So I feel like I'm explaining things to a 10 yr old...but here goes... Prosperity or being prosperous can be used with many things. Example: While you and your financially prosperous friends in California burn LA down, I will be here prospering from the food in my own garden and prospering from the love within.

We need something to measure the prosperity of societies, not individual lives.

Other than per capita GDP, the only measure of prosperity is a low poverty rate. (Not a low crime rate.)
