Insomniacs Unite (by request)

I'm glad you're doing fine. My kitty beast has been incredibly sweeter and cuddlier than usual since I got home. It's like she babysits or something. Right now she's sleeping on the shelf above my moniter where little evil exrays are probably zinging off my monitor to melt her fuzzy little demon kitty brain...

Our cats kept knocking things off of my desk until I finally gave in, cleared a corner, and put a piece of fleece down (the fleece is used as a marker - if they stay on it, I don't throw them off the desk; if they get off of it, they are fair game). I don't think there is anything strong enough to penitrate through their thick skulls to do any damage LOL.

I hope not, cause she really doesn't seem to have the brain cells to spare! The shelf up there sort of belongs to her. It has a few books and a beanie eeyore and plushy bunny, but that's it.

a beanie eeyore? So what you have a shelf with two eeyores? Is that to show her who's she's named after?

Does her tail fall off too?

Now Grace, you can never have enough Eeyoreness! Her tail stays attached, but the beany's is velcroed on.

My insomnia's pretty random, but the past four days have been pretty bad, not getting to sleep 'till 4:00, pissing me off quite a bit.....

Mine is sort of ouch related insomnia. I'm not hurting as bad as I was; but I'm at the point where I can grit my teeth and bear the fucking pain and not sleep, be able to concentrate or eat; or I can take the damn drugs, hit on anything with legs, pass out for 6 hours and wake up with a hangover. Right now the lack of drugs seems to be the better answer, but I'll let you know tonight if that changes.

Ah, true enough. It's not like piglet. You can definately have too much pigletnes.

This really sucks. Someone sleep for me please, as I apparently can't sleep for myself...

Fat @#$% chance. I dreamed that I was Naval Academy upperclassman in charge of hazing some asian female teen plebes, in full dress white uniforms, in a red-velvet draped "torture toilet", whatever the fuck that is.

Then I dreamed I was the cameraman shooting a new sitcom the concept of which was "from the POV of a schizophrenic". All the sets and costumes and props were bright red. Everyone was always popping their swollen faces right into the camera.

I came into this thread because I couldn't sleep (little before 3am Eastern). And now, after reading the above I am afraid to go back to sleep. :/ Man Rosco, you have the most lurid, surreal, and vivid dreams of anyone I know. Your unconscious must be a very strange place.

I am a dream copycat or rehasher, I often dream about things I experienced the day before, or, more often, talked about, and if I hear someone else's dream, I'll often have my own version of it when I go to sleep. I do not want to have my own version of the above two dreams!

I had been sleeping really well. In fact I was even looking forwards to bedtime and dreamland for at least 6 weeks. But last night I had the worst insomnia I've ever had. Completely wide awake until I got up, feeling rather chipper, at 5. OF course now I feel like a crumpled up used sock.

Why me???

They are on strike for Cristal in the break room at company xpense.

I have the ghastly sensation that it is going to be a very long night.

If only I could use the night hours productively for instance working on my Old Norse-Mongolian dictionary or practising flamenco guitar. But I just turn into a starey-eyed ball of anxiety and tension and am useless after 11.

Uncle Rosco why not tell us a bedtime story? Please, pretty please...I'll do anything you ask. :D

Nice if it would work that way, huh?

We could have dedicated banks of snoozers snoozing away, and after 8 hours all their extra sleep would go into this big old bank....

That is an unusual hobby!

Does your cat having insomnia count? My bad cat woke me at least six times last night, most recent at 4:30 at which time I gave up on sleeping. Howling like a banshee. I thought maybe he was having deep emotional issues or really sick (and I am going to take him to the vet's after last night) but the solution might be simpler. I have a long commute in dangerous traffic, so I take a few precautions before I leave for work: I make sure the open catfood bag is on the floor and I leave a spigot in the bathtub dripping so, in case I don't make it back home one of these days, my kitty will, hopefully, have the means to survive for awhile until someone enters the house. I usually leave it going at night, too, because he seems to like it so much. Well last night I forgot to set the spigot dripping. I've noticed once before that he got particularly howl-y when I neglected to give him his "fresh outdoor waterfall" overnight, so I supect this is the root of his bad behavior. At any rate, it's an hour later, and now I have to get ready for work and I am dragging. :/

ok so i tried the "dont get outta bed and try to go back to sleep" thing all night last night. guess what....it doesnt work!

What drives me so crazy about insomnia is how tired I am. I get out of bed, try to read or do anything, and I am so sleepy that I can't concentrate. Get back in bed and wide awake.

Read in bed.

I can't concentrate on anything I actually want to read. It's like this hellish half-state, useless for anything but fretting and obsessing and panic but still more or less conscious.

yep...as soon as you get all comfy and head is on the pillow 65 million thoughts appear that seem to go away when you sit back up and wait for you to lay down again.

Have you tried sleeping sitting up? Find a nice comfy EZ chair, prop yourself up with pillows and doze. That's what I do when I can't breathe.
