Long Distance Relationships

Hi all! Just had to let you know that I have had the most wonderful weekend EVER!! I will post more later...I am still recovering...need....sleep....

Hope you all are doing good. Hang in there Smiley, Hat, Lady Sam, Daerth, and Ebony! Whew...hope I didn't miss anyone!

Hugs Raina:rose:

A lot of us can relate to the need for "recovery" after the wonderful weekend you enjoyed!;)

Hugs to Ebony and Lady Sam too!:rose:

Ebony is right; we ALL get days (and nights) like that!! Feelings of all kinds seem to be part of this "love" business! Just remember you're not alone!:rose:

I had an LDR when I was in high school...it lasted nine months and I ended it very badly, it's one of the few things I would go back and change in my life.

I have been pretty wary about getting involved with someone far away but I've suddenly found myself chatting with someone 1200 miles from me and we really get along well. We are going to be getting together it a couple of weeks when he will be in my area for family reasons. I'm nervous on so many levels it's unreal, I usually get pretty nervous before a first date anyway but this time I am really scared! It doesn't help that I'm terminally shy, especially in a new situation with a new person. I'm afraid I'll end looking and sounding like a total geek and that will be the end of things.

I'm sorry I've rambled on....I haven't really had anywhere to vent these feelings. I'm just going to keep telling myself things will go wonderful...maybe I'll actually believe it a week or so :) Hearing people's success stories have helped. Best of luck to all of you in your relationships!

Ladyhawke,

Thank you for sharing! This is the PERFECT place to vent those feelings because ALL of us know in one way or another the feelings you are going through! Come back and share often :)

I'm so jealous that you have a meeting planned! Hope it is terrific :)

Smiley you have no idea just how much I understand. I was carjacked by a 6' crack addict one night when I was in my 20's. It happened in the parking of the building my condo was in. I spent the night at my parents because he took my purse with my housekeys and my license with my address.

I had the locks changed and moved back to my condo. My mom finally called me and had to tell me that though my father was calling every night to check on me he was a wreck. He was having chest pains every night and she was afraid he would have another heart attack.

I think a part of it is that women know that we have to deal with these things. Men only know that they need to protect us from these things, expecially when it is a woman they love. You feel so helpless and frustrated when you can't be there to protect us. It tears at your heart and soul. The funny thing is the most comforting thing to us is knowing that you don't blame us when these things happen.

Society and the courts have told us for years that if things like this have happened it's our fault. If we are harrassed or even raped we had to have done something to lead them on. The greatest gift in the world you can give her is to tell her you love her and that she did the right thing.

Hi Ladyhawke:rose:

This is a great place to tell your story, and thank you for doing so.

That first meeting is such a combination of emotions, naturally including nervousness and anxiety! Each LDR situation is different, but there are enough similarities that allow us to share our experiences.

As our first meeting was approaching, Oman and I agreed that the "worst" result of our meeting would be that we'd remain good friends! Any anxiousness I felt disappeared immediately after I looked into his eyes for the first time! His visit with me was the best week of my life, and has changed my life for the better.

It does seem unreal at times; however, as soon as you face each other, each of you will recognize the person who shared feelings and enjoyed each other online. He will not feel like a "new" person, and I think you'll sense comfortableness being with each other.

Please keep us informed as your countdown continues, and best wishes to both of you as you near this most exciting time!:rose:

She had called me from a pay phone during one of her layovers, which was great because I was worried. And we got to spend wonderful minutes talking. However, while we were on the phone...a unknown man came up to her and began trying to talk to her...and he wouldnt stop. I got to listen to the love of my life be harassed by an older man there at the bus station.
...
It hit me so hard...that pain. A toxic mix of fear, desperation, loneliness, and pure blood-boiling anger. The woman I love was far away, alone, and being targeted by men I could not see or defend against. It hurt...it hurt so bad.
...
Once I knew she was safe and sound in the company of her family, I relaxed. And then I spent some time talking with friends and family here near me. You know, I never realized the amount of crap women have to randomly deal with. I know there are millions of men that no one wants near them...and yet they always seem to find the right place and time to target some woman...while she is alone and feeling unsafe. This behavior sets off so many anger bells in my head.
...
Please take care...I pray for you all.

Hugs Smiley:rose:

It must have been horrible for you to hear this going on! That had to be one of the most helpless feelings you could experience. Just think, though, how wonderful it was for HER to have YOU in her life! We "women" are tough, but are even tougher when we have the love of a good man to back us up!

Try not to let this anger overwhelm you! I would try and focus on the LOVE of the situation! Just imagine if she didn't have your love, and you on the phone, and had to still deal with that situation! She's lucky to have someone so caring and loving in her life!

Hugs Hat!:rose:

Sorry to hear what you had to endure! Unfortunately, these things DO happen, and fortunately you weren't hurt.

Hang in there folks!:rose:

Thanks Jenny and sxychick for the encouragement. I have a feeling it's going to be the longest 17 days of my life but it will all be worth it.

