Bruce Alistair Beaton, 64, of Fremantle, is on trial in the District Court after pleading not guilty to four counts of indecent assault and one of aggravated sexual penetration at his Fremantle clinic between January and March 2005, while he was treating the then 22-year-old for bulimia.

Yesterday, lawyer Jeremy Scudds, for Mr Beaton, suggested he did not hit her but hit the couch beside her.

On Tuesday, the jury was shown a secretly recorded video of a session on March 18, 2005. The vision was obscured but whipping sounds were heard before police entered the consultation room.

The woman, now 24, claimed Mr Beaton hit her but police did not see any marks because they did not ask.

“They asked me if I was OK and I said I was,” she said. “I could handle it.”

She later told the court that she had looked at her back in a mirror and the lashings had caused red marks but they were not deep and not bleeding.

Former Fremantle Det-Sgt Craig Reynolds, now based at Kwinana, testified that he had been outside the clinic listening to audio of the secretly recorded session and decided to go into the room after he heard what he thought were whipping noises.

He was the first police officer to enter the room and said he focused on Mr Beaton.

“He was standing and she was seated or crouched,” he said.

He told the jury he could not remember whether Mr Beaton was holding anything in his hand or whether the client had anything around her neck. The door to the room was not locked.

Clinical psychologist Anthea Fursland was called by prosecutor Amanda Forrester to report on the merits of the treatment.

Dr Fursland told the court she did not think it was appropriate for psychologists to strike a patient or a chair near a patient, put a dog-collar on a patient or tell a patient to be “a submissive”.

Under cross-examination, Dr Fursland admitted she had not treated patients with bondage and sado-masochism problems.

The trial continues.
