Are we? I thought we were supposed to write 500 to a thousand words then analyze it to the bone, over and over again until you hate what you've written and convince yourself you shouldn't be doing this? No? That's not right? Huh.Wait, we're supposed to be writing?!
Sounds interesting. On a similar note, no I can't explain what I'm about to say so please don't ask me too; I just realized that a dialogue sequence can actually be info dumping; that was eye opening.Well, didn't get any writing done, but I wrote a 2750-word breakdown of a six-paragraph, 237-word section detailing various implicit writing techniques. We talk an awful lot about show vs. tell, but rarely do people mention the third option: show vs. tell vs. imply.
Fun stuff, lots of reader psychology and manipulation, how to evoke certain feelings and set moods in ways that readers aren't always consciously aware of.
I haven't been doing much of that either lately.Hang in the forums and make stupid jokes all day.
I rarely have to analysize it over and over to hate what I wrote. I either like it, or I punch the words in the kidneys until they comply. Problem is, they also punch back. I'm 59 kidney replacements in at this point. Are we? Ohhhh I see, you're better than me, huh? Hate your work sooner than me?I rarely have to analysize it over and over to hate what I wrote. I either like it, or I punch the words in the kidneys until they comply. Problem is, they also punch back. I'm 59 kidney replacements in at this point.
I never hang around and make stupid jokes all day. The above was totally serious.
Damn straightOhhhh I see, you're better than me, huh?
How dare you make me ruin the mood by being supportive and appreciative of your journeyActually it comes down to this. When I started I didn't take any of it seriously; not the stories (not that they're bad per say), and not the writing (not good, mostly- as I say on my home page, the idea is better than the execution). Anyway, over the last year there's been a reassessment of how I write, and it's been a challenge, there's a great deal to work through, analyze, figure out, and find solutions for, but I'm getting there.
One emoji isn't enough of a responseDamn straight

I support you and am appreciative of your journey![]()
I've learned a great deal from others here, and one who doesn't come to to the threads much. You're one of them. Those who post in the writing threads about the art are fantastic and much appreciated.
With blessing from the ever-wonderful @NuclearFairy (may she reign forever), I'm very likely going to turn this into a How To story, possibly in the format of an archaeopteryx woman with severe librarian glasses teaching a class of semi-interested college students about the mechanics of reader psychology and eliciting certain reactions using implicit techniques.Well, didn't get any writing done, but I wrote a 2750-word breakdown of a six-paragraph, 237-word section detailing various implicit writing techniques. We talk an awful lot about show vs. tell, but rarely do people mention the third option: show vs. tell vs. imply.

I'd need a link to your breakdown to know if I wanted you to include something I wrote. With blessing from the ever-wonderful @NuclearFairy (may she reign forever), I'm very likely going to turn this into a How To story, possibly in the format of an archaeopteryx woman with severe librarian glasses teaching a class of semi-interested college students about the mechanics of reader psychology and eliciting certain reactions using implicit techniques.
Possibly even a series if other people wanted to hand me short scenes to rewrite to convey the specific emotion they're trying to get in a scene and do deep dives and high dissection of various techniques.
All Hail Nuc![]()
I wouldn't solicit anything until I publish the first one, and probably include an AN saying anyone who is interested in similar treatment can message me (probably would want to keep it out of the comment section), so people know what they're getting into. Nuc was a champ and had no idea I was going to dump nearly 3k words on herI'd need a link to your breakdown to know if I wanted you to include something I wrote.
Sure sure. No worries.I wouldn't solicit anything until I publish the first one, and probably include an AN saying anyone who is interested in similar treatment can message me (probably would want to keep it out of the comment section), so people know what they're getting into. But if you're still interested after I publish, I'd be more than happy to take a lookI think it'd be cool to get it as a 2 - 3 times a year series between fiction projects, assuming anyone actually wants to read it

Yeah, because I might as well give up ever writing anything ever againSure sure. No worries.
But...We all know what this is leading to, Anthy. We await your open-to-all-takers review thread with bated breath. AwkwardMD and Omen just stepped down, Anthy. You know you feel the calling.
