"I'm going to finish my damn story!": a support thread

I wrapped up chapter 8. Chapter 9 is the outtro, so it's going to be short. I'm waiting until after lunch to finish it because I don't want to be crying at Chipotle.
Try one of these restaurants instead: (BTW I'm in the midst of writing Goth IHOP.)

I don't know. Maybe I should finish one of the stories I've worked on. You know what though? Cat videos are fun. So.....

My computer broke. The thing for the 750-word challenge was there, but I lost access to it. I do have it backed up.

Unfortunately, my Valentine's entry wasn't, and all I had was the first draft on my phone, which I'm now editing again FROM SCRATCH!

I don't know if I could make it. My phone is more distracting and it's really difficult to edit here... But my writing speed matched the same writing speed I have on the computer!

That sucks. Hopefully it's in other ways easier the second time round.

All right, got 2300 words done today. Not nearly as much as I was hoping for, but we're in the café after I detonated a small-to-medium exposition bomb about the democratization of magic and people using demons for all sorts of tasks nowadays, the fear of demons replacing human jobs, etc. Definitely going to have to scale it back/move it in revision.

Probably about halfway finished, so looking at a final word count of ~15k. Which is definitely more than I thought it would be going in. Story of my life.

I'm very much enjoying powerful foxxubus forcing this guy to treat her like a stereotypical girly girlfriend, but also pretending to be his thrall (so as not to drawer suspicion that she's an un-bound demon) while occasionally roasting him.
“Master couldn’t find a date, so I’m it!” Vulpi chirped.

The man rolled his eyes. “Gods, man, get a life.”

“He doesn’t need a life, he has me!”
Tomorrow, I'm really hoping to have a good burst, since I'd like to get this in before the Valentine's Day deadline closes on the 6th. Shooting for 5k, primarily because I suspect this thing will end up near 20k, despite my assertion ten seconds ago

Just re-read my draft and am still crying but for a very different reason :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: . I don't suppose there's a "let's get motivated for a round of revision" thread.
Revision is the reward for writing! It's where everything comes together and you get to focus on the language, the imagery, the foreshadowing. It's the best thing about being a writer.

I agree 100% I love revision as much as writing. Maybe more, since revision is the act of cleaning up a manuscript, which implies that writing is the act of making it messy.

I took a long look at this one and it needs a rewrite, not a revision, but for all the right reasons. I was writing a ghost story with a light romance on the side, but pivoted hard into the romance at the end (because it was honestly the better story and I felt that as I was drafting). But now I have 9 chapters of ghost story when what I want is 9 chapters of romance with a ghost story that complicates & catalyzes the relationship.

That sounds extremely interesting. Good luck on your rewrite! I've had a bug in my head for a while wanting to write a ghost story but haven't come up with an idea I like, here's hoping the rewrite goes well.

Lol, you and me both! :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

In all seriousness, this is actually a great thing because I saw and identified the problem in 2 days rather than 2 months. It's a story I had a really great time coming up with, so I want to make sure that everyone who reads it has as much fun as me.

I have been unable to write the final chapter of my story "Mage & Moonshadow". It began quite easily, but after two and a half thousand words it stalled. I was unable to move the story forward towards the right climax. And then life and work came along, and now I have not written anything for nearly a month.

But next week I intend to start writing again. I will join this thread then for encouragement!
It has taken somewhat longer than I intended, but last night I got back to my story. I wrote 800 words, and I have already added another 200 today. I know how the story is going to progress too, which was a large part of the problem.
