Last movie you watched

Eastern Promises:

It wasn't necessarily the last movie I watched, but it was certainly the most recent I saw from end to end. I thought Viggo Mortensen was particularly good in this

The first Amityville horror was jumbled because the actual events were still fresh in peoples (the flim makers, in this case) minds, and they were trying to make... I don't know - something almost biographical - which as you said, didn't flow well...

but yes, the remake has a lot of fan-service with Ryan Renolds showing off the body he got for Blade III (well, I guess one good thing came out of that movie)

hahaha, I love Blade Trinity!

most recent movie

I just watched Nick and Nora's Infinite Playlist the other day. Decent, but not great.

In Bruges

Interesting, dark, quite funny, lots of fuck words - well, they are Irish hitmen...

I'm Just Not That Into This Piece-o-Shit Chick Flick

He's Just Not That Into You **½

I didn't care for this movie at all. In fact, I'd like to punch every character in this banal overlong ensemble piece--excepting the Afleck character--right in the chops. Rarely have I seen a film so densely and exclusively populated with unlikeable douche-bags. On the other hand, I'm not a pathologically marriage-obsessed SWF. So, perhaps something was lost in translation.

Just realized I've seen a lot of movies recently...

Just got in from Terminator Salvation:
This was a FUN movie. Christian Bale is understated in this movie, in that half the time it's easy to forget he's the headlining star. But when he's used it's to great effect. Even though the trailers let you know that Sam Worthington's "Marcus" is not human (as does the films opening moments) - he makes you forget he's a machine (sort of) - and even when he's half blown apart, he still makes you believe he has a soul (which is one of the points of this movie). Moon Bloodgood is just smoking hot and a fun leading lady (She steals that away from Bryce Howard by having infinitly more impact on the film).
McG does a fantastic job of making the world seem destroyed and yet doesn't give the humans completely up and that they have nothing. Conner's forces have A-10's, copters, well armed, magnetic mines, etc.
This is a great "becoming" tale, and worth the watch.
I counted at least 6 GOOD homages to previous Terminator movies, and that was without even counting:
(Jeep driving up to the gas station with "a storm is coming", Arnie, Come with me if you want to live, Motorbike/big Truck chase scene, I'll be back, "You could be mine" and motorbikes)

Angels and Demons
I walked out of this film satisfied. It was a good popcorn flick. The more I think on it, the less I liked it. It lacked all the thought and history of the book. It fed you the ideas and conclusions instead of making you come to the realization itself. It presented you with the villian instead of surprising you with him.
It was decent, but not fantastic.

Star Trek
HOLY CRAP!!! GO SEE THIS NOW. All I can say.
That and Simon Pegg and Karl Urban STEAL the show.

I just got back from watching the new Star Trek and it was fantastic. Is it just me though, or did that whole altering the future bit leave them wide open do whatever they want with the series from this point forward without having to take into account the events of all of the movies that came before/after it?

Yup

This is indeed a "Restart"/Alternate universe, so they are completely free to do what ever they want. I thought it was an interesting way to separate things for the die hard trekkies...

Though a thought did occur to me as I left the theatre: the "regular" universe no longer has a Spock (they'd assume he blew up with the sun) and, more importantly: They blew up the romulans!!!

It will be very interesting to see what they do next. Will they find a way to reverse what has been done? Will they find a way to go into the future and save the Romulan home world from destruction or will they simply go wild in this new reality that they have created an remake things as they go along.

I love the movies, but I'm far from being a trekkie so I'm sure that there are a hundred more subtle nuances that have been totally lost on me. I'll have to do some reading and see what the true experts think of this one.

Watchmen ****

This film far exceeded my admittedly low expectations. It was lightyears beyond other recent super hero (and sci-fi) movies. I'm sure that its cerebral and philosophical bent cost it tens of--if not a hundred--million dollars in box-office revenue... what with the American movie going public being composed primarily of slack-jawed drooling morons and all.

Now that is a scary thought!
I'm in no way a trekkie... but some of the more Rabbid fans can be disturbing

Did you ever see the movie that they made about the trekkies? It may have been called Trekkies, I can't recall at the moment. Some of that was a little....disturbing. Most of it was fairly amusing, but I'm a people watcher by nature so I'm always fascinated by the unusual things that people run around going.

Well, I found it considerably less than "fantastic," but I more or less concur about the alternate time-stream thing... and said as much a week ago in this very thread.

... and the fact that Orci and Kurtzman wisely set this gen-y bullshit in an alternate universe, rather than ret-conning the canonical Star Trek universe, e.g. James Tiberius Kirk not being born in Iowa ect...

Underworld: Rise of the Lycans

Not bad, if you enjoyed the first two this prequel kind of just fills in some gaps from the past. Rhona Mitra is almost a dead ringer for Kate Beckinsale and really puts into perspective why **SPOILER ALERT FOR THOSE WHO HAVEN'T SEEN THE FIRST TWO(highlight next section to read)** Vicktor keeps Selene alive and treats her as his daughter.

Night At The Museum

On television last night - watched it at work cos there was no one around and we have a big screen plasma wall screen, ha ha. Not bad at all - very funny in some places. Good family entertainment.

I just watched Fanboys ....for the 2nd time!!! Been waiting for the release for what feels like forever...and it was worth it.

If you love Star Wars.... I think you'll enjoy this comedy about a group of friends taking a road trip to Skywalker Ranch and steal the The Phantom Menace months before its release b/c one of them has cancer.

Seth Rogan, Kevin Smith, William Shatner, Ethan Suplee, Carrie Fisher & Billy D Williams all have cameos in the movie.

I have a link to the 2nd one if you wanna see that too

isn't that the one with Colin Farrell? I think it was nominated for Best Screenplay.

Yeah it is, and he's really good in it - better in this than he has been in a lot of films. It was nominated for Oscar, didn't win, but it won the BAFTA equivalent, deservedly in my opinion.

Yes please! Much appreciated...I owe you one now, lol!

18-Year-Old Virgin - not very good (surprise! surprise!) but at least the ending wasn't as much of a let down like the other movies I've seen lately (ie: Mudge Boy, Zack & Miri, The Babysitters)

Hunchback Of Notre Dame - my faveourite Disney film ever! Great story, great music, great villain!
