Justice League: The New Wave (OOC - Interest Check)

As the trio of Ketch, Hawke, and Roth have arrived at one of two major loci of power for Kobra in Keystone-Central, it may become germane to discuss "boss fights."

Thus far, it's been cool for you to write your side of the fight as well as your enemies'. And you've been doing brilliantly at that-- appropriately gauging the challenge level your enemies present to the characters you're playing. The Ajagar are meant to be scary strong but not unstoppable. You've nailed it.

The Blackadder were meant to be scary bladed death en masse, but you've appropriately played The Inverse Ninja Law and played merry hob all over them.

The Bestowed are scarier still, but fewer, and you guys have done great with that too, some very inventive stuff.

You're totally showing you've earned your stripes with this.

But in a boss fight, things will get a little more challenging. I will be taking direct control of "boss characters," and we'll play fights with them the way we would in player-versus-player scenarios. Which is to say:

Character 1 makes a move against (Mini-)Boss A, describing their intended result without actually depicting it connecting-- your post does not assume it connects.

Then (Mini-)Boss A posts, depicting whether the hit connects, or if they dodge or block in some way-- and may then post a counter-attack of some kind, which will also not be assumed to connect...

...until Character 1 comes back with their reply, describing their efforts, successful or unsuccessful, to defeat that attack and respond in kind.

Just as you would not assume the reactions or responses or the like of a fellow player's character, at least I hope you wouldn't, don't assume those for a boss-fight enemy. And neither will I assume those of your heroes.

There's a lot of "honor system" in this, because I'm sure for many of you the temptation will be strong to "god mode" and declare that all attacks miss you or are useless. But the trust in you will be strong to accurately and precisely represent your character's abilities and capabilities-- and to create a sense of drama and struggle. If your character just shrugs off everything every enemy throws at them, there's no sense of danger, no sense of triumph when you win, no chance for soulful reflection afterwards (we won but at what cost?).

Similarly, I pledge from the bottom of my silicon heart that I will keep a healthy mindfulness of your characters' abilities with regards to whether you hit the boss fight enemies and how easily you defeat them.

Shiny?

So, for the record, the high-powered Bestowed found outside the stadium count as mini-boss characters. So that's a boss-fight, I'll be playing those Bestowed in whatever fights involve them.

And the threat that you guys will face as a team (hopefully) at the river between the cities counts as the main boss fight, so I'll be manning the trenches there.

Is that okay with everyone?

Crap. Sorry Boss (LOL)

I am going to have to go back an edit my post.

I had started writing it and assumed the bestowed were just the same, then once posted found out about the extra powers.

Actually it may be able to stand as written as I never do say they die only that they fall down into the street, so you may be able to work with that. If you are okay with them dying, leave as is. If you wish them to survive maybe that energy barrier you talked about could have saved them and as it was a temple shot just a case of temporary knockout.

It can stand as is if it takes place before this post. Connor's Zen Archery might be sufficient to get a shot in through the Bestowed's space-warp ability (which made Agents Chase and Helligan miss a few shots in New York). But if you reply again, noting the stadium approach and the fact that the Bestowed now seem to be copying Raven's powers... and that the deep-shit-o-meter may have topped out at eleven...

So Mr Hawke is one with the Universe but even he realizes that's not going to be enough to take on the likes of fully charged Bestowed.

Being able to out-shoot a space-curve is one thing, but a flock of Ravens?

Not unbeatable, but... I suggest that it would be tactically advantageous to beat feet and come back with more help, if such is to be found.

How deep is this river? Just want to know how big a fish can fit underneath the dome and the riverbed.

Also been thinking, if the dome is thus heavy, should the weight not also start to impact the banks of the river? Slowly blocking it up and so cause another problem to deal with?

In the real world, The Missouri River is a major waterway, the longest river in North America. While I believe its actual real-world course is somewhat different than the one in the pre-Flashpoint mainline DCU and on this Earth-1 in particular, I see no reason to suggest that Mighty Mo is any less formidable here.

While that insight about the riverbanks is ingenious, it is apparently not cause for concern. The flow of the river, as GRID has verified, is unimpeded. As GRID would have crossed the river to the south of the dome, and the river flows north to south, it is apparently entering the dome to the north and exiting to the south without hindrance.

Just so you don't have to right 0retty much the same thing, of Static tried to get closers on foot what would happen? Similar distortions?

Being airborne would put you under the distortion effect, but keep in mind that the electrical concentration would only get stronger the closer you get to the center.

Oh, man, that little curriculum vitae is seriously going to throw Rose for a loop.

One of these days she's going to start remembering M'gann when she's awake, but it is not this day.

Drama. So much god-damn motherfuckin drama dropped into my lap this past week. I'm the mother hen/negotiator/dependable/good-with-kids person out of my group of friends. What I thought was going to be time to breathe and write turned into something else.

Sorry for the absence. I'll be reading and doing my damndest to catch up and post.
