I already signed the list ,but just a bump to keep it up front. Thank you for your work Sweet

Well... I know I added my vote to the poll but I guess I never said that I was in... altho I sure like the idea of Portland in the summer by the river so I could bring the jetski's and have maybe a couple of boats there as well....

Additionally... if we do decide to do this... we can put a hidden page with all the details on it as to where... directions... etc, etc on my web site and pass out the link to the people coming....

anyway... whatever....

I really can;t wait for the Lit-together since i have only talked to a few people here. Just the chance to put the personality with the person would make it worth it.

Thanks for the bump, Borg! So far, this hasn't been much in the way of work, and as long as more participate in the discussion, it should be fine. :)

I love the river idea, Calvin, but I think we may lose a bunch on this one because of distance. However, I'd definitely consider going down to a Portland-area event (isn't BBWetKitty planning one as well?), as I'm sure would others, so maybe that'd be a good option? Mid- to late- summer is usually best for water activities, so perhaps doing it then, and Seattle earlier would work?

I think the hidden page (are you thinking password protected as well?) would be perfect, and appreciate your offer to do that for us! :rose:

I'm really excited for that reason, too! :) Do you have any input on where to go, or what to do?

SE - Yes... the river idea is a good one...

I have no idea if BBWKitty is planning a PDX get-together... she has not said anything to me and I very seldom am here anymore.... so I guess I would be considered out of the loop... if there really is a loop anyway...

As for the web page... we can pw it but there is no real reason to if it is hidden... if you do not have the link/URL, then you will not find it....

Bump to the top :nana:
Thanks, swtcum...I was just thinking about this thread last night, wondering if anyone had suggestions for places.

Where in the Seattle area have you been and enjoyed?

Are there any restaurants, bars, clubs, or similar you think may be suitable for a larger group like ours?

Or, are there places you've heard about and would like to try?

I'd be willing to go, if I can score the time off work. Are we talking a meet and greet type thing, how to classes and lectures?

A Saturday meet and greet type of thing: maybe meeting in a neat restaurant or someplace late-afternoon/early-evening, chatting, having dinner, and then going to one or more bars/clubs/nightspots. Obviously we don't have a solid plan at this point, which is why I've been begging for input. ;) Any suggestions, Oddity?

Are some spring/summer weekends better or worse for you than others (apart from holiday weekends...I'm guessing we won't plan it for one of those)?

One of the things we HAVE decided on is the details of our get together will be kept private and given via PM only, so make sure you either vote or keep tabs on this thread so we know to contact you or vice versa. :)

I am game for meeting other Litsters from WA. I have alot of friends on here, would be nice to see them all.

k, I'm just going to throw out the name of a nice casual place that I've been to with a group of people from another IBB:

Wild Gingerhttp://www.wildginger.net
1401 Third Avenue
Seattle

They were able to accommodate a group of 10 or 12 of us at a big round table in the room on the other side of the satay bar. Obviously, a reservation is necessary. Nice thing about this place is you can order small or large plates to share (or not, as you please). Very nice upstairs bar if we decided to do a meet and greet there. Alternatively, we could meet at a hotel lobby bar for a cocktail meet and greet, and then those who want to continue on to dinner may do so.

Just an idea to get the ball rolling ...

Oh, and my only wish is that this be on a weekend in april or may, or august or september. :)

Great looking spot! Thanks for getting the ball rolling. I think we need to work around any holidays like Memorial Day and the 4th of July week. I'm also thinking an initial gathering in April also, with another to follow in Sept or October?
I don't know Seattle at all as far as the night scene goes, but it makes sense to have the Litogehther where the most people could make it.

Hi Sweet
You really are a sweetie for taking this on . My thoughts .The only way for you to work out the logistics is for you to pick a time and place and format that work well and make sense to and for you. Everyone else will have to work within those parameters. Having to work everyones schedules and desires into the mix just doesn't work. Or choose a small group and see what they come up with. And just stick with it. Those that really want to come ,will find a way if they can. It's hard enough any more to meet four people for lunch ,nowadays ,with everybodies schedules. No one would resent your choice/choices. I think that is the only way it would work.

My only other thought is since 90% of the people will be from the Puget Sound Area ,you would get the biggest turnout in that area.(Spokane area person here :( ,But I will make it if at all possible.). That may help narrow your selections.

