Insomniacs Unite (by request)

Nocturnal is such a perfect word. I swear I am turning into a vampire. No, not for the blood lust, but because I am basically a tired mess all day and then the sun goes down and I feel fine. I have not been getting nearly the amount of sleep that I should but I just can't lie awake in bed for hours either.

Master wrote a new story that hopefully will be published soon under my account -- at least I had fun editing that while not sleeping.

OK, so I know it's 9:40am and most everyone is awake & doing ok ... but not me - I think that I might have slept a total of 3 hours in the last 26 or so ... so, insomnia strikes again, even though I've quit denying my nocturnal tendancies :(

Oh well, hopefully it will only be a phase ...

All I can say is thank god for benedryl. It keeps me breathing and helps me sleep.
I'm also nocturnal. No matter how tired I am I sleep better during the day. I read somewhere that they are actually discovering that when you sleep best is genetic. I know I take after my dad, but my mom's also a bed at 10 up at 6. (It's sick. Can you imagine getting up at 6 every morning, just cause you WANT TO? Ug) I also read something stating that what you is dependant on what time you're born. I don't really think that's true, cuase 2 of my kids were born in the morning, and one at night and they're all night owls. *shrugs*

And here I am again. Has everyone else worked out their insomnia? If I'm not sleepy in the next 15 minutes i'm gonna take something. Plus I'm bored out of my mind. *sigh*

If they have, I'd be so grateful if they'd share.

I finally figured out my sleeping problems - but has involved sleeping for most of the hours that I haven't been working (and unfortunately, a few when I have been) for the last 2 weeks or so ... and you don't want my solution - I have chronic fatigue syndrome that decides to nail me once in a while ... haven't had trouble in over 4 years, so I guess it's about time, huh?

The last few nights Master's insomnia has been a problem. Usually He can have a few cones before bed and He'll get 2-3 hours at a stretch, but now He's only getting an hour at the most before He's awake again.

Which is not good, because He has to have his insulin and eat at a respectable time (before 9am ideally) and sometimes He's impossible to get moving because He's just exhausted. Add to that pain from arthritis and the mornings become a nightmare sometimes. :( We have no idea why it has suddenly worsened. Hopefully it will stop as suddenly as it's started.......

Oh Bandit -- I am sorry to hear of your Master's suffering -- has he checked his levels with a doctor? Might be time to do that.

I am so glad to see that this thread has done so well. I have had the WORST time sleeping -- I can't even seem to get tired before 2 am. I am really dragging cause I have to wake up at 6 am every morning.

Even writing doesnt seem to do it for me -- it usually worked when I would blog but haven't been inspired. Maybe I need another hurricane -- not! :)

Anyway hugs to all those who can't sleep and prayers to all of us that we can. :)

well, after once again intending to only lay down with Holly and ghosst for awhile and falling asleep for ... the whole night (I even took the phone with me so that I would wake up when sylvan called ... and he didn't) I'm awake at an entirely unnatural hour for me ... well, kinda - I should be going to bed, not getting up ...

I tell ya, this chronic fatigue will cure your insomnia, but will fuck up EVERYTHING else ... ug

I have spells of insomnia, particularly if I have something weighing on my mind, and my brain just ... won't... stop!

Sadly, lack of sleep is a known migraine trigger for me. So it's something I have to be careful of.

I meditate on the shape of my nose and sometimes that works. M taught me that one, it's handy.

Of course now my schedule is something like 3pm -7 am

*scream*

I used to be the totally self disciplined person in college, now I'm running amok. I need a freelancer's group that can help me, but I can't wait to be asked "so, what do YOU do?"

I wanna be a fly on the wall when you answer that question.

I've suffered from Insomnia for many years now & often only get grabs of sleep totalling about 1 to 3 hours a night, been to all sorts of doctors & in the end sleeping pills was all they came up with & they only left me more exhausted the next day than no sleep at all does, I then went to a party & was given some pot which I hadn't had for many years & had it at home & got some good sleep so now it's pot most nights I get desperate for sleep.

