Language Nazis Unite!

OK, I wouldn't call myself a language nazi, but if I read one more story where the person has an 'organism', I'm going to scream. And not from an orgasm!

I once heard a youth speaker call the Church a "living orgasm" in front of a group of senior highs.

Well, you shouldn't be reading those nasty stories anyway.

I mentioned this in another thread but it works in here, too. My boss is confused, big time. Not only does he think the Mississippi River flows uphill, but he calls those little ketchup and mustard packets condominiums. No, it wasn't a mistake. He's called them that more than a few times.

why do some writers here on lit feel the need to abbreviate through as thru!?. It completely ruins a story for me, I swear.

I just finished reading this entire thread.

I feel smart now.

Just sayin'

Oh, I should. I've been reading this really nasty story. It's called 'My new boss'. Have you heard of it? :p

Etcetera...

I hate when people don't abbreviate this right.

I see ect. a LOT and it annoys the hell out of me. The word is etcetera. The abbreviation is etc.

Yours amounts to strings of dental floss, but no one is bitching.

checkin' out our new uniforms.. I've seen more cotton in a bottle of aspirin...

edited to add a peeve....

Multiple exclamation points. You really only need one. The reason this peeve pops into mind is that I posted a response on another thread and used two exclamation points to get the post up to the mandatory 5 characters needed to post. Where's the :hurl: smiley when you need it?

Hey Arctic,

How's Mighty Little? Think he could get me a good discount on some Zircon-encrusted tweezers?

Hope these help.

Why thank you. D thanks you too. ;) I had a good one too, on my old computer, but the virus that eventually killed me appeared to have come from the free smiley's site, so I've not been back, even after D souped up the new one for me.
