I miss the fitness threads and the fitness Doms!

It can be hard sometimes. If Sir gets on the machine late or we have problems I can't make it to the class I want. There are times when I get that "just can't be bothered" feeling especially if I'm tired. I do try to make it at least twice a week on our "off dialysis" days, and if Sir is going to be finished in time then I can pick a later class.

I know i could go during the day but I don't like leaving Sir alone for too long when He's on the machine, plus if I'm doing a class I have more motivation and push myself more than if I'm exercising on my own when I tend to slack off

I'm looking into some group exercise programs at our local YMCA. I think I would respond like you to the class. I'm not likely to slack off if there is an audience. Do you prefer any specific classes? Our Y has a class called boot camp that sounds pretty great and then there is zumba and belly dancing. (Plus, I've heard that pole dancing is a fast growing aerobic class. I sure would like to have that particular skill set!)

I go to Bodycombat on Monday evenings. It's martial arts moves set to music (like an aerobics class with punching and kicking ;) )

I do a Boxing class on Tuesdays. Great for getting out stress and an excellent cardio workout.

Thursdays I do Bodypump. Weights set to music. Thanks to that class I have muscles (well you can see them now instead of them being hidden under a layer of fat). Think defined and toned rather than "bulked up".

Those are my top 3. I've tried Bodyattack (aerobics), it's another option but I do prefer the bodycombat and wish they had more than just the one class a week. Spin (cycle), Pilates and yoga I've done before and I do those if I can fit them in or I've missed one of the other classes I like.

This is where I find myself. How does everyone fit exercise into their schedule? I cannot be the only mom with a crazy schedule. When I find I'm choosing between exercise and sleep, I have a lot of trouble making that decision (but I almost always choose sleep).

It is easier in warmer months when my kids and I can get outside. I can run while they ride their bikes.

I need to re-work my schedule so that I have time for everything that is important to me.

Good luck! I've never managed to come very close to having time for everything that is important to me.

So Eldest Daughter comes in while I'm training MIS and asks if she can exercise too. MIS was basically done, so I said sure. Eldest Daughter is nine, and fierce. Anything anyone can do, she can do it, just ask her. Anyway, I have her do a plank for a count of 50, then hop up and do Thrusters with a pair of 5# KB's, then back into the plank, then Thrusters, etc for three full sets with no rest. She did em all, and then gave pull-downs with a mini-band a shot, as she'd seen them being done.

My kid is fierce.

And MIS did right well with the bench press. This is a big thing, as her shoulder was too fucked previously to do. Yesterday, she did the whole upper body session that I do on bench day (so bench press, pull-downs with bands, and knee push-ups). My girl is bad-ass.

viv did not lift with her. It is that time of month. Given the fluid retention inherent to the menstruation cycle, there is a looseness to the joints. Heavy spinal loading is not the best idea. It's not dangerous per se, but I have them use the menstruation cycle as a deload just in case.

two hours of shoveling yesterday have given me the upper back and shoulders of steel...lol. who needs the gym when you have 30 inches of snow on the driveway?:D

Bought my first medium sweater in God knows when. Another 2 or 3 pounds to lose and I'll be a 32 pant size. The sweater is cut tighter in the arms so my arms look better in it.

I'm off to the gym for a much needed workout! While I'm there, I'm picking up the schedule for classes. Hoping I can squeeze in Zumba, Yoga, and Boot Camp into my schedule.

How would one go about gaining weight in a healthy manner? Because that's what I need to do.

I eat good and healthy food, but I'm by no means obsessive about what I eat. I eat meat, but not very often these days and I eat when I'm hungry, sometimes even when I'm not. I go running 3-4 times a week, about 5-8 miles at a time, and I do basic sit ups and push ups and what have you on a regular basis. I hate gyms and I much rather do my workout out in the fresh air and at home.

So should I eat more? Exercise less? Eat more carbs, less carbs or what is the trend thesedays, I no longer know? How can I gain weight in a healthy manner, because that's what needed in order for me to really get healthy. I tried taking it easy with my normal exercise routine for a couple of weeks, but I ended up actually losing weight instead of gaining it.

Any and all advice is more than welcome. I'm trying to avoid going to see a doctor because of this, because I'm ridiculously scared of people who wear white coats. :)

There are some good weight lifting forums out there. Should be some good running ones as well. Sounds like you aren't getting enough calories. Athletes in running, biking, and triathlons eat a lot of calories.

I have problems with that too, really fast metabolism. It's like magic in their, tones go in, almost nothing comes out, freaky.

Anyway, you can spend some cash all at once and buy a weight gainer. Drink it right before you got to sleep. Now that alone won't do much for me, you still have to step it up in other areas, but it's gives you some momentum to work with through the day. In other words, more relaxed face stuffing.

