Good evening kind Sir

I happened across something different today. A new view on an orchid.

http://www.stephen.com/fragments/images/orchid.jpg

Why thank you for sharing Georgia....that is a Phalaenopsis orchid...coincidentally my favorite orchid.....the first orchid that bloomed for me was a phal......

Orchid facts.......some of them have evolved to attract insects for mating.....the insects try to mate with the flowers and pick up the pollen cap to be deposited at the next flower that he tries to mate with.....Okay insert "stupid male" comments here.......:p

Some of the Oncidiums look like bees...they get pollinated by being attacked by rival bee colonies.....

Another orchid uses the maze method......the smell draws the insect they try to drink nectar and get trapped....the only way out is by the pollen....which sticks to their back and they go to the next flower.....

Many orchids secrete sugar drawing ants that defend their food source

Some believe that the orchids are the highest evolved plant form from all the specialties that they encompass........think about it.....they have men propagating them...cherishing them...(insert vagina comments here........) pampering them, nurturing them.....Hmmmm I wonder.......

The orchids have a symbiotic relationship with fungus......their seed cannot germinate without the presence of certain fungi.....the fungus actually supplies nutrients to the orchid embryo until it grows big enough to sustain itself.....and then the orchid becomes host to the fungus that sustained it in it's infancy.......
Man has learned to bypass the fungus by sowing the seed in sterile nutrients in a sterile flask.......

Are we the next step in their evolutionary ladder?....."Feed me SSeymore!" I have some plants I have been taking care of for 18 years.. Don't worry I have not started feeding humans to them yet......there are a few humans I know who I would like too...:D

Vanilla comes from the seed pod of the orchid Vanilla planifolia

The word orchid comes from the greek word "orkhis" which means
Testicle.....in Greece and Turkey there grows a terrestrial orchid (orchis) that has two tubers that look like.......:) ....They actually make candy from the stuff I believe.

There are over 30,000 orchid species in the world.....this is not counting the manmade hybrids which probably out numbers them by far.

Strange that you would come across that orchid picture today as I was buried for hours in online orchid catalogues today.......where you spying on me?;)

Not spying on you at all but sometimes you can send out little SOS messages using just the power of your soul. Those you are connected to can choose to head that message or to ignore it, according to how in tune they are with themselves. I decided to listen and send you an orchid.

Simple really.

I am in Melbourne for the next few weeks, I'm going to Miami for 3 months for a field study. I'm 21 yrs old and I don't know how to Mambo ... don't know that I follow your taste but the least I can do is say hi!

Hello SkylineBlue,
Welcome to Melbourne! You will want to check out "The Starfish" nightclub on West Ave in Miami Beach when you are down there on a friday night......at least they used to have a live latin band and some of the best salsa mambo dancers around. Another great place in South Florida is North of Lauderdale in Coconut Creek...a Place called GoldCoast Ballroom off of Copans Rd...They have great salsa music on Sundays from.....4PM to 7PM ...once a month they have a live salsa band but I forget which sunday.........
All the mambo and salsa dancers go there from south Florida you will see some wonderful stuff on the floor.......

Of course if you would like a lesson in mambo or salsa dancing I would be glad to give you one or two here......really.....I love dancing and have not done much lately.....I like teaching people and I am a gentleman...I have the realization that a young lady of your age will not be interested in a guy my age......and if you have a boy friend or friends I will teach them too.:)

I would love to hear about it......just don't burn yourself out in South Beach.....:) If you do the South Beach thing....get there early as parking is a bitch(on the weekends), if you can afford it get a room, there are some affordable places just off of the main drag.

Here you go skylineblue.......and for anyone else going salsa dancing on a friday night in Miami Beach....

I am in no way affiliated with any of these links....they are just hot dance spots.....looking online I am wishing I was living in south Florida again......

Here is a link for some hot dance spots including Gold Coast Ballroom in Coconut Creek which hosted the World Championship Salsa Competition last year in November...........Enjoy! And anyone down there in South Florida get off your butts and go dancing!

Another orchid fact.....in Madagascar there is an orchid that has a 14inch spur......the only thing that can pollinate it is a moth with a fourteen inch tongue......Yikes!:)

Just a bump for the lonely guy........don't worry about me...really I am okay......<sniffle>......;)

The sound of crickets and cicadas, a muffled distant voice...calling.......Haaaallllloooooo!.........the sound of crickets and cicadas......a thud as he trips over a tree root in the dark.....(cursing and mumbling)....he gets up brushes himself off....."Haaallllooooo" Crickets and cicadas....and mosquitoes.....cursing...Slapping........Now if I was hanging out with a woman she would have remembered the deep woods Off.........."Haaalllllooooo!

Okay it is just a bump.:)

Bump! Haaallllllooooo...lo....lo....lo....lo....lo..........is there anybody out there....ere.....ere....ere....ere....ere.....
Don't you just love an echo......We don't get any echoes in florida much...too flat.:)

I do believe this is masterbation:p Not that there is anything wrong with that.......:) Bump! and grind!

Thanks for the info John Roberts!!! Currently, I'm spending some time with a friend in Gainesville but as I will be shortly returning and joined by several female friends, I think we'll make an effort to take a look at your suggested dance locations. And as for the locations in Miami - I'm pretty sure that I and some of my more adventurous classmates will make it a point to hit up some fun clubs. I'll definitely keep you posted!!
