Love isn't perfect...

There's no such thing as unconditional love. If you search for it, you're made to look and feel like a fool.

There is unconditional love, Aurora and it's called love of self, first of all. Without it, you can not hope to figure out the unconditional in love for others. ;) As for the original post, Lucky? We come into life with love and we hope to go out with the same. What is it? It is many things to many different individuals. Love has taught me to be humble and selfless, most of all. :)

Ah. There's my problem.

I was taught very, very carefully that I wasn't a lovable person. A great deal of time and effort was spent by many people to drive that lesson home.

And I had no positive lessons to balance it off.

Working on fixing that, but it will be a while yet.

Can I smack you around a bit? I love physical confrontations.

Let's practice some self-defense moves.

The family, to a young child, is the very first example of how love works. If it is lacking or damaging, that is the lesson which that child will carry around for the rest of his/her life. It is indelibly imprinted on the mind, heart, and soul.

love taught me to love me first because...how can i truly love someone else unless i understand and accept me for who i am?

When you truly love someone you say "I love you. Not the person you could become". That's the key to love, and and also to happiness.

I'm in. :D

Not indelibly, Aurora. But it is hard to overcome.

Overcoming this problem is one of the main reasons I hang on Lit. I don't have to hide who I am here. People accept me and don't insist on trying to change me into what they want.

And if I make a mistake and do something harmful or foolish, they'll call me on it without thinking any less of me.

And posting my stories and getting the feedback I do on them has done absolute wonders for my self-esteem.

I'm better than I've been in many years, and a great deal of that is due to the wonderful people here.

Also, not "I love the person I want you to be, or think you should be...."

Yeah. But in your case, I do sometimes wish you were straight.

I disagree wholly. Family does not equal you as a person, nor does any bad experience.

It's always possible to lie about anything.

Actually, one of the problems is loving someone just the way they are, and then that person goes and changes. Then you're talking about a real roller coaster.

I don't save my love or keep it locked up for one special person I might never meet. I give it freely, to friends, family and lovers. If they don't treat it properly I don't worry because I always have more. It never runs out.

Because of love, I will never be bitter or alone. I've seen that fate, what happens to people who can't give their love. I won't let it happen to me.

For the ones I love, I'll do absolutely anything. I will always give my absolute best for love.

Love is the only thing that really matters in this world.

Yes. Exactly.

Love is the force that gives meaning to my life, and I have an unquestioning faith in its power.

For me, it doesn't so much give meaning, as allows me, when I'm under its spell, a respite in my search for life's meaning.

People do not change much?

If you expect a person not to change, you'll always be disappointed.

Let me reiterate ... people do not change much.

Yes they do, Charley.

My husband and I are very different than when we were first married.

We think we've improved - knowledge, patience, organization, sense of humor.

Because you feel you have not is no reason to tar the rest of the world with the same brush, yes?

As you should very well know ... people do NOT change easily ... they just eventually realise what has always been there.

Edit to add: an experience. ;)

Well, I think Charley is right. People do not change much. Sure you can grow and improve and some even go the other way, but the essence of who you are, your core personality doesnt really change. You are who you are even if it takes your whole life to figure out who that is.