Or you can spend some cash over time and buy more food. Eat a full meal every 3 hours. Or if you don't have the time, eat 2 meals in one sitting. That's what I usually do. It's a bitch, force feeding yourself in my opinion is harder then working out.

When I want to gain weight I shoot for about 4,000 calories a day. I should go for more, but, you'll see, its just not realistic to go much beyond that. I just take whats in each meal, round it, and try to get above 3,500. At that rate I gain about 1lb a week, 15lbs in 3 months. At that point in time I'm usually out of money and everyone sick of donating.

What to eat, honestly, its so much food, preparing ahead of time would take forever, just grab whatever is their when its time to eat more. Cheap stuff helps, like pasta, potato salad, in Ca milk is cheap.

Oh, and try not to eat stuff you actually favor, cause by the end you will hate it.

Stick to it, treat eating like running, just push on even when your whole body says stop.

Really solid advice for weight gain there.

The only thing I will add to it is an emphasis on weight-training (already mentioned), as the old-school pre-steroid formula for growth was heavy weights (in compound movements like squats and deadlifts, with heavy loads) and at least a gallon of whole milk every day. Whee.

And don't sweat the idea of gaining nothing but muscle. As a woman, you are likely to experience more balanced gains overall than a man would simply due to hormone profile.

Muscle will suck up even more energy.

But then on the other hand a girl can always use more ass. So, you know.

It's my weekly Slimming World club meeting tonight and although I had lost a huge 6 pounds in a week at last week's meeting (which might lead me to expect not to lose anything this week), I suspect I may have lost a little bit more this week (I feel thinner again - had to buy new bras at the weekend.................... god is good - I have gone from 38D to 36DD LOL - but also I reckon another week or two and I'll be having to buy new trousers).

Anyway, if the scales show no loss this week (was last week's apparent 6-pound loss an anomaly on the scales??) - I shall try not to be down-hearted, cos I know I have got smaller this last week.

Went for a long walk in the mountains yesterday - my first since I was around 20 pounds heavier - and my GOD! I was so conscious of having less weight on me to drag up the hills. The walk was sooooooooo much easier with that reduction in load. I am trying to imagine how easy hill-walking is going to be when I have lost the remaining 49 pounds I need to lose :D

Ownedsubgal- Yes, shoveling will certainly "tone" you, LOL! This MD snow will really nail us all, eek!
As for the water, at 80-90 minutes (on hot days, especially) you should drink a bit before heavy cardio. It's okay to do that! :)

A one-pound loss this week at Slimming World.

Given last week's loss, that's not too shabby. :)

Thanks a lot YC and Homburg!

Your answers were pretty much what I anticipated - eat more. I eat 2 warm meals a day and I snack in between, so I probably should go for getting some heavier snacks instead of the fruit and veggie that I usually take. There's absolutely no way I can force myself to eat full meals more than I already do. But if nothing helps, I'll have to try. Good thing food here is cheap.

The food here is really starchy and I actually have gained a bit weight since I moved here, which is definitely a good thing, but more is wanted. It happened the last time I lived here too, but then I moved to way up north and the food there seemed to be a lot less starchy and I lost all my hard earned weight. I'm also thinking about starting to eat meat again, if that would do the trick. Doubt it, but I'll try anything before J makes me go see a doctor.

I have a friend who's been struggling with the same problem as I am. She doesn't even work out, but she's underweight all the same. She eats cake and chocolate every day to keep the calories coming in, but I can't see how that would be good for me, so I'm definitely taking another route.

Thanks again!

And YC, this woman sure would use some more ass. :D

Hey and don't be intimidated by the weight gain containers. They are aimed at men, so they do tend to look like BBQ charcoal bags with a steroid user on front. Inside its all just powder though.

Last day of the Deload

Overhead Press

I couldn't stand the idea of doing multiple sets of 5 with crap weight, so I condensed it into 3x10 with the weights going up to all of 85#

Deloads really grate on me towards the end.

Oh yeah, it was scheduled for deadlifts. I fail to see the worth in doing reps with light weight in the dead. It is inviting an injury due to sloppiness. No thanks.

So the project Lance and I have been working on is for a major weight loss program website. The program is a good one and not one of those "pre-packaged food & pills" type scams. The irony, however, is that we usually eat very healthy but we've been so busy working to meet the deadline that we've been eating a ton of crap, or not eating at all.

We're going to have to ask the owner if we get a discount, lol

Anyway, when the site's up and the bugs are ironed out, I'd love to get some feedback from anyone on here who is trying to lose weight, or has tried to lose weight in the past. I believe the program is sound but I'm curious to know if that comes across on the site.

You can let me know here or by pm and I'll pm the link when it's ready.

But, but... I want mine in a container with puppies and flowers and sparkly things!

Hey, even I get self conscious buying that stuff. "No, I'm not insecure at all about my penis size, I'm just buying this body building stuff with the flames on the side cause I think it looks neat."

With that description, I would love to watch you purchase some. :D
