"I'm going to finish my damn story!": a support thread

(The spanking will continue until morale improves.)

I've been rearranging notes in several files, hoping I don't lose anything, and have now settled down to two well-planned WIPs. So I have deleted the old one with the very temporary title 'Alice's Sister WITHOUT Orgies' (needed to distinguish it from an earlier one).

I can't think of a meme for this. Have a kitten instead.

I mentally transposed that to "grate minds" and now can't stop thinking about using a cheese grater on a brain.

😐🫤

...Nope, still thinking about it.
Violence isn't the answer, especially torturous violence; although sometimes the way my brain works, I do wonder if mine wasn't put through a grater, or should be🤔.

Regardless, think I FINALLY unlocked the answer to the prologue that's been giving fits for weeks. Now I just need the time to write it.

I think mine was put through a paper shredder, and they happened to include most of the paper in the wastebin when they glued it back together.

Stick to one project only. If you can't choose, flip a coin and discard everything until one remains. If you say "but I wanted X and now I must discard it!", discard everything but X.

Give yourself a deadline. Put consequences on it. Look up loss aversion.

You will live and breathe that project only from now on.
I was doing so well... for a little bit. Decided to eliminate one of the sub plots (good idea, I think) and then got distracted when I perused the forums and saw the contest list. A totally shit and trope filled contest entry entered my head and I knocked out the Alpha in 27000 words in a day or three. First revision coming up.

Then I dropped a 7500 word note on a sequel to my Clay Witch story because I had a thought in the shower.

I'm heading back to do the plot elimination on the first this evening, and I hope that I am not overcome by all those little thoughts that cry out to be added to other partially written stories. I'm trying for a deadline of tomorrow. If I don't make it, tell my family I love them.

Holy crap. 27,000 words in three days? That's astounding! Congrats.

Some of my best ideas (and breakthroughs when I'm stuck on a scene) happen in the shower. Love it when that happens.

Welcome to the 10K-a-day club. May Walter B. Gibson's Shadow inspire you.

Yeah, I have no problem with diarrhea of the keyboard except finding a comfortable position to type from. I have plenty of ideas (many times too many) but can't finish. In Lit terms: plenty of [brain] tease, no orgasm.

Well, the novel is up to 59k and only have the final scene to go. I have it on pause to switch over to my Tainted Love entry which is now officially underway. I have 900 words. It's a slow start and I don't know how long it will be. I'm guessing 15-20k? I hope that I can make the deadline.