I tend to suffer from insomnia. Usually it's just a matter of not being able to fall asleep before 3 or 4 in the morning. However if there is something weighing on my mind, there's no hope for me getting any sleep. I find that routine helps me fall asleep more consistently. This is especially true when I worked first shift. I'm pretty sure I got this from my mom. She was an RN and worked midnights almost exclusively for twenty years.

If I'm up all night I usually end on the puter or reading a book.

I wonder if there is a vampire gene -- but without all the blood lust lol. I swear, I am exhausted during the day but then the night comes and darn if I can't get any sleep. I did ask my doc about it once and he said that about 1/4 of the population just doesn't need sleep. Fancy that. Weird. Unfortunately, perhaps we're in that 1/4 lol. It's every night. I watch the clock. It is my enemy. Whatever happened to that alarm that was shaped like a baseball -- where you could throw it to turn it off? I need to find myself one of those.

Speak for yourself ... I'm no lunatic - I slept just fine today ... from about 3am until 7.30, then 8.30 to 2 ... with a few interruptions from the animals totalling maybe another hour of non-sleep during those times.

You lucky man. I was at my computer today and my body just shut down -- wham. I don't know how long I was asleep but it was weird, I couldn't control it -- it was in the middle of the day -- guess it caught up with me. Every once in a while, like Data on Star Trek Enterprise, it is as if someone presses my off button and thonk...there goes the shutdown...processing....processing...processing....reboot.

Actually I think the moon has a lot to do with it -- lunatism is real. Werewolves I am not so sure of. But the tides and even humans can and are affected by the moon.

Here is a link:

http://www.sinc.sunysb.edu/Clubs/buddhism/dhammananda/217.htm to read the whole piece. Here is an exerpt:

"It is believed that the moon, like the other planets, exerts a considerable degree of influence on human beings. It has been observed that people suffering from mental ailments invariably have their passions and emotional feelings affected during full moon days. The word 'lunatic' derived from the word 'lunar' (or moon) is most significant and indicates very clearly the influence of the moon on human life. Some people, suffering from various forms of illness invariably find their sickness aggravated during such periods. Researchers have found that certain phases of the moon not only affect humans and animals, but also influence plant life and other elements. Low-tides and high-tides are a direct result of the overpowering influence of the moon.

Our human body consists of about seventy percent liquid. It is accepted by physicians that our bodily fluids flow more freely at the time of full moon. People suffering from asthma, bronchitis and even certain skin diseases, find their ailments aggravated under the influence of the moon. More than five thousand years ago, people had recognized the influence of the moon on cultivation. Farmers were very particular about the effect of the moon on their crops. They knew that certain grains and paddy would be affected if blooming took place during a full moon period. Medical science had also ascertained the different reactions of certain medicines under different facets of the moon, because of the influence of the moon on human beings. "

So, if we don't need sleep, why are we so tired? Sounds like bull to me. Actually sounds like your dr doesn't want to deal with it, and so's throwing statistics around.

That makes sense. Frankly ask any ER nurse or dr, and they'll tell you that the ER will be full on nights of a full moon. I've even heard that some ER's schedule more staff on those nights, because they know it's going to happen.
My sister and best friend are both bartenders, and they say they get more weirdo's on nights of a full moon, and it's more likely they're gonna have to break up a fight.

Yeah, there is definately a link with the moon, even if I believe it's simply an issue of self-fullfilling prophecies - we expect people to go nuts and do stupid things, so they do ...

I am very glad that I have started working night shift. Overall, it works much better for me, even if it doesn't leave me as much time with Holly or our boys ... at least I'm not exhausted during the time that I do have with them.

Graceanne, you're probably right lol. Who knows. All I know is that I would like some REM sleep. I am missing my technicolor dreams!

I have had insomnia for past year or so.

It drives me crazy, I try hot milky drinks, turning the computer off, meditating, not reading in bed (once i start a book ....)

The more i lay wishing I were aseep the worse it is. Last night was sending Him a text mesaage at 5.30am as still not asleep.
I was in office by 9.30am and here now its 1.30am UK time and I am still awake :(

I have done night shifts in the past and I know i am more an owl than a lark person; but this is getting silly.

I do at least stay in bed when He is here, as He hates me wandering around the house when He is asleep (how does He know?)

Anyway off to do some stretches and then bed.

Try to sleep well when you get to bed
