McCain announces opposition to Republican health bill, likely dooming it

WASHINGTON — Senator John McCain of Arizona announced on Friday that he would oppose the latest proposal to repeal the Affordable Care Act, leaving Republican leaders with little hope of succeeding in their last-ditch attempt to dismantle the health law.

Mr. McCain, who killed the previous repeal effort with his dramatic “no” vote in July, released a statement saying that he could not “in good conscience” support the latest proposal, by Senators Bill Cassidy of Louisiana and Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, who is Mr. McCain’s closest friend in the Senate.

“I cannot in good conscience vote for the Graham-Cassidy proposal,” Mr. McCain said. “I believe we could do better working together, Republicans and Democrats, and have not yet really tried. Nor could I support it without knowing how much it will cost, how it will affect insurance premiums, and how many people will be helped or hurt by it.”

With two other Republican senators likely to vote no, Mr. McCain’s opposition to the bill could be fatal, as Senate Republicans could afford to lose no more members.

Get off of that tit

The concept sounds fair and wonderful. The reality is a nightmare. The more you expect government to be the solution to YOUR problems in life the more dependent on government you will become. If the record showed that humans that govern always want what is best for their little subjects it might work. The lesson of history is that power corrupts. The more power you give them the more corrupt they will become. Stop sucking on the tit of big government and figure out how to take care of yourself. And that would not be so hard if the government was not on your back.

Look what's happening in Hong Kong. When their Communist masters decided to curtail their civil rights, the whole god damn city came out and said screw you. They're saying screw you to the government in Puerto Rico as well. You try and take away our free market, freedom of choice in America, you aren't going to believe what happens next.

We have a National Health Service. No-one has taken away the free market or my freedom of choice.

Oh, they have taken away one thing, the chances of me going bankrupt due to medical expenses.

The overall cost of health insurance is financially draining for most Americans. It's time for single-payer.

I'm sorry, but inequity isn't justification for elimination of liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

Except for those extra taxes you pay.

Wamp wamp waaaaaaaaah.....Sean fails again.

Every American deserves access to affordable, quality healthcare. Medicare for All is the only healthcare program that will benefit ALL Americans.

Except for the bunch of Americans that it fucks for most of their money.

Know why none of these "progressive" states have started their own public option HC systems and taxed accordingly?

Because they don't want HC, they want a suicide pact with all the other states.

If Mr. Trump really wanted to "Make America Great Again," he needs to acknowledge that a healthy America is a prosperous & productive America.

No, he'll tell CA and NY to fucking DO IT....triple hot dog dare them to put their money where their mouths are.

If no ID needed HC for anyone who shows up and asks for it is half as good as the left claims then the other states will follow suit voluntarily.

Promotion of the single payer idea is very dangerous to Democrat political ambitions. Why? Because tens of millions of Americans have health care through hard won negotiation with employers.

In the context of an election Single payer will be demonised by the Republicans as taking away workers health care rights. It does not matter whether that is true or not - but it will be enough to swing middle class votes in Pennsylavania, Ohio, Wisconsin etc solidly behind the status quo. And that means Trump.

Dems need to cool this issue down and just make motherhood statements. Detailed reform scares voters.

Trumpcare will never make it to Trump's desk. Tax reform will never make it to Trump's desk.

Ryan and McConnell have absolutely no interest in governing.

The Dems take back the Senate in 2018 & take back the White House in 2020.

The only wild card is the House.

You are horrible at predicting the future. The tax reform passed. The Dems lost seats in the Senate, too. And right now, the Democrats are looking like a bunch of idiots going into 2020.
Get with the program.

I recall posting the stats before - but, more than half the country is already on a single-payer program. The VA is an order of magnitude better than the private insurance I had for 20 years.

Private insurance is overly expensive and puts our industry at a competitive disadvantage in the global market. If bootstrappy people are so concerned about hand-outs; pay for your own insurance and/or medical bills.
