I'm, ummm, speechless

All I gotta say is if you guys queer (pun intended) my deal with Ben & Jerry's I am going to be SO pissed! I want my own flavor named after me! Something like Lesbian Boob Berry or or Sue's Tit Milk and Toffee.

Actually those nuts from ELF, ALF, PETA and all the rest believe the Earth would be a better place without humans. Of course they are so stupid they don't realize that mean them too.

I wonder what they think would happen to all the superfluous dairy cows if this ridiculous notion were to take flight.

No. What is really scary is that they do.

They would advocate "returning them to the wild" which would be an unspeakably cruel thing to do. The cows would all suffer terribly before starving or being eaten by mountain lions or other predators or suffering some other painful death.

What would actually happen is they would be butchered but they would first be killed in a humane way.

Exactly.

Idiots.

All this milking is making me horny... Bovine Bill

I had to check the date... this is so much a April Fool play.

PETA regards people and other animals as the same. Which is exactly the point they are trying to make with this publicity stunt and, for that matter, with all of their publicity stunts. With regard to the drink beer instead of milk campaign, again, they were ironically advocating that, foolishly hoping that people would equate the two (binge drinking and drinking milk) as equally wrong. It's a publicity stunt intended to provoke people, not a sincere desire to see that happen.

I agree. You're supposed to make the connection between human women and cows (btw: human women ALSO continually make milk - as long as they continue to be "milked" - it works on supply and demand, just like cows). If we were to try to make enough human milk to supply Ben and Jerry's, we would have to have barns full of women... hooked to machines... being milked almost constantly... put on antibiotics to prevent infection... their udders... er, nipples... would get sore, raw, and would bleed... might get infected and leak pus into the milk supply... but that's okay, because we'd pasteurize it all and clean it up for human consumption... and in doing so, kill most of the nutritive value in the product...

That's pretty much how we milk cows. It really ISN'T very humane or even healthy, to say the least. I prefer raw milk from local farmers, where I can trust the source, myself. The stuff you buy in the stores? *shudder* I wouldn't touch it.

p.s. Anyone seeing a plot bunny here? :D

The lunatic fringe consists of vegan evangelists who haven't got the word that plants are actually alive. Once it sinks in, they will be in a terrible dilemma. May be fun to watch . . .

Did you hear that they offered a million to any microbiologist who can come up with a palatable meat substitute from yeast?

Yeasts are living organisms, somewhere between bacteria and viruses...do they not realize that? All those little teaspoons of sugar and other seemingly useless ingredients in bread dough? It's food for the yeasts, because they eat it and it makes them pass gas, which makes the dough rise. We're eating yeast farts!! And yet yeasts are not worthy of consideration?

I have also heard that some vegans think that even nursing a baby is WRONG. Maybe that's just the lunatic fringe of the lunatic fringe.

Oh lord. Yeah...I gotta agree with VM here about this; they'll think themselves into extinction at some point. I hope they don't take the rest of us down with them.

Irony...yur doin' it rong. Or they are, anyway.

I'm actually surprised at the number of people, lunatic fringe or not, who don't realize that turning a domesticated animal loose in the wild is a death sentence. That's scary too. :(

Piers Anthony did it thirst years ago in a story called The Barn. It's in the anthology Again Dangerous Visions.

Did he really? How cool! :D
Yeah, parallel universe. Separate class of 'cows' and 'bulls'. Deliberately bred and fed to be not much brighter than cows.

Rather unpleasant story actually.

That should be 'thirty years' Been up since before three so my typing's bad.

I remember that story, and yes, it was unpleasant.

The other consideration is that even though human milk is perfect for feeding a baby (who has nothing else to compare it with) I can't see that it would make very good ice cream.

I get impatient with these people who deplore the "dairy culture" in America. Whereas the Masai place just as much emphasis on cow's milk consumption and since they're a different culture, these leftistas would probably think it was cool.

It doesn't taste bad. I always thought Joey from Friends' description was perfect: "It tastes like melon juice." ;)

PETA and all the other activist groups need to think this thing through. They're so worried about the cows and the calves being treated right that they haven't realized what will happen to the animals if humans have no further use for them.

Cows, pigs, sheep, chickens and all the other "stock" animals are domesticated. They were bred for a certain purpose. The animals are environmentally destructive.

No one will want the expense of caring for them. No one will want the damage caused by them.

They will be shot, buried in huge trenches and then there will be no more cows, pigs, chickens or other stock animals.

Exactly. PETA is not hoping that Ben and Jerry's will think this is a good idea, they are hoping for a reaction from ordinary people—the reaction they want is: "That would be a horrible thing to do to women! Oh. It's a horrible thing to do to cows, too, isn't it?" I don't think many people will react the way that they want, though.

I suspect that there are probably a number of stories like that already.

Irony...yur doin' it rong. Or they are, anyway.

Well, I never said that PETA were successfully getting their point across—clearly they are not. The problem is that no one who doesn't already agree with them will react the way that they hope.
