did you happen to get the name of the operator who told you it was the modem? at least then you'll know exactly whose arse to jam the new one up. Although chances are it was someone in india or somewhere like that. my own experiences with telstra big pond have been similar-they r happy to take your money but not so happy to help if theres any problems. even when its running well it seems slow. no matter-contract's up soon!

Oh you poor thing you understand my frustration with Telstra and no telephone/internet over Easter then. Take the modem back and get your money back and trash Telstra as much as possible to other people.

Hope this helps:kiss:

you cant rerally blame the people who work there they are just stuck in a system that means everything is rush rush pass the problem on. besides the modem cost to much to just jam up someones arse

good point-better use the old modem! I know they have to work in a substandard system but thats no excuse for the individual to give sloppy service and wrong info-if they dont know admit it and try to find someone who does. failing that suggest maybe the modems a problem rather than just say it is-if it was a suggestion you'd know to test it on a friends computer or at a computer shop before you went to the expense. maybe i'm too fussy-who knows?
since i'm new here i guess i shouldn't be so opinionated first up so i'll start again-hi all i'm wombat-how is everyone?

Nostress, try ozemail, now an inet compzny etc, i have a 512/512 connectiond , costs about $65 pm
dodo is also offering ASDL at very cheap rates, not sure of the country presence, ( if memory serves me, your down in gippsland i think)
Optus is via cable

All of them require you to purchase an ASDL modem (cable box in optus case), (grin yep another modem, take the other one back and get a refund)

If your timings good, they will throw in an ASDL modem for nothing, well not really nothing you will prob be contracted.

Re Primus, AAPT dont know enough, however they are solid companies

One thing to note, If you have a telstra land line, you will end up on telstras books as a client of a wholesale provider, and if you have a landline problem, the telstra customer service people send you to their wholesale division,, stand your ground, if that happens,,and state that the landline is a TELSTRA landline and the wholesaler they are refering to is for your ASDL..and believe it or not, the wholesale division get ticked off at their retail div, when you are redirected to them for a landline problem ,, bit of a laugh really

Thanks Blue

The two modems I have now are both ADSL the new one has 4 ports which would be handy for my sons Playstation 2 which he can use on line, I will check out the ozemail pretty sure they run a service down here in Gippsland.
and thanks for the info on how to handle Telstra if I run into a land line problem

Work is something I have been doing way to much of lately but it should slow down soon

photos could be interesting, hopefully you will let us seem some one day

Nostress, i actually use a netspace 512/64 adsl connection for my service-no major complaints in the nearly 2 years i've been with them-when my contracts up i'll most likely stay with them although i'll change my plan. i think in the 2 years theres been 3 times i've had no access and for those times it's down or if you want to access the net from somewhere other than home my plan includes a dial up connection which has been useful on occasion. I have 3 computers hooked up to my modem and that doesen't seem to affect the speed much at all. They will let you use your existing modem (not the one inserted in the telstra person tho)but they only provide support for the modem they supply which for me was a netcomm nb1300. my wife has a bigpond 256 connection for her business and trust me theres no comparing the 2!

From another Newbie

Hey, its great to find some representation from Melbourne

I have been a victim of telstra too, including being involved in a legal class action against them for illegal financial practices.

I have used iinet adsl in the past and found their service to be really good