Thank you

Thank you all for your kindness. It is wonderful to have a place like this to vent and talk things out. I really appreciate it.

Hat, I am so sorry sweetie. I can only imagine the fear and anger. You are a wonderful woman...and none of it was your fault. Please take care.

Raina, so very glad your weekend was fabulous. Get some good sleep.

Ladyhawke, this is my big hello. Nice to see you. Hope you are well.

Jenny, you rule. Tell Oman I said hi and that he should never let you go.

Lady_sam, daeth, and everyone else I know I will forget.....please take care....I hope you are all doing great. May the love continue.

Hope your wait goes quickly and smoothly, Ladyhawke! I had some of the best conversations with Oman in the weeks before we met; hope that happens for you two as well!:rose:

Thanks for the compliment, Smiley! Oman has assured me he has no intentions of letting me go, which matches exactly what I feel about him!:rose:

Ladyhawke, I agree with Jenny. Some of our best conversations have been just before our trips to see each other. Feeling the excitement and nervousness, just hoping that everything turns out great. Oh, and everyone's favorite....cleaning the house like a crazy person! :D

Jenny, tell Oman I said, "Good boy!" My love and I actually say the same thing to each other, "I don't ever want to let you go."

Take care you crazy cats.

LatinaBabe :rose:

Well I been in a relationship for awhile now with someone he lives in england and I live in new york and all I can say it is hard. Hard because you can't do what u want with them and u can't touch or feel each other or just hold one another when u are down or lonely...I try and make the best of it till the time for us to get together and finally do what we want to do with each other..

Good boy, indeed!

We certainly ARE crazy, Smiley! But in a very good way!!;)

Welcome, Latinababe!:rose:

Seems you also have a big time difference to deal with! (Oman is only 1 hour "less" than I am, which is bad enough sometimes!) Was hoping it would get easier once we actually met, but the longing is even stronger!

Best wishes, and I hope you're able to get together soon.:rose:

We're at under 90 days now and things are going wonderfully. I wish there wouldn't be so much red tape for us, because of the international difference, but we'll get through that. :)

Hello to everyone else here

Hello to everyone else here

Glad to hear things are going great. I can't say I know anything about the red tape involved in your planning...but I am sorry it's a hassle. Keep us up to date on your progress, love these countdowns. Take care...and here is a big hello!

Just travelling through....

Hi all,
many new faces and names here, still lots of countdowns... I wish all those blessed with the chore of crossing days off a calendar the very best in all you do. I have a countdown of a different sort at the moment... (and to think I thought LDR countdowns were bad) this is to the end of my job... not to worry, another will come along.. just something you get used to in the computer programming field. Finish one project, go to another. I have never had trouble getting a new contract, just notr many around this time.

I miss you all... Hat, I'll try to catch you for a chat soon, say hi to Marty for me.

Bye til I next pass through....

tc

Hi Top Cat:rose:

Sorry to hear of your latest countdown! Oman and I are now both searching; hopefully there really is something new somewhere out there for all of us! and SOON!!

Hugs Lady Sam! Hope that red tape stays untangled.:rose:

Well I finally got to talk to Marty today. He hasn't had time to talk to anyone lately. Three of the companies he services got viruses in their servers. He has been going nuts and of course not hearing from him at all I got silly. LOL Thankfully I talked to Oman and a friend in chat called Night Owl.

It's a lot tougher when your out of touch with your LDR. I can take the distance but when there isn't communication it's hard. We are hanging in though.

More about my weekend

Hi everyone...hope you are all doing well with your various countdowns!

I just thought I would tell you all a little more about the wonderful weekend that Toys and I had.

We had 4 amazing nights of not much sleep and lots of sex. :p

I had the most incredible time. I am so glad that we decided to meet in person. The weekend was...WOW, there are just not enough words to explain how great it was. I enjoyed every minute of our time together. We ate at some fabulous restaurants, and I just generally got spoiled rotten. (Thanks sweetie!) I am looking forward to another time when we can meet up again.

And...I just have to tell you all that I am graduating from college with my AAS degree on May 18th. I thought that I was going to have to take one more class this fall, but I found out today that I am finished! I am so thrilled. I am definitely taking a break before going back for more!!

Rah!

Wow, Raina! Congrats on a wonderful accomplishment!:rose:

So pleased you and Toys had such a wonderful time together! Incredible, isn't it? What about that first second you looked at each other? That's still one of the most magical moments in my life!

Oman was here 8 days, and we only managed two restaurants! We seemed much too busy for much outside socializing; in fact, I feel badly that he didn't see very much of NYC with his first visit here!:D

Wish our situations were more settled and we could afford another visit (in either direction) right now!!:rose:

Congrats Raina!!:rose: :rose:

I got my AA degree and now I am working toward the Bachelors. Good luck and don't take too much time off. It's harder to go back when you do.