I saw someone already mentioned a spot. Hey ,that works. When?.

and Thanks Again for your time and energy. You really are a sweetie! :rose:

This was my thot as well, as I PM'ed to Sweet. Just pick a weekend and go with it. That's how it works with the frequent fliers I know.

Don't forget your neighbors to the north (Vancouver) and to the south (Portland). It's not *that* far. <g>

Even tho I'm not a Seattlite I do know a little about the nightlife up there. Wild Ginger is very conveniently located near lots of nightlife spots within walking distance. I'm not hugely into clubbing but I can certainly point you in the right direction. If strip clubs are your thing there are tons of those close by. If salsa-ing or swing dancing is your thing then that's where I can most help out.

Borg and E, thanks for the feedback! :rose: I know it'll come to making "executive decisions" or it won't happen at all, but was hoping some would make suggestions because I'm NOT well-versed in Seattle places that are suitable for groups, and would rather give everyone a chance to have a say.

Also, it looks like June/July aren't preferable or possible for some of you, and it's a huge help to know things like that. Like anything else, people will either make the date work or they won't, but I'd hate to choose one that's impossible for a large number (and may have chosen June or something without any feedback  ).

Eudaemonia, thank you so much for jumping in to get the ball rolling. I haven't been to Wild Ginger, but have heard wonderful things about it. I'll email the contact on their website to see how they might handle a group larger than 12 or so, but it looks like a great preliminary location. :)

DoctorJoe, I really like your idea of having two get togethers, and four months seems like a good amount of time between them. :rose:

I will say that the Wild Ginger sounds like a good idea. Nightlife wise, there are only two options.

Pioneer Square is where the majority of the nightlife is to the South Side.

There are a few clubs near the Space Needle also.

Keep me posted so I can be there.

Okay, I'm going to throw out a date just to keep the thread flowing:

April 7-9.

What about a cocktail hour somewhere on Friday evening, the 7th, well after banking hours for those who have other plans for the weekend, and then maybe an early Saturday evening (5:30-ish?) gathering at Wild Ginger for satay and small-plates (before it gets insanely packed and loud)? Then those who want to take off to enjoy the night life may do with ample time for each activity. Maybe even find a brunch spot on Sunday for those who are still hanging around and don't have to drive or fly home til early afternoon. That way everyone who wants to come will have several chances to meet up with others.

Discuss. :)

Yikes...I'm just getting back to this!

I like the plan very much, E. My only thought is we might have a chance at better weather and easier travel a couple of weeks later, like April 21-23 or the 28-30. Spring Break is the 8th-16th for most schools, so I'm wondering if travel and prices will be worse that first weekend. Of course I defer to you on travel matters, E. :D

Anyone else have preferences or thoughts on the plans or dates? The choices for the dates are April:
7-9
21-23
28-30

I think that either the 21-23 or 28-30 would be better than anytime earlier in the month. Any kind of spring break hullaballoo is guaranteed to be over by then, and I think it would be much easier to work things out, NOT having to worry about it. So I guess, the last weekend of the month sounds best to me.
What seems to be working out best for everyone else involved?

Alright, Litsters, we've decided on a weekend in April. The plan so far:
~Meet for dinner at Wild Ginger downtown Seattle Saturday evening
~As a group, or in smaller groups, we'll check out the nightlife downtown
~Sunday, we're considering brunch or lunch for those who want to come.

We're keeping the date private. For convenience, I've set up an email account to facilitate contact. You must e-mail me with your Lit name in the body of the message at SeattleLit@gmail.com to get the date and other details.

We're also planning a webpage with all of the info, and a very travel-savvy member has volunteered to help people find deals on hotel rooms and other travel. If you're going to attend and would like some help with travel or have specific questions, email us (please try to put a specific subject, like 'Need Carpool' or 'Volunteering for Research,' on it to make our lives easier :) ).

IMPORTANT: For everyone's safety and privacy, please do not share or post the date, times, or other specifics. If you get a PM requesting this info, please refer them to SeattleLit@gmail.com, and I'll take care of it.

If you have suggestions, please feel free to post or email them. Likewise if you'd like to help in some way.

Thanks, and I'll look forward to your email! :rose:
